SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted December 20, 2003 SWR Staff - Executive Share Posted December 20, 2003 Only one word fits this movie: beautiful. I saw it on the big IMAX screen the day after the release. Just an awesome movie. This will be THE fantasy movie to win awards. SOCL
I saw the movie yesterday and it was great! Actually, great doesn't come close to describing it. I, a not-Lord of the Rings fan, enjoyed it thoroughly. I went in with my doubts (and fears...it's 3 hours and 20 minutes long!), but I came out very pleased! To move on, I want to comment on a few things I saw in the movie. If you haven't seen it yet: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! GO SEE IT! Well, and if you haven't seen it yet, you may not want to read on (some very minor spoilers to follow). First: During the fighting with the giant elephants, did anyone else think: "Use your harpoons and tow-cables!"? Second: When Legolas jumps up on one of the giant elephants and pulls a "bad guy" off the animals back, did anyone else notice the infamous scream? Third: Now, I must say, this kind of pissed me off. When the King of Rohan (however it's spelled) was dying and his daughter rushes to his side, there was a part where--word for word--it was Vader and Luke on the second Death Star! Fourth (& last): Frodo and Sam, finally get into Mordor (sp?) and are forced to dress in Ork (sp?) armor... All I thought was: "Aren't you a little short to be a stormtrooper?" ...so what does this tell us? Well, obviously, there were some SW rips in there and Director Peter Jackson is, it seems, a Star Wars fan. Star Wars is everywhere, my friends...even Middle Earth. Trejiuvanat
I watched it today. IT IS A GREAT MOVIE!!! There's hardly more you can say about it. It's a film to be enjoyed. As for SOCL's comments, I thought about some of them, particularly the Éowyn-Théoden dialogue reminded me of ROTJ. As did Frodo and Sam in their "Orctrooper" outfit... the_mask
Didn't notice the infamous scream... Shame on you, man. Even DarkForces had it. What did Ben Burtt call it ? The Walter, or something ? It was a name, that much I'm sure of 5 hours ? That won't fit on 2 dvds, like the first two movies. Oh jeez, 3 dvds for one movie. That means you also get a free exercise each time you watch the movie http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif

Texas_Fett
5...hours...long... Yes, 5 delightful, wonderful, hours of...of...the precioussssss... By the way, Texas_Fett, I found your signature quite amusing! Where did you get it? Sadly enough, I have much of the dialogue of Clue memorized. That's what happens when you're a military brat living overseas and there's only one television channel in which you can understand the language; you tend to watch a LOT of movies. However, just to make sure I got the quote right, I did a quick Google search for Clue quotes and I got several sites. I did have to 'trim' it up a bit to make it fit within the signature character limits, but it's all good. Here's a couple of sites if you're interested in the movie:http://www.zoicite.com/clue/movie.htmlhttp://www.cluedofan.com/movie/movie.htmhttp://www.jonathanlynn.com/films/clue/clue.htm Five of the Greatest Lines in the Star Wars Trilogy -"As you wish..."-"He's no good to me dead..."-"What if he doesn't survive? My father is currently in the Army, but has been in the Navy and Marine Corps (along with doing liaison work with the Air Force and Coast Guard). Where have you been stationed? Texas_Fett
Army, Navy and Marine Corps? In that order? Dang, that's a man I'd hate to mess with! And he rounded it out with the Air Force and Coast Guard doing liason work too, huh? And I thought it was tough just getting used to working with two branches of the service... No, my father was an officer in the Air Force. We were stationed at Holloman AFB, New Mexico, Spangdahlem AFB, Germany, Zaragoza AFB, Spain, Brooks AFB, San Antonio, Texas, and Cannon AFB, New Mexico. I didn't make the trip to Cannon, though (thankfully; it's not the end of the world, but you can see it from there ), since I'd graduated from High School, I'd been accepted to the local University already, and my Army Reserve unit was here in San Antonio. It's kinda weird though; I've grown up being used to moving every 2-3 years to a different state or country, yet I've now lived in San Antonio for 13 years now ( ). But my wife is an Air Force brat, too, so we compensate for that urge to pick up and move by rearranging the furniture in the house. So anyway, I finished my stint with the Army Reserves in 2000 (I got out as a Sergeant E-5), finally finished my degree, and am now attempting to get my commission in the Air Force as a Navigator. We'll see how that all goes, but I've had some glowing letters of recommendation from my former OIC's and NCOIC's, I scored pretty well on the AFOQT. The next board is in April, so we'll see!
