Just a note to say on the VSD, is that in the Tech setup, VSD's are available from lvl 1 iirc, and ISD's come in at lvl 4 tech as lvl 5 is Deathstar only tech, from what i sew in a screenshot from Galactic Conquest on a preview website, worthplaying.com i think, and it showed the tech tree overview that you can click for tech overview to at what lvl you get what tech.

They wouldn't have to!

It would be far too high in the atmosphere to see. All which would be required is for a sort of 'artillery' graphic of where the turbolasers actually hit. The user wouldn't have to physically see the craft in any way.

A huge shadow on the ground would do the job perfectly... That would be really neat to have orbital bombardment Like in Rebellion....but there should be a limit depending on wich map you are playing so people wont abuse it...

No ships take part in land battles aside from Bombing Runs (conducted by Y-Wings and Tie Bombers) and Land Speeders (not ships, but hey.) Tech Level 1 is the Acclamator Class which can deploy 3 fighter and 1 bomber squadrons. After that comes the Victory Class which deploys 5 fighters and 2 bomber squadrons. Lastly, the Imperial Class Destroyer can deploy 10 fighter and 3 bomber squadrons. Needless to say, Destroyers are the backbone of any fleet and must be escorted by Tartan Cruisers for anti-Fighter support and missile boats for point-attack against large targets. (This is all from the release version of the game)
