  1. Awesome! I love futurama! one of our 3 mainstream TV channels in Aus has futurama on at the moment. Love the show. In equally awesome news for me, I got my results back for my last semester of uni - 3 HD's and 1 DI. Had hoped for the 4 of a kind, but I'm not complaining, because those 4 of a kind were thought to be credits

  5. I'm affraid I've never come across such a problem with Rebellion - but you might try a few things. See how much free space you've got left on the drive the game's on - there's a slight chance there's simply not enough free space. Try changing the name of the save game to something simple and short - try Game 1. Some older games have problems with certain characters, letter combinations as well as the length of the name. If this doesn't work, post up some things about your game. Is it modded, or just the original Rebellion? What's your computer and Operating System? Does your computer often have problems (crashing, reading or writing errors etc.) Hopefully it's something simple. Best of luck
  6. Thanks Def, those'll help a lot. I'll be looking into your model tomorrow - currently, I'm working on something for a portfolio. I've made a low poly model and I'm working on the highpoly for normal mapping. Since the low looks boring, I'll start showing the high. I've got to state that the art isn't mine, but some early concept work from Bioshock (not in the game). I went to a game expo on Friday, and that was there and kinda got me hooked. erm..also there's that MP7 I should kinda finish too. http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/4775/monsterprocess01el6.th.jpghttp://img209.imageshack.us/img209/6484/monsterprocess02hn3.th.jpg http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2158/monsterprocess03ik4.th.jpghttp://img255.imageshack.us/img255/8341/monsterprocess04bi0.th.jpg I've only done the top half of the thing, underside, legs, arms and head are yet yo be detailed.

  11. This is a very mysterious, esoteric cobservation of something, Mr Krytos I usually mutter the same thing under my breath when I step of the underground in the morning having been squeezed and shuved like a cow in a kettle market Well, yes it is a bit esoteric. Ok, how can it not be really seeing as I left it at that Buuuut, it was to do with elation (or lack thereof for some weird reason) at finishing Uni. My last exam was on Monday (yes, took me a while to get back here with that) and grad is in decemeber some time. Happy days? We'll see

  14. From experience, Rebellion's engine will handle not only high poly counts by high numbers of the units. In that respect, it's robust. However, considering the engine uses limited lighting, colours, basic to no animation other than changing coordinates, little camera functionality, has no form of shadowing, next to no z-buffer etc. etc. it's not that surprising that a limited system will be able to cope with high poly models as it doesn't deal with much rendering. I've played early, early (hell, alpha stage reloaded...in other words, just the new models ) versions of Reloaded's models with a very high volume of ships. The number escapes me at the moment, but I'd wager it was over 50 and going towards the hundreds in my fleet alone. Reloaded appeared to handle it with little lag, but there was some. That being said, it's good practise to play the conservative with an ageing engine. The engine was made for mediocre systems of the day, the original models had a poly count in the hundreds and texture were ... well, damn small. That was all in the name of RAM, something systems had little of. Modern systems might dwarf these requirements, but that doesn't mean everyone playing this game has a modern system. Game models, as practise, should me optimised as much as possible. Also, there is a chance that these higher poly models and textures being used in mods are part of the reason that Rebellion has a higher tendency to crash during tactical mode (I've noticed this with any new model imported into the game, that it can crash. However, it could simply be because Rebellion wasn't designed for modding and is just a side effect). I personally aim for a poly target of ~1500 polys for a large ship in Rebellion, as they often need more detail. Smaller ships <1000 polys - but that's just me. When I made some models for Reloaded I went for the least amount of polys I could, and now looking at them I'm tempted to modify them to reduce the count again from techniques I've learnt to problems with Rebellion's engine. Which brings me to the final point, Rebellion's old and cruddy engine. You may have read about a Z-Buffer issue, where faces on your mesh will flash on and off. This basically means that some models need to be modelled in a certain way (high poly ISDs have had problems) and small details rarely get seen or rendered and can also make the mesh appear glitchy. Oh, I should also mention that the game supports LOD, so you can have your "close" version of the ship at 3000 polys and your "far" at a fraction, because at that distance you cant see any details, half the time a lot of ships look the same. So, to conclude, try to go as low as you can - set a poly count that you think is acceptable by your machine and others, 2000 or even 3000 for the high poly version perhaps. At the end of the day, it all really matters on what the user gets out of it - do they enjoy the new model? Does it look good? Can it be a handful of polys and people will still like it? Does it lag their system? If they can't see the detail, why have it?

  19. Use whatever software you're comfortable with. There are a lot of packages out there, some free - others not. But, just because it's free doesn't mean it's bad. Of course, usually when money is involved you get something better - in the case of max, it's usually additional functionality to make things easier or quicker. Also rendering abilities etc. But, blender (even though complex) is probably one of, if not the, best free 3d package available if you want to model high poly and low poly scenes.
  20. Haha, I missed this one JH So true as well. Well, except the torque part if you turbo the block - then they'll jump in torque, quiet literally doubling. The stock RX-7 FC with an NA block had a meagre 140 or so Nm or Torque, the turbo 295Nm. Not massive figures, but for a 1.3 and in a car that weighs under 1400kg that's a nice amount of torque. Hell, my brothers 4.4 V8 make 440 Nm .. and I feel that I've waffled on for a bit too long again

  23. And the man wins the prize! I ran out of time and brain function to make him look too different, so in the end it still looks exactly like him, which is annoying but meh. Appologise for the water mark, but it's for a uni subject and all. For the faces it's a pretty simple technique of sampling the colours of a given face and drawing with them ... and in my case using the face as a template.
  24. I've lost, back in the day I got the game and had no idea what to do with it. Oh, and I played as the rebels which makes it easier to lose as destroying the HQ isn't that hard - fleet it or sabbatage.
  25. Yeah, I remember seeing that picture for the first time ... I do believe my face went Guess I should contribute or something...
