  1. As someone who HAS studied religion, I'll tell you that it is flawed. Especially Hinduism and Shinto. The major flaw is that most religions rely on an unexplainable being or beings (Hinduism has well over 500, but admittedly only 3 major ones) that create and sustain the universe. Exploration into the nature of these beings is regarded as impossible, for who could understand such a divine being? Its flawed because you can't test it. You can't even make a deduction from other, existing evidence. We don't know that humans can't escape a black hole for example, but we can assume that, given other tests (light can't escape). Absence of evidence is evidence of absence. Not proof by any means, but certainly evidence. Really, though, this is all off topic. If you guys want to battle it out with religion, theres another topic called "Religion" that you can bump.
  2. I go with the whole Parallel universe idea. The movies are one thing, and the EU has the events in the movies, and then some. I'm just sad that Bevel Lemelisk isn't deemed worthy to have designed the Death Star. That honor goes to some grasshoppers.
  3. If we go by that like of canon, then I believe the G-Canon Empire (thats just the movies, right?) isnt anti-alien. HerrGeneral makes some good points about that. Sure the novelization has Palpatine promising Dooku a human-run galaxy, but the novelization and the movie have different events in them: Windu letting the lightning harmlessly course through him in the book vs. blocking it with his saber in the movie. The evidence from the movies doesn't suggest a human empire. The EU, however, has a lot of stuff about it. I tend to include the EU in my view of star wars because I love SotE and Dark Empire, but these books weren't produced by Lucas. Thats why they have good writing.
  4. Hey there, Antonius. My mod isnt loadable by Rebed since Rebed doesnt change everything I changed! Just download the TC and unzip it into your rebellion directory and you'll see the changes the next time you load the game up! Its huge and its fun! As for EaW's demo, I can't help you since I don't have it. You can download directXC online though, just google for it.
  5. I dunno, Mad. I turned the harder AI on and still managed to clobber the rebs in 200 days. Of course, I'm big on sabotage, so extra ships don't mean much if they never get to be fielded
  6. Use resource hacker to look into Textstra.dll. They're all in there =)
  7. Its called packet logging, I think. You use a program that writes down the codes as you play the regular game so you have all the details of it. Lucas wouldn't be happy, admittedly, but its a European group thats doing this overseas, so even if they want to sue, it'll be awhile before they get all the legal kinks out. This stuff is done all the time with MMOs. Ultima Online, Everquest, and World of Warcraft all have their own emulators. SWG has some stuff in it that makes it hard to read, but hopefully these guys will get it to work.
  8. I'll try Luke again, now that Supremacy is finished. Spring Break is in a week and a half, so I should be able to do it then. Unless someone else has already done Luke?
  9. I dont know what kinda computers you guys are running, but that one makes mine look like a dinosaur! I only have 60gigs of HD space and 1g ram.
  10. You should play my TC! I re-did just about everything on it. Its a huge download, but it changes the voices, all the characters, most of the ships, and a lot of other things into an anime/video game version of SWR. http://download.filefront.com/4730503;8e3406b0f228b37b2bcd7551e25a6afc0a02ff2f2d7204e84b3507750caac208bc795ed3ea208f4d If you don't like that, I recommend the Protectorate TC by Cain. The rebels are supposedly harder to beat.
  11. Awesome. I just got mine. I hope I can reformat it and use it as storage space!
  12. My awesome TC STILL isnt up on the site! What's up with that? Its because I didn't get around to doing the voice for Luke on Reloaded, isnt it?
  13. Consider Maul's lightsaber, hereafter referred to as a Saberstaff. Its designed to be held horizontally and used with quick slashes that can kill close range people. Maul could also hold it to his side and thrust out--a tactic he used several times in tPM. When used either way (the thrust being a rather uncomfortable movement, and a little too difficult to use unless you kick them in the jaw first like he did to Qui-Gon) he doesn't gain the distance needed to successfully hit Dooku. The only way to gain the distance would be to shut off one blade and hold the handle further back, but thats just asking to get the saber (or his arm) sliced off. As for Force lightning, absence of evidence is evidence of absence. If theres a book/game/comic that says Maul can use it, then we'll assume he can. Finally, theres a really good reason Maul wouldnt have the skills to deflect the lighting. At the time of Maul's training, Sidious was the only one out there that could use it. Sidious, who wanted to keep his advantage so as not to be overthrown, wouldn't teach Maul how to block an attack usable only by the Sith. Obi-Wan's job in the war was to hunt down Dooku, so it would be expected that he would learn how to block it. Windu could prepare for it too, since he knew Dooku was a Sith from Geonosis. Maul wouldn't even see it coming. Skillwise, I'm tempted to put them like this: Dooku vs. Anakin Ventress vs. Maul vs. Grievous Jango vs. Durge
  14. Im getting EaW tomorrow and I plan on modding it after my initial playthrough. What I want to know is if players are able to change hero units? Say if I was running a Star Wars Infinities mod if I could recolor Vader so that he's white and put him on the rebel side? Or redo a skin so that Count Dooku is playable? I really dont know much about how moddable this game is, so help on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks
  15. Anakin in Ep.2 was as strong if not stronger than Obi in Ep.1. Qui-Gon was probably stronger than Obi-Wan in episode 2, but Dooku makes up for it with distance force lighting. Maul couldnt even reach Dooku before he's a crispy critter. Even at that range, though, saberstaffs don't have the range that Dooku's Makashi style gives. They're great for fighting in groups (which is why Maul would probably have a better shot at winning vs. Grievous, Ventress, or Anakin), but Dooku can just walk backwards and keep his distance with his fencing style. Maul just couldnt get in close enough!
  16. I agree with BS, obviously. I'm the biggest Dooku supporter on the forum I think. Dooku would Force Lightning in the first 10 seconds of the match to take out Grievous, Jango, Durge, and Ventress (all the non-Jedi and Ventress, who got whipped by it in Clone Wars microseries). That really just leaves Maul and Anakin. I'm inclined to believe that Maul would either die by Force Lighting a la Ventress or be weak enough to be killed by another lighting volley or just saber fighting. Then we're back at Dooku vs. Anakin. Without Obi and Palpatine to back him up, not to mention Dooku is fresh and Anakin is a little crispy, Dooku wins. The whole fight lasts around 5 minutes, 4 and a half of it being Dooku vs. Anakin.
  17. Just watched the Clone Wars microseries again, and saw the part where Dooku picks Asajj to be his assistant after she wins a tournament. That made me wonder this hypothetical scenario. Ignore story and time continuity for this, so just place the characters in this scenario. General Grievous, Count Dooku, Assajj Ventress, Durge, Darth Maul, Jango Fett and Anakin Skywalker (gone to the darkside but before the suit) all have to fight in a Geonosian style arena. Who walks out? For this battle, the whole EU is canon in terms of character ability/personality. That means that Darth Maul can be the cunning saboteur, and Durge can stick his hand into boiling lava and shrug it off. Since no teams are pre-formed (but they may form temporary alliances during battle), anything goes. The only other rule is no spaceships, so Jango can't call the Slave 1, for example.
  18. Happens from time to time. Every time you make a copy in Reshack it automatically makes a backup of that DLL file. Those names are in TEXTSTRA, arent they? either way, just delete the old file, Rename TEXTSTRA_original.dll to TEXTSTRA.dll and redo those changes. No need for a complete reinstall. Play a few games with regular names and take note of what names are what. The Judicator is ALWAYS that ISD over Coruscant. If you see a Carrack Cruiser names "Mopee's Revenge", then you'll know that the name can only be given to Carrack Cruisers. Go find that name in Textstra and replace what you want with it. Thats how I did mine.
  19. This is fun. I love the carpentry game! Too bad you have to pay real money to be a captain, though. Still, the free stuff isnt bad at all.
  20. Seems like Lando would be MORE likely to betray his side, since he did in in ESB!
  21. DS killing sprees are fun and easy!! Use outer rim planets with super resources and build enough for a DS full of fighters and 6 troops on each of those planets. Then run amok. The rebs can't sab troops they cant find.
  22. Better than Revenge of the Sith where Anakin has a habit of stabbing everyone through the chest. Dooku, Windu, Obi in the optional battle, Cin Drallig, etc. I love Skies of Arcadia. Vyse and Fina are one of my favorite game couples. Cupil is even in Supremacy to replace R2D2. And Zelos, the last boss, looks like the Death Star!
  23. People don't just rap on this game because of the graphics. The steep learning curve and the utter lack of an in-game tutorial knocks it down a few points. If graphics were everything, Final Fantasy VII wouldn't be such a hit. The game is repetitive. I play the game on hard mode, and its always the same thing. The rebs may sabotage another planet's defenses or the Empire may attack a different planet, but its always the same thing: Luke and Han blow up whatever's floating over Coruscant, supershipyard in the rim, invade Coruscant, win. No story worth speaking of, which while some people prefer no story, I think I can say that the majority do prefer a story. I run and play several of those nerdy text based RPGs, so graphics aren't all that important to me. In fact, I actually appreciate all the old fashioned artwork in Rebellion. Still, the game is appealing only to the select group of people who like this kind of game. Heck, look at chess. There are video games out there that require more strategy than chess, have better graphics, music, and storyline than chess, yet people still play chess because there's something about it that they enjoy. We're sorta like that
  24. Thinking of reasons why humanity is stupid while recovering from a calculus test. The fact that we can grasp the concept of calculus shows that we're not stupid. Not to say that we don't do stupid things, but we're far from morons. I suppose you could say that we've paid so much attention to higher, abstract problems and thinking that we've neglected to solve the immediate problems such as hunger, war, etc. Of course that just means we have serious priority problems, and I dont think thats enough to condemn a race.
  25. Rebellion, in my mind, is an inferior game compared to some of the other games they've produced. From a graphical, musical, and pure entertainment value, it falls behind other games. Its redeeming quality is that think-to-succeed thing that most good strategy games have, but analyzing it piece for piece, and I think it falls rather short. So why am I, and a bunch of other people, here rather than on another game forum? Obviously the modability of the game is great, but thats not all. Despite its flaws, we like the game because it suits our personal tastes. That doesn't make it a good game, its just one that we like. Sort of like how some people like a McDonald's hamburger over a T-bone steak. The steak is better in quality, flavor, etc, but some people just really like a hamburger. We're a niche crowd. We find something that appeals to us and we stick with it, no matter how crappy it is. Coming from a Firefly fan, I know what its like to be in that situation
