Stellar_Magic Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b191/Foshjedi2004/InSpace1.jpg What is the enormous bolt that destroys the ISD in the new trailer. I've got a sneaking suspicion that we've just seen the power of ground based weaponary in EAW. Anyone remember the LNR series from rebellion? Teradyn_pff Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Angle seems a bit off for it to be from the ground. My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
Stellar_Magic Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 Still, what weapon could the rebels have beside a ground based battery that could destroy an ISD in a single hit? Teradyn_pff Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 It may be just that we saw the final blow to an already crippled ISD.... makes me wonder if they have damage models for their ships. I hope they do, but..... We also thought for sure it would be through ep VI, so you never know. The Relentless Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 No, there's nothing wrong with the angle. The something-effect (curse you, language barrier!) enables that shot to come from the planet's surface. I think that bolt may well come form an ion cannon. At least I hope so. Go Leafs go!
Swiftdraw Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 I agree with Teradyn. Maybe it was already critically damaged and the Neb B behind it finished it off. I'm now teh lurker.http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/swiftdraw.png
Stellar_Magic Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 We've seen damage modeling in the other trailers, this ship appears to be completely untouched however... I still think its a shot from a ground side battery. Logain Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 no ground based laser cannon could take a ISD down in one shot it took the DSII to take out a moncal cruiser down in one blast, and they're just as heavily shielded
Zer_Teron Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 The DSII cut through the Mon Cals like a Butchers knife to butter, it did not need to use its immense power. There was other weapons that could destroy them in one blast http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3488/zersigef1.jpg
Nevets Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Looks like, whatever it is hit the "sensory domes" and blew it up. you know what this means, not only do they take down the shields, they also blow up the ship competely just joking
Garbageben Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 We've seen damage modeling in the other trailers, this ship appears to be completely untouched however... I still think its a shot from a ground side battery. From the angle I'd tend to agree with you Stellar. There is no way that shot could have come from the Neb. B. because if you back track where is comes from then there is no way it could have fired it and gotten that far ahead before the laser hits. Also the angling is up and to the right, which would make it possible that it came from the surface of the planet. http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sh/type/0/garbageben.png
Swiftdraw Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Or a fighter, or another cap ship off screen. Could just be from a x-wing firing of some rounds that missed and passed real close to the are aof the shot. I'm now teh lurker.http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/swiftdraw.png
Nevets Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Hmm just watched the trailer again, it appears that the laser doesn't even hit the ISD, and also the engines look to by on fire.

AH your using my MSN display picture!!!! jokes aside maybe its from a Mon Calimari winged ship ? -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
JanGaarni Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 The shot definatly does not come from the planet. It doesn't even hit the ship. Obviously it's from a ship behind camera, as the bolt is coming from behind and traveling away from the camera. It does go parallell to the axis of the star destroyer, but it's such a blurry bolt, that it's clearly close to the camera, which gives it the impression it's a large bolt. Since the bolt is rather short, I'll bet good money it comes from nothing larger than a star fighter. http://www.lfnetwork.com/images/lfnlinker.gifStar Wars: Empire at War.Net Moderator&SWGalaxies Moderator Co-Leader of The Affiliates! -A-- What we do in life, echoes in eternity!- May the pants be with you!
Darkmark Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 The SD does seem to take some fire from the right hand side of the screen, but nothing I could see as inflicting that kind of damage. I don't see any attack from the Neb-B. The red shot passes the wrong way, so it isn't that... There's a green explosion on the underside of the ship from what I could tell, and while moving it seems it could be from the planet below. With such a quick glimpse it's hard to tell. Then again, it's possible they adjusted the stats of that SD to make it explode for only a cinematic effect, specifically for that second trailer. Whatever did hit it though packs one hell of a punch. Phantom_pff Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 The DSII cut through the Mon Cals like a Butchers knife to butter, it did not need to use its immense power. There was other weapons that could destroy them in one blast the expression is "like a hot knife though butter" (culinary student, i should know) anyway, it looks like i came from another cap ship of screen, but there are ground based ion canons you can build in the game.
Dorkthehunter Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 The blast was probably a stray bolt from the cruiser that just destroyed the Star Destroyer. CTrooper1 Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Umm am i the only one here that happens to rember that you can build a ion cannon? lol
AT-AP Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Could be an ion cannon shot, could also be from one of the larger cannons on Mon Cal ships. IIRC, the biggest bolts fired in ROTJ were approx the length of an ISD. (And destroyed one when its shields were down) http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a242/CptK/StarCruiser.jpg
Dorkthehunter Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Umm am i the only one here that happens to rember that you can build a ion cannon? lol Umm am i the only one here that happens to remember that the ion cannon doesn't destroy ships! The ion cannon disables! The SD is destroyed right after it is "hit" (or missed) by the red bolt of doom! It couldn't have been the ion cannon. Teradyn_pff Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 How they model the Ion cannons is anybody's guess however. They put the shield generators outside of the shields! Teradyn_pff Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Hmmm, should have phrased my post more carefully. I am stating that we don't know whether or not ion canons will do any structural damage or only disable systems and/or shields. Dorkthehunter Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 http://swempireatwar.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=110 Look at that. The picture with the shield generator specs shows that you can build a "turbolaser tower" So you can have planetary turbolasers and ion cannons. But if you destroy the power generator, they go offline.[/img] Protecting the world from those who have an IQ higher than 30! Huzzah! Trust me...I'm a professional.
