What is the enormous bolt that destroys the ISD in the new trailer. I've got a sneaking suspicion that we've just seen the power of ground based weaponary in EAW. Anyone remember the LNR series from rebellion?

Still, what weapon could the rebels have beside a ground based battery that could destroy an ISD in a single hit?

It may be just that we saw the final blow to an already crippled ISD.... makes me wonder if they have damage models for their ships. I hope they do, but..... We also thought for sure it would be through ep VI, so you never know.

We've seen damage modeling in the other trailers, this ship appears to be completely untouched however...

I still think its a shot from a ground side battery.

The DSII cut through the Mon Cals like a Butchers knife to butter, it did not need to use its immense power. There was other weapons that could destroy them in one blast

From the angle I'd tend to agree with you Stellar. There is no way that shot could have come from the Neb. B. because if you back track where is comes from then there is no way it could have fired it and gotten that far ahead before the laser hits. Also the angling is up and to the right, which would make it possible that it came from the surface of the planet.

The shot definatly does not come from the planet.

It doesn't even hit the ship.

Obviously it's from a ship behind camera, as the bolt is coming from behind and traveling away from the camera. It does go parallell to the axis of the star destroyer, but it's such a blurry bolt, that it's clearly close to the camera, which gives it the impression it's a large bolt.

Since the bolt is rather short, I'll bet good money it comes from nothing larger than a star fighter. ;)

The SD does seem to take some fire from the right hand side of the screen, but nothing I could see as inflicting that kind of damage. I don't see any attack from the Neb-B. The red shot passes the wrong way, so it isn't that...

There's a green explosion on the underside of the ship from what I could tell, and while moving it seems it could be from the planet below. With such a quick glimpse it's hard to tell.

Then again, it's possible they adjusted the stats of that SD to make it explode for only a cinematic effect, specifically for that second trailer.

Whatever did hit it though packs one hell of a punch.

the expression is "like a hot knife though butter" (culinary student, i should know) anyway, it looks like i came from another cap ship of screen, but there are ground based ion canons you can build in the game.

The blast was probably a stray bolt from the cruiser that just destroyed the Star Destroyer.

Could be an ion cannon shot, could also be from one of the larger cannons on Mon Cal ships. IIRC, the biggest bolts fired in ROTJ were approx the length of an ISD. (And destroyed one when its shields were down)

Umm am i the only one here that happens to rember that you can build a ion cannon? lol

Umm am i the only one here that happens to remember that the ion cannon doesn't destroy ships! The ion cannon disables! The SD is destroyed right after it is "hit" (or missed) by the red bolt of doom! It couldn't have been the ion cannon.

Hmmm, should have phrased my post more carefully. I am stating that we don't know whether or not ion canons will do any structural damage or only disable systems and/or shields.

Look at that. The picture with the shield generator specs shows that you can build a "turbolaser tower" So you can have planetary turbolasers and ion cannons. But if you destroy the power generator, they go offline.[/img]
