How do interdictor cruisers fit into the game?

Recommended Posts

Hi a quick question about Interdictors.

I’m not in a position to play the demo at the moment but does the presence of an interdictor cruisers stop you from flying in reinforcements until it’s destroyed? I’m fairly certain it stops units from retreating from the battle, but it might be unbalancing if it also works the other way around.

Does anyone know?

The Interdictor is not in the demo, so no one can be absolutely sure of its abilities, but normally in Star Wars Interdictors dont stop reinforcements, they only make escaping impossible.

Btw good first post in the other topic there.

Interdictor Cruisers stop enemy Fleet from Retreating, unless the Interdictor Cruiser is Destroyerd or its Gravity Well Generators taken out, apart from the Gravity well Generators the Interdictors can also block Missile systems of the enemy, but i think the Missile Jamming isnt part in orginal EaW release but Gravity well Generators are deffinatly in as thats what thier primery Role is!

With the Missile Jamming im not sure if a moder put it on them or not, but my gues Interdictor can also Jam Missile systems so.

Interdictors can either block retreat of enemy fleets, or deflect incoming missiles away from nearby targets.  You'll find that interdictors are very important in multiplayer games, as missile-bombardment of your space station is a very frequent occurrence.

So they can't do both at the same time?  And are the gravity wells timed specials?

Hmmm, that might have been a miss-statement.  If not, I think it will be like the X-Foils ability of the X-Wings... on or off.. not timed.

Can you confirm that this is correct, Ishmael-PG?

Its an "on-off" ability like the S-foils. I played with it in the demo. It dies very quickly, so you gotta keep it well defended. You can do both at the same time too.

Ah, that is good to know.  Also another thing to note... the interdictor can not move while it has the abilities activated.

Frost1977, that is in SW universe, not EAW.

  • 2 weeks later...

Do Interdictors have an area of affect, or do they automatically jam everything in a system?

I know I've read in several EU sources that they are supposed to have a conical are of affect. That would force some interesting tactical decisions for both sides.

Given how small the space maps are, from the demo and the screenshots, the effect covers the entire map and is within canon.  The missle deflection is more localized.  Probably a bit smaller than the interdictors line of sight.

Interdictors also prevent reinforcements from being deployed by the rebels within a large area around them.

the interdictor's missle jamming ability does work, and it only REDUCES the accuracy of the missles, it doesnt short them out or whatever. I just played a mod allowing me to use and build the interdictor, it was in my main fleet. I found the missle jaming to be VERY helpful, especially since in this mod the rebels make around 7 Y-wing squadrons  :P (they have like 15 fighter squads total in their fleet)

My fleet of 5 venators, (That deploy V-wings yay) 2 Imperial Star Destroyers, 3 Acclimator class destroyers, and of course, my prized interdictor. (it looks so pretty) I conquored the entire galaxy with my fleet. Trust me, in the mod im playing, its hard to win over even ONE planet  ;)
