Pet Peeve - No cut scene when you sabotage the Alliance HQ
Imperator replied to glandry's topic in General Discussion
I have in my possession a copy of the Star Wars Trilogy CD ROM that was published after 'The Return of the Jedi', with LOADS of movie clips and audio clips from all three films. There are so many clips on it that could be utilised in the game. I use it basically in windows for sound effects like 'What have you done with those plans' when I empty my recycle bin'. Its cool to listen to Darth and the rest while you are working My all time favourite ' You have failed me for the last Time' would be great if you utilised it when tratiors are 'retired'. There is so much excellent stuff on this CD, its a shame the developers wont let you use it in the game. Drop me a line if you feel any of it would be any use. -
Please see my comments under 'Bug or Feature' .

You want to try using them for real. Not only is it EXTREMELY scary, if you have to run in them you want to either a) pass out or b) rip it off your face and suck in huge amounts of air contaminated with something that is trying to kill you. I am not a gas mask fan, and would rather listen to Tony Blair than wear one ( although I'm not sure which is worse ) I do hope you are joking when you say you sit down and play Rebellion with it on

I have tried a few times to linl up to this site but all I get is 'League Deleted'. Has this ladder been shut down?
-
I can see it no worries

Then SOCL's only option is to become a more powerful Jedi, and use that old Jedi mind trick:- 'You will ignore my saboteurs and allow them to complete their missions' It always works for me!!!!

What Other Books are you Reading?
Imperator replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in General Discussion
The books I am plowing through at the moment are:- 1) Inside the Third Reich by Albert Speer 2) The Battle of Towton by A.W. Boardman 3)The Mortimers Lords of the March by Hopkinson and Speight 4) Heart of Darkness by Joesph Conrad 5) Emperor The Gates of Rome by Conn Iggulden. Heart of Darkness has one of my favourite quotes of all time:- 'And this stillness of life did not in the least resemble peace. It was the stillness of an implacable force brooding over an inscutable intention. It looked at you with a vengeful aspect'. A thought provoking observation by Conrad on the aspect of Nature itself. It also reminds me about playing Rebellion !!! When it goes quiet for 20-30 turns does'nt mean the Empire is'nt doing anything. -
Congratulaions SOCL I have cast my vote for 'Imperial Tyrant' as that sounds right for the leader of the BEAK IMPERIUM

You are obviously growing weaker in The Force so I would recommend a Jedi Training Mission on Coruscant with The Emperor !!!! Seriously though, one thing you may have ovelooked ( and I'm only suggesting 'may have' ) is the Loyalty Rating of the Target planet. With such large teams operating on an undefended, but very anti 'you' planet the chance is 'someone' may notice something very strange about large numbers of men in obviously false beards and outrageous French accents walking around enquiring where the Gencores are!!! I personally prefer much smaller teams, 2 on mission and 1-3 on decoy. A character and 1 or 2 commados on mission and 1-3 on decoy is even better!!! Even on a very 'anti' planet, out of several teams at least one or two will get through. Another tactic on defended planets is to assign a team to each 'item' on the planet. You will at least hit something as this seems to have the effect of 'occupying' all the forces and installations with defending themselves from being blown to pieces.....consequently one or two teams get a result. Hah!! That will show those Rebels the true reach of The Emperor!!!!!!1 One other thing to consider is if there are any personnel assigned to the planet in a command role, then they MUST be liquidated, injured or captured before serious sabotage can begin. So if they are lurking somewhere, get those Noghri Death Squads in fast as your sabotage teams leave to wreak havoc. If you co-ordinate your attacks to hit all at once, you WILL start getting results. Hope this may help you regain The Force.

What are your favorite strategy games besides Rebellion?
Imperator replied to igorimp's topic in Outside Interests
Sorry SOCL..... Trev knows what I'm talking about. I was just referring to a comment you made in another thread about my age.......' you're THAT old?' or something like that. I was just having a playful dig..... -
I will look forward to that!!!!
-
Sorry I did not realise you were talking just about the AI Well the solution to the AI's predictability ( its adequate, and thats being generous ) is to play multiplayer!!!! Thats when the games true horizons are revealed. Come and face the true power of the Empire!!!!!
-
I agree with Lord Vader. This is a great place to arrange to meet. Its easy to arrange with another player in the Forum, and then you just meet up at the prearranged time, the host gives the other his IP Address and 'Whey Hey' you are playing the game how it was meant to be played, against a living, breathing, thinking and down right mean and devious opponent. I have two ongoing games at the moment against two very sporting, tough but worthy opponents and I am thoroughly enjoying both. I recommend this approach to anyone interested in multiplayer games. Any player who fancies himself as a potential leader of the Rebels is more than welcome to play against me in a game to the death!!!! Just drop me a line!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tip Trej.....I've finally cracked it!!! On topic:- I am afraid in my humble opinion I disagree with this strategy. For a start the antihesis to this approach is for the player on the receiving end of this covert onslaught is to build ALOT of espionage droids and troops on the planets that are being targeted and constantly do espionage missions on these planets. The more troops there are, they have the effect of 'slowing' down the mission ( ie it takes longer to complete ), and the chances of discovering (ie Aborting ) the mission are greatly increased . When the nasty old saboteurs are 'discovered' the player has two approaches:- a) If you are lucky enough to discover a mission that is actually operating on the planets surface, you then unleash your Imperial commandos and Noghri Death Squads etc ( preferably with a character leading them ) against them. The missions are now in serious danger of being killed or captured b) If the saboteurs have not arrived ( ie they are still travelling to the target ), then you stagger groups of espionage droids to do missions on the planet to maximise the chances of catching them 'in situ'. Once they are discovered then go to a) above. Of course this defensive 'counterattack' can be greatly enhanced by positoning ships, troops and fighters above the target planets. Another key to this strategy is to eject the enemy from a sector, so to operate this strategy they have to send their saboteurs on long missions from neighbouring sectors, again increasing their chances of detection as they travel through hyperspace. While all this is going on, your fleets attack and capture key enemy planets So in my opinion those fleets are VITAL to increase your Imperial hegemony and to crush those evil Rebels!!!!

I've got to say I only use Commandos in support of a mission with a decent char..... ie 1 char and 1 commado on the mission and 1 commado as a decoy or 2-3 commandos on the mission and 1-2 as decoys..... I find the odds for success are greatly increased by doing this. Of course very heavily defended planets ( or those with a General ) need a far greater effort

Then this is truly a case of 'THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK'

Why does my game crash after I made changes?
Imperator replied to GenRommel's question in Questions from Newbies
Hi GenRommel welcome to the Forum!!! I assume you are talking about changes made by RebEd Are you playing the AI or are you playing multiplayer??? If you are playing multiplayer , the other player must have the same values as you have otherwise the game will not match up. ( I have found this out to my cost!! ). I am a novice when it comes to RebEd, Trev, Jahled SOCL et al are really the ones to ask on this subject. For more info on multiplayer probs see the thread marked Supremacy vs Rebellion. Evader99 gave me some useful advice -
Now that is something I had'nt made much of, although I had a suspicion this was going on in the background. Thanks for clearing that up Jahled. You have grown strong in the force young one With this extra information the Empire becomes stronger Off topic:- I can assure you, all that impassive sitting on the horse or sitting in a tank ( they were Cheiftains when I was in, thats how long ago it was !!), gave one alot of time to think about routing out Rebel dissent within The Empire
-
Thanks Trejiuvanat, that has cleared up something that has been a puzzle for years. I shall be using this pearl of wisdom in my future games against the Rebel Alliance!!!
-
The Household Cavalry is the monarchs personal mounted ( as opposed to the Foot Guards who are the sovereigns Infantry ) body guards comprising of two Regiments The LifeGuards ( to which I belonged ) and The Blues and Royals. Anyway back to the topic:- Every character assigned to a mission does indeed increase the likelihood of success, but it also makes them easier to detect, so you have to start using decoys, which in turn raises the possibility that your mission may be discovered and in the worse case scenario, captured or liquidated
-
'unless you can't find Vader or the Emperor. And that's frustrating. ' Well this is interesting. From the Imperial point ( my Imperial opinion that is!!!) of view it is a dangerous move to start using the Emperor early on on diplomatic missions. I usually have him recruiting like mad on Coruscant, safe behind LNRs, Gencores, espionage droids ( who are constantly doing missions on Coruscant ), and plenty of Stormtroopers....with of course several Imperial commados and Noghri Death squads in his back pocket in case the Rebels are foolhardy enough to try to get him . Vader is used to do diplomatic missions on important planets and the odd recruiting drive. And damn....I cant work out how the quote function works
-
Yes Ric......many summers ago I was a tank gunner in the Houseold Cav. But anyway back to the topic!!!! In the rule book it states that a char on a diplomatic mission that succeeds gets between a one and two point boost to his dip ability. I just wondered if anyone knew if the 'slide' had any bonus effects. I've always forgot to check

What are your favorite strategy games besides Rebellion?
Imperator replied to igorimp's topic in Outside Interests
Here is my two ha'penny's worth:- CivI, II & III Railroad Tycoon II Talonsofts Battle of Britain Imperialism II Hearts of Iron Europa Universalis II Uncommon Valour Silent Hunter II Panzer General II But at the top of the list by ALONG way is Supremacy ( Rebellion in the rest of the world!! ) I also played World in Flames in my youth ( no jokes SOCL ), but now stick mostly to computer moderated games. -
I think Evader99's thought on giving the AI a 1000 day would come close to doing this.. although I am not that brave!!!! The game though really comes into its own playing a another human opponent. The AIs strategy is too predictable. I know not everyone has the opportunity to do this ( time, money etc ) , but since I've upgraded my ISP I've found its worked out not only cheaper but more fun. Human opponents are by definition unpredictable, allowing the game to go off in all different directions, and opening up whole new areas of strategic ideas, plans and downright deviousness. That the game allows this shows its broad scope and depth as a masterful Strategic/ Operational & Tactical masterpiece!!! All Hail Rebellion ( or Supremacy as its called in this dark Sector of the Empire!!)
