it has a high tendency to crash going into or coming out of space combat :( :( :( the best part of the game... the moment we've all been waiting for...

ANYWAY... has anybody heard of this before and know of any ideas to fix it. i have a radeon 9700 with latest drivers (as if that should really matter!). also, i tried running it in win95 compatibility mode + force 640x480 resolution & the crashes still happen :(

any help would be much appreciated. tia! =)

TK's right... Unless there's something wrong with your copy of XP, your OS doesn't cause it to crash. I believe I have heared before that the game crashed with certain newer graphics cards...

Mine crashes too with windows xp and a Radeon 9500 pro.

It crashes a lot less if it's in win95 compatability mode. I've just gotten into the habit of saving often.

It crashes once every 200 turns or so.

You're right Scath, this has been posted before. Also by a user with a new ATI card. Sorry to say this, but I'm glad my pcs and those of my relatives don't have any. I've had nothing but trouble back than with a Rage128 in my uncle's pc.

Anyways, try a new driver, or at least one that's called bug-free. What DirectX version do you use ?

I had problems with my ATI card too. JK3 crashed frequently.

Mask's right. I solved the problem by downloading the latest ATI driver for the card. Directx can't be a problem, unless it is damaged, or something...

Please post the results after you tried with new driver!!

Bug? You got the latest drivers for it? Isn't JKIII deesigned for directX 9.0 as well?

post 1400, hey only 100 to go until I'm also a Warlord and only another 500 after that until I can choose me new rank. Booyakasha :D

If JK3 crashed, Q3A and all the other games with that engine shouldn't have worked as well :(

Well, after that checkered experience with my uncle's ATI card, I bought a GF2 back then and now I got a GF4200Ti with 128Ram. So far everything looks good and runs smoothely :D

I don't mean to post an off-topic comment, but I thought you guys might be interested. Okay, I read through...well, tried reading through this topic to see if I could contribute in some way, but instead I found myself utterly perplexed. To anyone who doesn't know much about the technicalities and specifics of computers (i.e. me), this thread is basically Latin (unless you know Latin...then it's Greek :wink: ). Okay, sorry about that, but take a second and quickly read through this thread and I think you'll see what I mean. :D:wink:

Okay, sorry about that. As you were.

Well as long as you know what JK3 is, I wouldn't disturbed about that 8)

Basically its just a greek rant about how buggy the drivers of ATI cards can be :roll:

You see, there, I understood what you were saying, but the I can't find the subject to it because I have no idea what JK3 is and what ATI cards are. :?:lol:

It seems mask that you should be disturbed...

    JK3 = Jedi Knight III
    Q3A = Quake III Arena
    GF = GForce [Manufacturer of Video Cards]
    ATI = [Manufacturer of Video Cards]
    Radeon = [Manufacturer of Video Cards]

I use XP home and have been having problems with SWR crashing. I did some experimenting and discovered that the NAV Auto-Protect was responsible for the crashes. I started disabling it when playing SWR and for 2 weeks now it hasn't crashed on me...

XP and Nav 2k3 here, too. No problems ever, that's weird.

Did you have that recycle-bin function activated ? Cause I switched that off.

I turned it off and have had no problems so far maybe that was it. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
