When I sent my diplomacy dudes out to various "blue" planets, in most cases my opponent spotted the progress, and tried to capture him But if you use the Carrarcks for transportation, you always have a chance to flee quickly. Fleets are more essential in multiplayer. With good combination of ships, you can win a game. But with a few huge ISD fleets, you're doomed.
