The greatest deficiency in Star Wars Games

A blind man could see where not to shoot on an AT-ST! Why don't they include it? -
OOC: Flu, I understand. Oh and everyone I've selected the next Rapora Target: Bilbringi under Imperial control. I think elements of the GFFA fleets will be there as well after Csilla. "You don't have any more tricks up your sleeve do you?" Mara yelled as a plasma bolt flashed down from the hole and smashed into the ground. Seryk shook his head as he leveled his blaster, "No, any idea what these guys have as personal equipment?" Suddenly a disk whirred down from the hole and shot toward them three red blades flashed blightly as Seryk rolled forward away from the attack. The disk turned around and sped back toward them. Mara made a gesture with her hand and sent the disk spinning upward into the ceiling where it was securely jammed into the slit it had cut itself. Then a Rapora warrior dropped down the hole, its hands clasped firmly around an activated lightsaber. Seryk stepped back as he triggered a burst which the creature deflected. Fumbling he grabbed a frag grenade from his pocket and through it at the creature using the force. The grenade smashed into the creature's chest plate and flung him back into the wall then detonated. Its armor tore apart from the blast, slicing one of its hands clean off with a piece of shrapnel and peppering the rest of his body with fragments. The creature stood and tossed aside its destroyed helmet as blood ran down its fractured Jaw. Mara couldn't believe her eyes knowing the creature should have fainted from the pain. Then whizzing through the air the lightsaber equipped disk flashed through its neck and dropped the creature to the floor. The disk sped back toward them its blades deactivated and Ben reached out and caught it. His face twisted into the grim display Mara always had when in combat, "What now?" Another figured dropped down through the hole, his brown robes burned and singed, his face a glow with the force. He marched past them his long dirty blond hair visible in the darkness and flung out his hand. Suddenly a large chunk of stone fell away to reveal the desert beyond. He turned to Luke as a Sekotan ship slid into the newly made entrance, "Lets go." * * * Darth Malice gripped his lightsaber tight enough that the plastic of its handle shattered in his grip as he watched the Sekotan ship blast away, its drives clearly visible in the sky. It vanished as a force cloak was drapped over it. Slowly he turned back to the house and shuddered. Twelve Rapora warriors lay crumpled, their bodies smoking from electricity or the blade of a lightsaber. Shren slowly rubbed her head as she looked at the wreckage, "We've set him loose." She kicked at a ragged piece of metal which had once been a rapora helmet, "Why did we ever come here!" Darth Malice felt fear begin to nip at his anger, "I've never seen a warrior such as that Jedi, if he is a Jedi, such skill with a blade is not natural, and the losses..." Shren shivered despite the heat, "Are far worse then what the objective was worth." She sighed, "Fortunately for us they're still trapped on the planet." Darth Malice looked at her with shock, "What?" She smiled, "Don't you know, that ship only has enough breathable air for three if you use a trance, no they'll stay on this world, and I know how we'll keep them here." * * * The Timeless One nodded as he studied the Galactic Map, yes the next target would be one they would not anticipate. He glanced at the guard off the door and nodded, "My lord, Darth Fury." Darth Fury slid into the room his hands clasped in front of him and bowed slightly, "How may I serve you my lord?" "Take the First War fleet to Bilbringi, there you will find the remnants of the Imperial Forces that engaged us here, destroy the shipyards and as many vessels as practical, I'll await your report." "What of Shren and Darth Malice my Lord?" Darth Fury asked quietly. "They are currently working on an errand for me Darth Fury, I must request that you dispatch Darth Tuvax to Tatooine to assist in the errand."

Vong vs Rapora, I'd have to say Rapora. A Rapora warrior has this as a basic equipment load. 1 Fully cortosis lined and enclosed combat suit with an air filter to remove smoke, dust, gas. 1 Helmet equipped with infrared, x-ray, and ultraviolet sensors along with a sonic sensor and anti-sound for protection against sonic attack. 1 Plasma Carbine capable of deliver rapid fire with an explosive yield equal to a heavy blaster cannon (As in vehicle mounted) 1-2 Personel lightsabers 1 Light disk, imagine throwing a frisbee with a trio of small lightsabers mounted on it. 3-6 Thermal Grenades, very similar to a thermal detonator but equipped with a stick shapped handle for farther throws. -OR- 1-2 Xeno bombs, which kill using only radiation leaving structures and equipment intact. 1 Personal Plasma sidearm, punch equal to a disruptor. Plus, because a rapora warrior isn't humanoid... Clawed hands and feet, including a killing claw on the middle toe. A highly decentralized nervous system, stun rarely works. Their top speed cross country is over sixty kilometers an hour, and they can jump over eight feet straight up without force enhancements.

That may take awhile, Trej. So what do you think of the Stats?
-
Trej...tell him who the purple lightsaber guy is so he doesn't flip...You're the one that guessed it. A Kar Lur Class Cruiser... Shields: 48000 SBDs Hulls: 4400 RUs Speed: 40 MGLTs Manueverability: 12 DPF Armament: 2 Super Heavy Plasma Cannons (Equal in damage to an LNR II) 6 Heavy Plasma Cannons (12x as powerful as a Turbolaser) 16 Medium Plasma Cannons (8x as powerful as a Turbolaser 48 Light Plasma Cannons (4x as powerful as a Turbolaser) 12 Anti-starfighter Laser Cannons (Rate of fire 4x that of the Falcon's defense cannons) Carries four squadrons of fighters. Crew: 120 Rapora Warriors 16,800 Droids Troops: 1 full Raporan Division: 1,980 Rapora Warriors 8,000 Droideka'kar Droids A plethlora of support units. * * * Raporan Savla Class Light Cruiser Shields: 4400 SBDs Hull: 980 RUs Speed: 90 MGLTs (Yeah its a fast ship) Manueverability: 24 DPF Armament: 24 Raporan Mines (Each one equipped with a medium plasma cannon) 4 Heavy Plasma Cannons (12x as powerful as a Turbolaser) 12 Light Plasma Cannons (4x as powerful as a Turbolaser) 4 Anti-starfighter Laser Cannons (Rate of fire 4x that of the Falcon's defense cannons) Crew: 96 Rapora Warriors 264 Droids Troops: 1 full Raporan Regiment 128 Rapora Warriors 960 Droideka'kar Droids Can carry two Starfighters * * * A Defra Class Corvette...(Which hasn't appeared yet) Shields: 1200 SBDs Hulls: 210 RUs Speed: 120 MGLTs Manueverability: 69 DPF (Its faster and just as manueverable as a YT-1300, but much larger) Armament: 4 Medium Plasma Cannons (8x as powerful as a Turbolaser) 6 Anti-starfighter Laser Cannons (Rate of fire 4x that of the Falcon's defense cannons) Crew: 4 Rapora Warriors 18 Droids Troops: 1 Raporan Company 18 Rapora Warriors 102 Droideka'kar Droids * * * Tuvax on the Ground? hmm... We haven't decided on the next target for the Rapora yet, when we do...

The greatest deficiency in Star Wars Games

Just think if they put you in an X-wing with Proton Torpedoes...No more walker In the books an X-wing's lasers can cut through their armor too. Thats the problem with the Airspeeder, they're hideously undergunned against walkers or starfighters. An X-wing has some points that would be cool if they put them in... (These are after you nock down the shields) X-wing: Power Plant, one hit Boom! Proton Torpedo Tubes, boom. Ion engines, cut manueverability and cause the craft to twist toward the damaged engine. Laser cannons, no more lasers! The Artoo unit, that great electronic scream... Stabilizers, make all thrust vectoring on that side fail. Hence if you pull up with a destroyed stabilizer, you spin. Repulsorlifts, you fall like a rock, the only way to escape this would be to pull the imfamous Jade tailstand or run for space. Canopy, wounded/dead pilot. S-foil actuator, the wings are stuck in their current position, if combat position, gear are missaligned. Etc... -
Like this? Raporan Starfighter: Hull: 60 RU Shields: 120 SBD Speed: 145 MGLTs Manueverability: (Similar to an A-wing) Armament: Dual Plasma Cannons with damage yields equal to a light turbolaser. A lone Plasma bomb or dual cluster missile launcher.

The Timeless One nodded as the last of the combat forces fled the battle, "Commander you may commence the operation." "Yes my lord," One of the Rapora leaned over a console and typed in a series of commands. Outside the canopy of the bridge the Raporan Replicator swung around and began to fire. Within seconds a low intensity repulsor beam had cut through the crust of the world. Then the world broke arpart sending pieces of itself spining through space. But these suddenly slowed and began to curve back toward the replicator as pulse gravity projectors kicked in. Slowly the Replicator drifted into the debris field and began to suck in the pieces. Soon the world that had once been Csilla would be in the hulls of thousands of Raporan ships.

The greatest deficiency in Star Wars Games

Considering blasters cause burns not impact wounds, a head shot might be survivable, it would still put you out of action though. Armor in Star Wars: I'd say that making it so blasters do less damage at long range would make it more of an issue, they are after all a bolt of superheated gas, and that would becomes less dangerous the further away from the barrel until it was useless. Most of the fighting in the movies takes place at less then twenty meters, at that range a stormtrooper should be down armor or no armor. Grazes would do less damage though because of the armor protection. At ranges of one hundred meters the armor should be adequate protection. Don't bring up Zahn's Survivor's Quest, remember those blasters were fifty years old, and allot less effective. There is some data on weakpoints on all the ships in the books and movies, for example... AT-AT: Weak spots: The drive system underneath the hull (Its hard to hit). The neck of the vehicle, and the joints of the legs (From the side, not the front) AT-ST: Weak spots: Everywhere but the armored head, especially the drive system and power cells. AT-PT: Weak spots, the forward canopy, the drive system, and the upper hull. Still the armor is weak enough in general that it only works well against small arms. -
Considering just how much firepower a Kar Lur has, (It could probably take on a sovereign class.) An SSD sized vessel might be overkill.
-
OOC: Artoo is deactivated inside Obi-wan's House. IC:The Timeless one watched as the Alliance fleet drifted toward his force, coming to strengthen the Imperials. As it did it brought itself unwittingly before the Raporan Replicator. He smiled slightly at the sight, "General Varak you may fire when ready." Suddenly from the Replicator's Arms plasma arched to its center, giant repulsor and tractor beam crafted the plasma into a solid beam of energy which washed across the Alliance ships. Half were either destroyed or left dead in space at that moment. * * * Jaian winced away from the canopy as she watched half the Alliance fleet meet its doom awashed in flame and a beam which she'd only heard of but never seen, a plasma repulsor beam, the same weapon which made Centerpoint an superweapon. Now it was in the hands of a merciless and devestating foe. Behind her Jaina sensed a hungry alien mind moving to engage her craft. A powerful Raporan mind. In her rear sensors she could see the fighters dogfighting and the Sekotan skip manuevering against the Raporan craft. Glancing beside her she waggled her wings to Jag and dove into the fight. OOC: BadSamaritan, You may come to the Skywalkers rescue at any time.
-
The Timeless One will be able to activate Centerpoint. Yes Trej, you can make the empire a bit bigger. Now, any other complaints/questions/suggestions? They're going to build a second Replicator from the debris along with a number of the other vessels I've added. I'm thinking about adding a class in the SSD size range. Darky's Alliance fleet will be cut in half.
-
Worse, they're going to destroy Csilla with the Replicator and use the material from the planet to build additional and larger vessels. You're going to want to organize block the Rapora to allow the last of the Chiss to escape. Darky, next time I post expect your fleet to be cut almost in half.

The greatest deficiency in Star Wars Games
Stellar_Magic replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in General Discussion
What I'd like to know is why Lucasarts hasn't even tried to put in a proper damage model with their new games. If you've ever played IL-2 you know that how many times you get hit doesn't matter nearly as much as where you get hit. If you made the same true with SW games the gameplay would be awe inspiring. I was hoping when I first saw Republic Commando Lucasarts had finally gotten smart and created a rainbow six style game, wrong o. Even the most recent releases aren't living up to my expectations. Starfighter was hilariously easy, and Rogue Squadron III still used the classic star wars hitpoint system. Four hits for Squints, Two hits for Eyeballs, Six hits for Dupes. Come on, I wanna play so that if you nail a Dupe's bomb bay it explodes, what would be wrong with that? Any word ont he realism of the newest release whats it called Galactic Battlefront or something? -
The greatest deficiency in Star Wars Games
Stellar_Magic replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in General Discussion
Not really, KOTOR was exclusively hitpoints, like all RPG games. I'm not complaining about it though, it was, after all, designed as an RPG. What would be really fun would be if they had a damage system for the space flight and atmospheric flight sims. "Break right Rogue three!" "I can't shake him!" Lasers impact harmlessly against the shield then one penetrates and blasts into the upper port engine, which flames out. "I've lost an engine!" You try and break hard to get the TIE off your rear but the X-wing keeps crabbing sideways because of the lost engine. Another shot slashes through the shield and vaporizes the laser cannon on your starboard wing. You try and break hard again as a blast smashes into the s-foil actuator sending sparks throughout the cockpit and around your fuselage. As you break the connector fails and one of the wings and engine rip free of the fighter. You grab for the ejection loop as the powerplant goes critical...boom. Or say you launch a volley of torps at the centerline of a Nebulon B. You'd be able to see them blast apart the connector and watch the crew start pumping out the escape pods. You could target the power generators on a Carrack cruiser and disable it with a couple torpedoes...etc. Now that would be fun -
Star Wars games from lucas arts seemed absolutely stunning five years ago. Nothing was better then blasting stormies in Dark Forces and Jedi Knight, pounding TIEs in the X-wing series, or bombarding planets in Star Wars Rebellion. Then as I played other games some of the Star Wars games left me in a state of seething anger. It all began when I played a little known game called Red Baron II. Never before had I played a game where where you shot mattered. You hit an engine it would sputter and fail. Hit a landing rod and it would rip free. Hit an aileron and the plane wouldn't turn. You could feel immersed because you were faced with challenges inherit in combat with an accurate damage system. Its been several years now and every combat sim has a damage system, except Star Wars. IL-2, Janes, European Air War, Star Trek Bridge Commander, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Operation Flashpoint, and dare I say it Microsith Combat Flight Simulator. Now its really begining to bug me considering what some of the new Lucas arts titles are like. Lucas Arts still uses hit points for all its games (That I know of) This system is as old as nintendo and just as obsolete. I want realism, or as close to realism as I can get in the Star Wars Universe. So I've been forced to modify all the Star Wars games I can, with some interesting results. In Jedi Knight II and III, I've lowered hit points so that one hit kills an opponent. I only play on hard and it still doesn't seem real. It is an improvement though. In X-wing Alliance I tripled the top speed of all the fighters and slashed their hull and shield ratings. It looks like the movie when you're playing but there still aren't damage zones. In SWR I completely changed all the ratios to show their real strengths. You've probably seen these under the "Just a bit too realistic (maybe)" thread. I think that allot of the new Star Wars games would be allot more fun if they did what other successful sims have done, use a damage engine. Don't you agree?
-
Yes, the fix centerpoint. Do you get to kill you know who? Not right away. Yes you can choose a new capital for the empire once Bastion is decimated. The vong will get dragged in when Zonoma Sekot gets dragged in, shortly after Luke and Mara get their new ship. Coruscant has no strategic value at the moment, it has to be rebuilt before it becomes a target.
-
I expected some sort of sarcastic reply by now Now lets see... after Csilla An all out attack on target worlds by the Rapora: Yaga Minor Bastion Ossus Denon Mon Calamari Bilbringi Kuat Fondor Corellia Rapora sieze the worlds of: Tatooine Korriban Mara and Luke get a new ship, the Jade Scimitar Any questions, comments concerns. Worlds you think should be targets?
-
So in your opinion its cool But how realistic is it? And what are the system requirements?

I had some introductory classes in Spanish, never got far though. You're right with germans building words... No one else would say: Fallschirmjaegargewehr As one word. -
OOC: Waiting for Darky to post... Oh what the Heck! IC:Darth Malice felt his hands tremble slightly as he drew his lightsaber and ignited it, the sole blade humming through the darkness. The man smiled slightly at him then struck his purple blade hissing through the air toward its target. Darth Malice twisted away as the blade sliced into his outer robes, leaving them in tatters. He dropped the boy Ben onto the ground and deflected the hot energy blade before the man could twist it back toward him. Shren spoke quickly into her commlink as the man advanced on Malice, "Condition Spike Cycle, we need help." She turned back toward the fight just in time to duck as the man's lightsaber hurtled toward her. She dove into her cloak and withdrew her orange saber and ignited it, "Malice, bracket him!" Darth Malice had already begun sliding to a point opposite Shren anticipating her orders. Behind him Ben slowly stirred his hands gropping forward across the floor. The man smiled calmly as Shren slunk toward him. She struck and the man redirected the blow forcing Darth Malice to deflect the blade from him. Shren swore, the man was planning on using their attacks to engage each other. Ben suddenly knelt down beside the hole in the floor and reached out with the force. Mara felt her soon and spun toward the entrance of the chamber, "Luke!" Luke was already unfastening his lightsaber, "Two of them, for now anyway." Mara scrambled toward the opening in the ceiling and began to pull herself through when suddenly her lightsaber popped free from her belt and soared into hands of a man squaring off against to widely space opponents. As she straightened the doors of the house burst open and a squad of twelve Raporan warriors sped into the room. Mara starred in horror and grabbed Ben's hand and pulled him back through the entrance and into the cavern below. * * * Jaina pulled the canopy of her X-wing Starfighter shut over her head as Jag's Clawcraft came to a hover and began firing upward to ward off a trio of Raporan Fighters clawing their way towards them. Suddenly a Sekotan Skip slashed across them, killing two of the fighters before settling in behind the lead starfighter.

Stellar Magic/Rapora Wars Discussion

I know some german...and yes the syntax and sentece structure are different, but English is more complex in most areas. For instance, just think how many words we have for dog... In English: Dog, pooch, hound In Germam: Hund (I'm not sure if I'm spelling it right.) And it only gets worse from there... Fear, terror, scare, fright, coware... The english language actually has millions of words... Because of this its impossible for people to know every single one, and even more improbable if its your second language. Brethren, Family, House, Ancestory, Lineage, Relations, Siblings, Kindred... I'm growing fatigued, and tire of the morose nature of this post, idle and dull yet? Need I go on -
Stellar Magic/Rapora Wars Discussion

Maybe something gets lost because of your poor english... Its not an insult but English is known to be one of the most complex languages on earth, and hard to read even for us. For instance: The man slumped to the ground with a crimson stain blosoming on his shirt. (More difficult to understand but more artistic.) The man fell with a red stain on his shirt. (Easier to understand but less artistic.) The searing heat of firing left the weapon's metal bores glowing dimly in the inky darkness. The heat of firing left the barrels glowing in the night. Its all about striking a balance between the two styles, and if you do it right... -
Its unfortunate that we don't have any more people joining in... Of course the guys that might have, just disappeared, and their threads are dead so... Long Live Rapora Wars! Let it live long and prosper.
