Here's my opinion(pretty technological) on this: Starfighters have inertial compensators, as they call them, to slow the G-Forces from knocking out a pilot(the reason Wedge and the others never wore an oxygen mask). This compensator made an eliptical field around the fighter that could be enlarged or contracted as the pilot wishes(this was used to combat the Yuuzhan Vong). Because they weekened the forces acting on the ship, fighters could pass through most shields, host a bombing run and incinerate the shield projector. Capital ships don't have these compensators due to how slow they move. Very few ships move starfighters speeds, so few have the Gs of the smaller ships. So I think, that starfighters are very effective against ground targets. Read the X-Wing series by Stackpole, good books

I don't know fully, but I know new cards would stop it from working. New cards, models and stuff, but I'm not so sure about pictures. If you had new pictures for like Luke or some missions or something, would that work?

I have a strategy I wanted to post. It usually only works on single player since people learn, but computers don't. First, conduct espionage on as many enemy planets as you can. Once you find a planet with a lot of characters, troopers or special forces you don't want them to have, blockade the planet. Sabotage, abduct/assasinate or utterly bombard your targets untill your satisfied. If you can get a team down doing 'Incite uprising'. Once all of your targets are taken down or captured, and the enemy world is beginning to turn against your enemy, withdraw. Keep active espionage on the planet and watch for people to return. Since you brought down the support for your enemy, someone will come for diplomacy or 'Subdue Uprising' if you pulled it to far. Blockade, kill and capture. Repeat as often as you can before the enemy stops sending people to replace. With Easy level CPs, this doesn't happen untill they have few more characters. As soon as the plan stops working, take the planet and choose a new target.

Lol. I have a much better explanation(excuse) than my dog. I bought my game second hand. I do play on a burned cd...but my original is still kicking around(probably in my junk drawer on my comp desk)
-
Heres another question. In the encyclopedia definition of a few imp fighters, It mentions life-support. That doesn't make a difference in the game, does it?
-
I didn't mean foiled assasinations, I meant accidental deaths during abduction missions against me. My characters were dropping dead everywhere, but at least my fleets did really well. They just were never where I needed them, so I got a lot of people killed. Hooray !!!
-
I disagree with the replacement of Dark Troopers. Get rid of the Fleet Regiments on both sides.
-
You forgot the most important way to get a traitor: character deaths. The more of your characters who have been killed, the more likely they are to betray you. I had whole teams of Minor characters assasinated and foiled, as well as killed in assaults and fleet battles, then 4 traitors all at once- Grammel, Screed, Jerjerrod, and one other. I never found where the last was Thrawn or Bevel Lemelisk. You could say that it was caused by the lost assaults, but I'm convinced it was the dead characters as they were mostly killed in different ways.
-
I'm not a part of their team, but I can make guesses. Thrawn(of course) Palleaon A few extra Moffs i.e. Disra, Dorja(Yeah, he was originally in the game. I'm sure he'll be back.) A few more I don't know. Republic- Luke(of course) Leia I think Lando, I have no idea about him(I'm hoping) Solo Wedge, hopefully with a revamped Leadership rating(He becomes General after all) Mara Jade Corran Horn Ackbar They showed some Noghri in the screenshots. I can't remember the name. There was another one that became a good friend of Leia's in NJO, and died the second book. Unfortunatly I can't remember his name either. (Damn aliens) Remember, I'm just guessing. But I haven't read many EU books. Wishfull thinking probably put Wedge and Lando in there. Lando not so much, but Wedge is an important character in ALL the Stackpole books and a couple Zahn books(not as many). I'm sure that the point you guys are at, probably all the characters are decided, but if you can, LEAVE WEDGE IN IT!!! There goes my big, bold all caps, unwanted, and overall annoying opinionated outburst for today.[/b]

Strategy Discussion : Protecting Mining Planets
Nero replied to Jonathan's question in Questions from Newbies
Good times, actually they weren't, but yeah. That is the number one reason I use the save restart. When I know I'm about to do something stupid, but I'll try it anyways. (Definition of Insanity- Trying the same thing many times expecting different results) -
Research Over Time or Research with Characters?
Nero replied to Jacen_Fel's question in Questions from Newbies
Researchers do help, and a lot. I've done a little revision in the last hour, I think I may know how the research works. This is just a guess though. Using the RebEd, I found that all the researchers but Bevel Lemelisk have a value of 40 on their assigned R&D type. Bevel has 50 on all three. I think this means it adds that much percentage to the research speed. It would make sense, and the values seem right, but that goes against all the things i've said above. I think that this new theory is right though, although I can't really prove it. -
That would, um be bad y'know. We don't want to hear about it. I bought mine for 10 bucks at an EB Games nearby. I was lucky.

True. Palpatine is best used on the world. I don't take him off for anything.

Strategy Discussion : Protecting Mining Planets
Nero replied to Jonathan's question in Questions from Newbies
Good, sort of. Get your diplomats claiming more worlds, but NEVER scrap a shipyard. First, as long as you have Maintenance to spend, there are ships to be built. Outfit other worlds with mines to get more maintenance, but NEVER scrap a shipyard. I've been knocked on my back in one simple stroke and a lack of foresight by myself through that. Scraping your best shipyard is stupid. Keep it. You will always take losses, losses always need to be replaced. Scrapping shipyards is stupid, don't do it. -
Lol. That's what would happen alright. That's when you would...well there isn't much you can do but concede the loss. Try again, put strain on the shipyards, take them out as quickly as you can. Keep strain on the fleets. Don't fight to win, fight to take a big chunk out of them. If all else fails play the Empire. It's a lot harder for a Rebel planet to get as solidly defended as Coruscant can be.
-
I agree, Death Star sabotage is there for a reason, use it. Coruscant can become insanely defensable if you do that, but even still, Death Stars can become the biggest turning point in a game. A single Death Star sabotage can kill several of your characters if stationed on the battlestation which makes the traitor list roll up. Not fun. When Thrawn starts having foiled research missions in a game you thought was doing so well, you almost want to cry.

Death Star? No. The only thing I can see as defense is Fighters or a nearby fleet that can react fast. Really it's all you can do. Place LNR series II and you might take a few ships with you -
Research Over Time or Research with Characters?
Nero replied to Jacen_Fel's question in Questions from Newbies
I didn't mean that even when it fails it increases. What I meant was that even though a few fails will happen, a research is boosted for each succesfull mission. When several missions are in progress, more will succeed, but will fail more often than if grouped. -
Theres another thread dedicated to that in this Forum "Researc over Time or Research with Characters" I think it's called. Check that. But back to what Ikeda said. I listened to Tarkin, better than you. He said: Fear will keep the local systems in line, fear of this battlestation. In line! Not in order. I have to be right sometimes..lol
-
Yes, espionage missions do reveal captured characters. If you manage to win the battle, but lose the officers you dont have to worry as much, because you know the officers are on the planet you are blockading, and will stay untill you give up your blockade. From there, don't assault. If you do your characters flee to other enemy worlds. Rescue them then assault.
-
Lol, that doesn't surprise me. Palleaon is a good leader I guess, but when he decided to surrender to the NR, I lost all the good I had seen in his character. Oh well. Well again, if there is anything I can help with, just let me know. I'd probably have to be taught what i'm doing first though...
-
Just reading the name Corran Horn makes me happy. You can take out most of the people, but don't take out Wedge. Gavin Darklighter would be good too, but I don't think that'll happen. Sorry. I've been mad ever since I found out that I can't recreate the Battle of Coruscant for lack of characters. The number one character I want out is Palleaon...but anyways. I dont think there is anyway I can help, but it wouldn't hurt to try. If there is anything you guys need, ask and I'll see if I can do it. E-mail is- Nero823@hotmail.com

Research Over Time or Research with Characters?
Nero replied to Jacen_Fel's question in Questions from Newbies
The difference between the groups and the single missions are this: As a group- Every time the mission is reported, the research is "Making progress". As individuals- Sometimes produces no result, when it works, it works once for each person doing the research. I usually do group though. -
Shields do to make a difference. As soon as a planet has two shields of any type it becomes unassailable(can't assault it). Admiral Thrawn. There's your problem. Well, not really, but taking him out could make things easier. I'd see if I could abduct him with a bunch of guys. After that, Veers. I don't think you posted a commander so don't worry about that. Keep espionage active and watch for new officers. While there are none, sabotage the most powerful ships. Or, if you aren't going to try for Coruscant now, cripple their transports or escort carriers. Anything with lots of STUFF. Other than that, build up your fleets. Take their best shipyards if you haven't already. If they don't have shipyards, you can build your fleets while they can't. As soon as that happens, build your fleets untill you are dead sure Coruscant will fall. Bothans would be usefull to watch for shipyards...lots and lots of Bothans.
-
That's true, but a long time is relative. If your used to that shipyard spewing out SSDs in 3 days, 40 days is a long time to go without that shipyard. I've never really liked the Death Star. I've only used it once, and that was a mess around game. Go around, blow every Rebel planet to pieces. Maybe even a couple of your own. A planet on uprising? Blown away. It was fun, but after I destroyed too many of my planets, and the others turned to the Rebels my Death Star fell victim to a maintenance short fall. It was a sad day. Anyways...What is the Death Star really good for. In battle it's just a picture pasted on the side. It doesn't seem like it does anything but need defending.
