  1. Are you using 64-bit XP perhaps? http://www.swrebellion.com/wiki/Rebellion:Windows_XP_x64
  2. Intel has chips to match every one of AMD's prices for better performance. And they still have the high-end chips and the better technology manufacturing - 45nm. So for this generation of chips, Intel has won. In the next year, who knows? Ironically, AMD/ATI just turned over Nvidia's cards with the release of the HD 4850/4870 versus Nvidia's GTX 260/280. They are priced well below Nvidia's initial price points and perform just as well. Nvidia had to lower their prices really quickly to stay in the game. I'm not a fanboy for any one company, but buying now.. I would pick the one that gives me the best performance for the price. Not saying AMD is bad either. But get their Black Edition CPU and you'll overclock fine too
  3. Now stay around or we shall poke you with the soft cushions!!!.. I mean the pointed sticks! ... I mean come at you armed with a banana...
  4. Textures are going to be your main memory issue (at least for the graphics card). One instance of an object should share the texture of another instance of that same model. For reference, the HW2: Warlords models have textures normally around 1 MB to 5 MB. The highest is the Sovereign, something like 27 MB. Given decent mid-range cards now hold 256 MB, 512 MB, or even 1 GB of video memory, I don't think you'd reach that limit, esp if you're rendering what is essentially a space background with some ships. If we were talking a complicated 3D FPS with walls and floors and trees and monsters, yea you may definitely exceed that limit. Of course you do have to worry about how fast the video card can process. You may end up with having to deal with how many vertex or pixel shaders are needed. Older cards are limited that way, while newer cards have more generic programmable shaders to handle either case. Still there is a finite limit on how many vertices or pixels you can process and still make it playable (30 FPS or larger) (I realize I used FPS twice.. one as First-person Shooter and the other as Frames-per-second hehe)

Sorry about that, server was hickuped, I had to reboot it. I resyn'd the time
  6. They never specified. Supposedly they are lanes to travel between worlds, but whether they are exactly hyperspace lanes (not that ships in Star Wars travel in straight lines in the physical universe.. rather they go to an alternate Hyperspace dimension) or something, we're not sure. I guess they did slightly better than Rebellion in their placements, but it's more for gameplay value. I like that the lines give you travel restrictions, thus a sense of "borders" and "fronts" where Rebellion has ships popping in from anywhere to anywhere. Let's face it, ships shouldn't be stuck months in hyperspace.. they would just run out of supplies at some point right?
  7. I agree. Different pointless scenes make the novel seem even shorter, I generally skim past them anyay. Yep Luceno is supposed to write Millennium Falcon, which is supposed to be post-Legacy yet cover the history of the Falcon? Not that I want to see it retire, but come on.. how has that hung of junk survived against more modern ships?
  8. I admit: I've been trying not to read Invincible. I hate paying for hardcovers and they stack horribly on my bookshelf against my paperback collection. But I ended up in a bookstore and its the only novel I had left desire to read (and spend money on). This is my initial reaction: disappointment. Legacy built up to Jacen being murdered by his sister? Every important scene felt like it was rushed.. no surprise with the shortness of the book itself. Less than 300 pages, I finish those in no time. Luke playing mind games with Jacen? Okay I can sorta see that happening.. but it isn't resolved. Does Luke get some new powers? The book just kind of concludes with Jacen's dead: the galaxy is united again somehow.. under DAALA?? What? There isn't anything to resolve how the Sith continue.. or even why Jacen was relevant in the first place. I wanted to see Jaina really confront Jacen and attempt to turn him back. What was the whole twin thing if she's just going to ignore him? I wanted to see her hook up with someone.. Zekk or Jagged Fel deserve some love. Isolder's death - pointless. Shevu's death - slightly less pointless. Tahiri is still majorly messed up... I would love to see her attempting to take Jacen's place rather than getting turned back so easily. I wanted some more complex space battle for the finale. Oh they're being trapped, oh they have a Super Star Destroyer, on they are headed to the real base, oh the Anakin Solo is being destroyed. That's about it. And somehow they managed to sneak a missile boat across the battle to the other flagship and fake an injured ship? I'm a big fan of Denning's Star by Star. I don't know if this is just because it's what Denning was given to write, but I am just disappointed by this one.
  9. You could try renaming the files
  10. I think the BinK movie player was able to read the movies
  11. I am against any arbitrary limits. If a machine can handle thousands of ships at once, why not let it? As we increase computer hardware to future systems, we should be able to scale even further to higher numbers. If we wanted a small number of ships, we'd be playing Empire at War. If people want a 1000 vs 1000 ship slugfest, give it to them
  12. I think Eville only as the English version. As such, the mod isn't localized to any other languages. Feel free to volunteer to do the work if you want it in your language
  13. I believe its a bug with the Empire AI right now.
  14. I knew it was Trandoshan And they did use it on a SW:CCG card I believe
  15. Good place to start right up top: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2443
  16. Compared to the existing in-game races, no When the Rebels ships come in, they will be loosely balanced then. That is, you should be able to play a game as a Rebel or Imperial. My guess is that ships will, stat-wise, match up to what is known about them. Eville Jedi really hates paper-scissors-rock games so ships won't be balanced just to support a "unit - counterunit" gameplay. The Empire will have its advantages, the Rebels their advantages.
  17. Well there isn't too much to talk about. Just have to be patient, this mod isn't Eville's first job
  18. Which is exactly the point! It is a hack'n'slash game... so it requires no thought. It is fun for little while and great in LAN parties. And for a little D2 nostalgia: Deckard Cain raps
  19. More novel news... Clone Wars novels by Karen Traviss and a newcomer, Karen Miller I know some of you have thoughts about Karen Traviss's writing. New SW Encyclopedia
  20. Yes, the first version of this mod is up and available at http://warlords.swrebellion.com Eville Jedi is planning an update, but I don't know if there is any timeline for that. A lot of this, like the research and gameplay elements such, is currently planned. For significant bugs with released Empire ships, you should use the bug tracker and report them so Eville Jedi can fix them.
  21. swmusic.big isn't required. Try updating your video drivers and so forth?
  22. Sorry, I don't see anything obvious that I can change to do that
  23. They are both from Empire at War. There should be models for them already
