First thing I noticed about the Beta...a little contribution
NovaCameron replied to quantum_dragon's topic in Testing
We're working on balancing the ship speeds. The ship speeds are way too slow imo. I have them at 2.5 normal and it's ok, I might be tempted to make it faster once I test out my planets. We can mess with all the ships speeds with the gameconstance but getting all the ships balanced and cannon TO EACHOTHER is the issue here. That we need to mess with each ship file. -
It doesn't work with Diplomacy atm. and the newest patch for entrenchment is 1.051 which it works for. Just put it in the 1.051 mods folder.

Not in this mod. It slows things down a bit. The Cap ships are serious firepower. I've conquered a bunch of planets with carracks and a few dreadnaughts. It's not too hard. And once I get a cap ship it's too easy. Nothing should be free anyway. Unless you want me to boost the neutral fleets, which I am tempted to do, I think there should be no free cap ship.

That would work. Plus planets are going to be much tougher so you you won't be able to break through and then take out a sector easily (to recharge). Jump angle at 60 seems fine. SW you just need to point your ship in the right direction and be out of the grav well to jump. Like 15000 will be the weakest planet. Max: 120000. ^^ I want planets to be tough to take out. and I think that would do it. lol -

lol don't worry. I have the jump angles at 60 right now and they work fine. I might bump it up to 90 but it seems that the damn ships take the shortest route. add in the fact that the wells are so big a fleet can sneak past a planet.... plus the fact I'm going to push the build radius down a lot... We might need a jump inhibitor or interdiction satellite to keep fleets from sneaking past EVERY planet. Wouldn't be too much fun if you can be attacked anywhere at anytime. Actually... that's not bad idea. Since I'm pushing the build radius down you would have to engage the planet to get rid of the interdiction satellite. And with less space to defend there would be more turrets for more fireworks. This wouldn't completely stop fleets from sneaking past, but it would make it painfully slow. Oh, no nav points. That would render my map setups, choke points, and planet setups, useless. It SUPPOSED to take a long time to get from one side of the galaxy to the other. Hyperspace speed needs to be boosted. Like 3-5x faster. -

We'll use G as Kph, like I said. Even though those very fast speeds would be good for cruising, It doesn't fit well into the game. So G will be Kph just to give the ships a bit more accuracy, but not at the expense of gameplay. I'll expand the list soon. Plus I really don't have the room for 500Km grav wells. It would look insane... (I could technically do it. the game dose everything in meters, but a planet with a 6000000m radius would be... too big. lol though I'll test it out....) G = Kph for this game. -

I have the vacuum speeds in G form which for gaming purposes we'll state as being the acceleration but use it as the max speed, which it is..., in kph form, which we'll use in game. This will be the 'slow' speed in the game. Unless you can make the hyperspace travel much faster. (It really does need it...) I also have the hyperdrive ratings for the ships. (Lower class hyperdrive is better.) Gallofree transport: 900G/Class 4 Nebulon-B frigate: 1200G/Class2 B-Wing: 2390G Corellian Corvette: 2100G/Class 2 MC80: 1550G/Class 1 Y-Wing: 2700G X-Wing: 3700G Z-95: 2780G K-Wing: 2700G A-Wing: 5100G Yorik-Et (Coralskipper): 3700G Lucrehulk: 300G Xi Char Droid Fighter: 3900G Eclipse: 940G E-Wing: 4200G Executor: 1230G Nantex Geonosian fighter: 4500G Enforcer/Immobilizer Cruiser: 1210G K-wing: 2700G Acclamator Cruiser: 3500G Consular Cruiser: 2040G Imperitor Star Destroyer: 2,300G Tie Bomber: 2380G Tie Fighter: 4100G Tie Interceptor: 4240G Miid Ro'ik: 2340G Keep in mind the speeds maybe need to be adjusted by ship class. But since we're using these as top speeds acceleration could be done by ship class. -

Nice, I can give you the exact speeds for the ships if you want. Then you could use the base speeds to modify the ones that don't have them. Is there any way to seperate the jump speeds with normal speed? -
Ok, almost there! kinda... not really. Meshes: 95% need a few more planet sizes. And tweaking. Textures: 99%! yay! one or two need tweaking but otherwise awesome. Brushes: 20% long way off on this one but it should be fast. Strings: 50% need to add in different planet sizes. Entities: 5% need different planet sizes... and they need to have info put into them. GalaxyInfo: 20% Dunno. All the Planet-size ones are in. Need more. I have a question: What size should the planets be? I have them at 2.5 the original size. Should they be even bigger? 5X? I don't want to go larger than that. Might break it (the game). Since I scaled the planets accuretly. The Gas Giant is HUGE but it's at half it's (maximum) size right now. (might put in the maximum size for fun.) And you have to go around the planets... larger they are, the larger the grav well. I'm also doing the stars, at a different ratio of course. I'm worried about scaling those.
-
Welcome. I hope you can test out my planets soon. Help me balance them a bit. Oh and the maps. Lots and lots of maps..... Though I do agree the ALL ships need balancing... Not sure about the rest, haven't played it enough. Ah well it's beta time!
-
You mean wipe out the planet? or just the orbiting structures? You'll find my planets to be alot tougher, well they will be scaled but they will have alot more HP.I agree that the planets are weak and the Golans need some... upgrades. But we need to reconfigure the Tech tree anyway, and I hope my planets will solve the 'wipe-out planet and run' raid. (Which doesn't make sense in Star Wars anyway since taking a planet was a big deal not a punitive raid.)
-
Thought so... was just wondering....
-
Is there a way to imput new Star War-esque music with out breaking copyright laws? Like what could we use and where could we get it from.
-
Yup. I know their exact location down to one hundreth of a grid, well for most, there are too many to put ALL 5000 in. I will make a multi-star map for kicks. I have complete system details for 40 systems. Should be plenty. Star Wars Atlas is awesome.
-
Not really. Starbases are not balanced for this game. It's easier to rework a starbase from scratch then to modify it. Besides in SW there were no 'starbases'. It is a waste of resources. The biggest thing in stationary defences was the Golan 3. Smaller is actually better. Less target to hit, better power ratios, better sheild coverage and strength. There are orbital factories, refineries, mining operations that are absolutly huge. But these are open to space, thus easilly damaged. Starbases... well they don't make sense... in the way Sins' work for SOGE.
-
pha, just use the buy/sell buttons if you're in a small game. They let you trade resources. So you can build up your fleet quickly by buying the resources your low on. or selling the ones you have extra of. But getting more planets is always the best route to get more stuff.
-
build a small fleet, 8 or so heavy frigates and a few cruisers. Use these to kill neutrals and take planets early. Then build up heavy cruisers and capitals to kill enemy fleets. Ignore using frigates for the most part, though they are great fodder against small enemy fleets or neutrals. Use capitals and heavy cruisers for your main fleets, with cruiser-frigate fleets for fodder, scouting, neutrals, mine clearing, ect. Turrets are your friend! Golans are awesome a few of them with a mix of ion and turbolaser turrets can hold a enemy fleet till help arrives or even drive them off. Mines are effective also, though i find them just annoying. Your call. Have fun!

RL stuff. Vacation kinda, college i'm guessing.
-
Ya, but poke us once in awhile. I know I need it. But we'll get it done.
-
probibly once eville gets back and the NR an Vong are complete.
-
Oh and I hope to ax some brushes. since there can be only 1000 textures (hard coded limits, brushes included) and planets as they are take up 271. But I'm not sure how many of those are duplicates... not many I bet. So I think Eville will be happy if I push that down. Then he can add more ships and even new races. Note: Ocean and Acid done. They were simple ones. lol Now to do Brushes...
-
Also, ion weapons should have 33% less range than blaster/laserconnons.
-
Ok fix added to mantis boards. Forgot about that... So now you can update the mod there.
-
ya, i'm going to fix some of that with my planets. I'm going to make the grav wells much bigger and also make it possible to jump up to 45 degrees on either side of the jump point. This should make scouting much easier as well as more star warsey. I also have a problem with the ion cannons, they should kill the sheild before incapacitating the ship. Their range should be about half the range of a turbolaser. The executor should also have the SAME exact range as a SD, they have the same exact weapons, the SDN just has more of them. There are a few more things but i'll look them up first.

i know. I think it's eville's creation to give the empire a missile ship. All the neat dark empire ships don't really have canon sources. Since it really happened fast in the sw galaxy. A few months the poof, done. Who knows how many ships existed and then destroyed in imperial infighting. Much of this wasn't talked about or recorded in canon sources. I think we can use some liberty in creating ships for the post endor galaxy.
