  1. Is this a case of the American Empire theory then?
  2. Hear Hear, I TOTALLY agree. If you need cheat codes to beat the AI.....well I can't say, and it is completely off the radar in multiplayer
  3. Its good to cross swords once more with you SOCL after all this time. I'm still smarting from my Latin correction You are of course correct that the American Revolution was the spark to the powder keg in France and many of our fundemental rights of man have thankfully sprung from that. I'm sorry I missed that out, and once again I stand corrected on that important omission. But all political systems start out with the best intentions, and all apart from democracy seem to lose their way or in some cases turn on their own people Glad to see you are still around
  4. Thanks anyway, unfortunately my parlez vous Francais is crap!!!!
  5. Does anyone know of a site I can download the Supremacy/Rebellion manual from so I can print it out. My original is begining to fall apart and I really want to save it for posterity Any help will be appreciated
  6. I certainly do not want to get into an arguement about politics with anyone, least of all you Scathane!!! But I have to disagree, Marxist/communist ideals have sprung from the ideals originally brought about by the cataclysm of the French Revolution, and these ideals were basically European. Fascism and its horrible offshoot Nazism are reactionary ideals opposed to the Age of Enlightment and the ideas of the French Revolution. Again these are basically European. So Europe in my opinion has brought as many bad things to the world as it has good. I'm not having a go, I just find the idea of a European Superstate abhorrent, costly and wasteful. Napoleon, Kaiser Wilhelm and Hitler have all tried militarily and all have nearly succeeded. Its just being brought back through 'the back door' now using countries economies as an excuse for increasing its power. I'm a NO to any more integration. Right, I'm going to get off my soapbox and go and blow up some planets.
  7. I am personally against it. Although Europe has brought the world many fine ideas, it has also bought us Facism ( Germany and Italy ) and Communism ( Russia and all its minions in the now long dead Warsaw Pact). The EU would it seems not be run by elected politicans but faceless unelected bankers, corrupt regional assemblies and yes men ( and women ). We do not reap the benefits of EU trading standards and integration even now. A packet of cigarettes in Spain is approx £0.60, but in Britain a packet will knock you back £4.50. Petrol is another major annoyance. Why are we paying one of the highest rates in the world for our fuel, when in other European countries it is much cheaper....and we have North Sea oil and gas. A level economic playing field.... don't make me laugh, it will NEVER happen. The point is the whole system is rigged and highly corrupt, you only have to look at the EU's accounts, they have not been signed off and authorised by their own accountants for the last THREE YEARS because its so corrupt. And anyone who has blown the whistle on what is going on has been publically vilified, slandered and sacked. Democracy in Action......yeah right Just my two ha'pennies worth
  8. Cheat Codes???? Cheat codes are surely for cheats, and to use one in a multiplayer game would be unforgiveable. This game is certainly deep and requires lots of forward planning when playing multiplayer, because that is where its true strength lies. I personally would consign anyone employing cheat codes to Imperial Prison Planet IPP101, to be endlessly tormented by IMP22 saying things like 'What do you think you are doing', and 'I think you have misunderstood the concept', plus being made to watch something like neighbours for all eternity. A real hell on earth, ( or on IPP101 anyway )
  9. Exactly, and that is what makes their use somewhat limited. The Death Stars real power is 'a threat in being' so to speak. The Domino effect of indiscriminate use of the Death Stars 'ultimate' usage at the wrong time in the game can be catastropic for the Empires 'cause'. My opinion is its a surgical terror weapon, rather than one that gets used all the time, but coupled with the enormous expense, plus the resources devoted to defending it from those pesky X Wings, makes the Imperial player really have to think about what he is going to do with it. The most satisfying use for it is the ambush of course with plenty of fleet units and Interdictor cruisers to stop the Rebels from just scooting off, so they get decimated one by one
  10. Hmmmm........ I think I'll have a pint of what you've been drinking or should I say I find your lack of faith disturbing I was thinking more along the lines of Grand Strategy. The Death Star is basically a 'terror' weapon albeit one endowed with enormous destructive power. On the whole I will use them but very very selectively due to their negative impact on planet loyalty, which brings us nicely to the subject of bombarding planets with fleet ships. Again I'm reluctant to use this option unless a) The whole sector is rebel controlled, in which case I will go for it, or b) Early on in the game when there are lots of neutral planets in a sector my diplomats have not got to yet
  11. In one of my gaming stories I had an interesting comment from Trev regarding Death Star use/construction etc. Trev was of the opinion that the Death Star is not very useful as they are vunerable to fiendish X Wing attacks. This of course is true. My feeling though is that just the mere 'presence' of a Death Star ( I'm talking multiplayer here obviously ), is a huge prestige boost to the Empires striking power and general 'fear' factor for the Rebellion player. Usage of DeathStar deployment is somewhat limited, as I only every use the DeathStar to eradicate the Rebel Base ( once my brave fearless spies have found out the location) and I am able to 'sneak' up on the Rebel Base before showing the galaxy the true futility of resistance to the Empire. It is also useful for laying an ambush for enemy fleets (aka Return of the Jedi type of ambush ). The problem with the DS is of course the huge numbers of units (especially fighter units ) that are required to defended it Have any other Imperial players got any thoughts on Death Stars usage, or do others think they are a huge waste of resources? I'm only talking about multiplayer here Any thoughts anyone???
  12. One thing I missed out in my tips advice for Imperials is always have a few Death Squads lying about. As soon as as your espionage droids discover a Rebel character, capture or liquidate him/her. If you capture them have one planet that is heavily defended and use that as your 'prison planet', and have them incarerated there, to be endlessly tormented by IMP22 poking them with a sharp stick and being forced to watch endless soaps on TV. Always do espionage on this planet to find out if the rebels are trying to rescue someone, and have them captured too by your Death Squads as they land on the planet to commence their mission. The other option is to load a captured character onto a small ship and have them endlessly moved about the galaxy, although you have to be careful with this especially when the rebel equivalent of interdictor cruisers start turning up
  13. Just employ all your characters who have the ability to research doing research. I rarely play the Alliance, and if I do it is to probe their capabilities and weakenesses!!! The Empires main function is to bring order and stability to the Galaxy, the Rebels are just.... REBELS. They must be brought to heel before the Emperor
  14. Remember the Imperial cause is just, bringing order and stability to the Galaxy. To stop a disasterous domino swing in a sector requires quite a few troops stationed there. Of course the best way to stop this is to have your diplomats doing the rounds on disloyal planets, giving them 'pep talks' ( 'I have altered the deal, pray I do not alter it further' is the phrase that springs to mind )
  15. If you are playing Imperial:- 1) Eliminate any rebel held planets in the Sessweena Sector as quickly as possible, by a combination of military strength and diplomacy. Have your diplomats converting ALL Neutral planets to your cause 2) Start exploring the outer rim for planets with high energy slots for building large shipyards, advanced training facilities and advanced construction yards. Imperial probes are good at this. 3) Constantly do espionage on your own and enemy planets. This is VITAL 4) Build lots of Imperial commadoes and troops on key planets, or planets you are going to use as a jumping off point for an offensive. 5) Do your research at max especially facility research early on ( you NEED those Advanced Construction yards ). 6) Keep Coruscant well defended and have the Emperor constantly recruiting. ( On Coruscant obviously ) 7) Keep the Rebellion off balance by using Victory Destroyers as Commerce raiders, to bombard enemy installations and resources in their rear areas. This can be further refined by using a few light cruisers loaded with 3/4 Imperial Commando's and a leader with a high espionage rating to arrive at an undefended planet and destroy very quickly all important installations. Once you have thrashed the AI a few times on Hard, start looking for a human opponent. This is where the game takes off so to speak and really comes into its own. 9) Crush the Rebellion 10) Enjoy this wonderful game.
