Last time I asked the question, it was asking if FOC is better than the mods that are out. This time it will be different.

What makes FoC stand out among the crowd in terms of the other games that are out or are coming out soon? Does it stand up to the competition?

Many people will get the game simply because it is Star Wars, but there has to be a better reason than that. What does FoC offer for RTS fans that don't care if it is Star Wars, LOTR, or CnC? Does it have enough strategy(and variety)for those people?

I believe yes.

1. It's SW.

2. It's an expansion for a very good game. I was waiting for EAW since Rebellion came out.

3. More things like and the possibility to study better how to mod EAW.

4. I strongly believe that it's a luncher for other expansions for the SW galaxy and a sequel EAW II.

5. Many others but too much to be all written down here.

eh, it might be worth the money. With FOC star wars continuity was thrown out the window so don't expect anything in the game to be canon. It seems like a big mess of EU and prequel stuff just thrown into the game with the developers own made up monstrosities. The few worthwhile things I see in it are (A Things that should have been in the first game, TIE interceptor etc  :P

(B Improved gameplay, like seeing the ground map when you build defenses and whatnot

Other than that it's just a huge mod with advertising and story.

I think FoC will definitly be worth getting.  Take an already great game, and improve upon the weaknesses it currently has and that's what you will be gettting with FoC.  I think much of what it will improve is/was geared towards online game play.  A third faction and more units are a given.  What about more maps!?  I hear a total number of 40ish!!  That's going to be wonderful.  A ton of functionality such as replays, integrated clan matching, new ladders, and faction selection for quick match will also be an improvement.  I think this will bring back a lot of "old-timer" gamers who left after 1.03 or 1.04 were released also, which will strengthen the community and make it all the more worth the buy!

Modding is a big thing for me.

Also the enhanced AI will be another factor.

Also the new features, with the introduction of the corrupt side many new things will be possible. Giving sabotage to rebels and imperials, orbital bombardment, and numerous other things.

It's star wars.

The new multiplayer features are what you would expect of a new game not an expansion.

i agree for the whole stratergy part of SW lore being missing FOC and EAW fill the void nicely. because i mean RPG's and FPS's SW is sorted however before EAW was release i can only think of 2 SW games (one official and one unofficial) that have been released. thats Rebellion and then a Total Conversion mod for ST Armada 2.  FOC will be the game that EaW was meant to be but didn't become because of LEC interferance. with the addition of the Expansion i hope that the games over all stratergy will remain unchanged but it will add in things like Bribery and possibly the who Diplomatic side. as well as the ability to choose where you place building on the ground and which units you attack with first. i also think that the addition of a new Faction will make gameplay alot better than just the typical rebels vs. Empire the addition of the Zahnist faction means that we can now view the galactic battle from a different view point and when i first played EAW i wanted to try to play as the Pirates to see what it was like.

(i don't quite see how this topic is sticky worthy though? but as SWM has sticked it, it's not my place to unsticky it.)

I hope to see another exp after this. If they really listen to people then will improve the game much more.

I am happy also because is better to have a game and expansions than a huge game with all things in it whcih may be probably not well done. An expansion way of doing allow new things to be added and improvements added after listening to the community not to mention how the people may welcome the game itself.

yeah i mean loads of games get expansions AOE3, AOM, Civ 4, they've had expansions and are meant to rock. so why cant EaW do the same?

I see FoC as more a whole new game than an expansion, but either way its going to improve on a lot of things that needed it.  I won't play mods (no offense to the modders out there, takes a great deal of skills I don't possess to do that) because IMO, they rarely work 100% of the time (of course, neither does EaW...sad to say) and make the game unstable.  Not to mention that you can't play with everyone online unless they have the exact mod you have.  So playing FoC is the only way I'll ever see some of the units that will become available.  I also hope that synch errors are lessened with the new online interface.

It seems that quite a few people think that it is worth getting. But someone has yet to give a solid answer on what it has that the competition doesn't(besides the fact that it is SW).

As for me, I'm not sure whether or not it is worth getting. Right away at least. Sure, the original game was fun. But for how long? It got boring after a while. FoC will add some new units and a new faction. Oooh....big achievement.  ::)  Look at Medieval Total War 2. How many factions does that have?

My thoughts exactly, or almost exactly. It's just a bunch of new units and a faction and some new features, most of which should have been in the first one. So I kind of think of it as big huge patch combined with a mod.

The only new feature that seems worthwhile is orbital bombardment (which should have been in the first game ::) )

And is it canon? that's a big fat stinking NO!  :P If they tried to make FOC canon (which lucasfilm obviously will as they did with the single player campaign in SWBF2)  :P It would be ridiculous

You are right Dorkthehunter, I didn't address the actual question.  I don't think I'm the right person to do that either, as I don't really play as many games as most.  In fact the *only* games I am playing right now are SW games.

EaW is only boring if you play single player.  I play every night online with my clan and we have a blast.  I don't think it's as much the game it's self as the camradery.  More of you guys should come check it out online and play with us.  It's much more fun that way and human players are much more challenging that AI can ever be!  Most of the excitement I have about FoC is because of my multiplayer roots.

In the grand scheme of things does it stack up to the other games out there?  Probably not.  There are probably better game engines, probably better looking graphics, and probably better RTS systems to be had.  But the bottom line is it's the only SW RTS I have played thus far...which gives it a big plus in my book.  My hope is that FoC is going to correct many of the issues most players have had with the game.

I absolutely agree with Trawn. FOC is really worth getting.

I love EAW as it has given me what I have always dreamed : Space and land battles, settled in the SW universe. However I believe that much can be still done and by much i mean really a lot.

There are so many features that could be done that we will surely need at least EAW II and EAW III.

SW galaxy is huge and fans like me will get the game for sure. So Devs if you are reading those posts, be saure that we support you and we have faith that the idea of making a SW RTS is a really good one. Keep up the good work.

Petro are mostly ex C&C.They have given us the most enjoable and funny series of all times, the C&C series.I have all of them and never missed one. So please let EAW rock like C&C was!!!!! ;D ;)

I chose "only for multiplayer" but really that's just because that is my primary focus.  I couldn't say "definitly, it's SW" because I don't known all the SW games now.  I think overall my attitude is that it's going to be a pretty good game, but online play is my focus.

I'm looking forward to Foc solely for the modding potential. I heavily modded EAW and am looking forward to working with FOC. The whole third faction doesn't really interest me. After I try out the campaign, I'll probably divide the units between the Rebels and the Imperials. Time will tell.  ;)

After seeing pics of FOC in another topic here, I can say "I want FOC now!!!!!! Give it me now or I use the power of the Dark Side to kill you one by one!!" ;D

What is it about those pictures that seperates it from the other games? Someone please tell me this!
