Naja Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Is it true that space battles can take place adjacent to nebulae, as well as in planetary orbits? Or was that simply a misinterpretation of something in an interview?
Nevets Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I don't think I have heard anything about nebulas being ingame, just asteroids fields. I don't know about you, but nebulas don't come off as the most star warsy thing anyway.
Zer_Teron Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Sure they do, remeber the Cauldron Nebula, and yes im pretty sure ive seen something like that in the screenshots http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3488/zersigef1.jpg
Makwu Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 i think nebulas are in the space combat map by the planet. Rather than just in the middle of nowhere.
NightmareKato Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Usually they're part of a system. Remember Dark Nest I, Leia Organa Solo and Han Solo stumbled across an uncharted region with a large planetary nebula - over 12 inhabitable planets in that area. So yes, a nebula could be part of a system, or region. Plus you can fly into nebulas in Star Wars Galaxies. But those are usually of a smaller scale, and are used as "cover".
Grand Moff Joyce Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 It would be good to have Nebula. Like the Ison corridor in RS:II. It would be great to have rebels ambush the Empire in Nebula's. The new age of the Empire has come!
Swiftdraw Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Do even some of ya'll know what a nebula is? I'm now teh lurker.http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/swiftdraw.png
Holly-Gan Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 I dunno, isn't it this? (displayed in mini-map?)http://www.swg-fr.com/screen/eaw-e32005/15.jpg This is my sig. There are many like it, but this one is mine.http://www.petrolution.net/PetrolutionButton.gifhttp://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/hollygun.png
Darkmark Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Do even some of ya'll know what a nebula is? For those who don't... a nebula is basically dust and gas in space. Because of the various gasses, they are often brightly coloured when lit up by neighbouring stars. The word nebula is also Latin for 'mist'... And the big swirl on the minimap is basically the spiral of a galaxy (one far, far away), not of a nebula. To be a nebula that size is... well, would make it ridiculous. "And the moral of the story is: Appreciate what you've got, because basically; I'm fantastic." ~ Holly, Red Dwarfhttp://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y143/Lord_Darkmark/Forcedbanner01.jpghttp://www.starwarsforced.co.uk
Grand Moff Joyce Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Do you think the Ison Corridor Nebula would be a nice touch to the game? The new age of the Empire has come!
Holly-Gan Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Ah okay, now I know what it is! Like in that mission in Rogue Squadron 2 where you had to defend some transports or such in a big "foggy" or well as you call it Nebula from Imperial TIEs. This is my sig. There are many like it, but this one is mine.http://www.petrolution.net/PetrolutionButton.gifhttp://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/hollygun.png
Grand Moff Joyce Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 well as you call it Nebula They it is a Nebula in the level. Also what about that misson in Rebel Strike where you had to take out those TIE Hunters? It looked like a Neubula. The new age of the Empire has come!
Ghostly_Substance Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Nebulas or at least space dust is in game and will effect your ships and drain the shields so be careful. Whats good about it is that you can ambush enemy ships if your shields are top notch. Well Little.B tried it out on the demo in Germany and I think he said it was effective or somethign like that. In jump to light speed thye had this feature where you could recharge components but I tried it and my ship had to restart everything and I think I was in a battle also. (Ok can someone seriously fix this submit button bug where it shows me i'm previewing ) -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Delphi-PG Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 s it true that space battles can take place adjacent to nebulae, as well as in planetary orbits? Yes, players can fight in and around nebulas. When ships enter a Nebula sight range is limited, special abilities are temporarily offline and of course ships disappear from radar. Naja Posted October 29, 2005 Author Posted October 29, 2005 What I meant though is are nebulas independant of planetary orbits (like in between planets), or are they just another component of them?
Jmaster3265 Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 I am kind of confused are soem of these planets mentioned even from star wars the movies? I have been hearing there might be EU chars, and planets.... http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/1135/jmaster3265signew13rd.jpg
Delphi-PG Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 What I meant though is are nebulas independant of planetary orbits (like in between planets), or are they just another component of them? They are just a component of space tactical game-play. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
CTrooper1 Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 I think a nebulae would be great cover for your capital ships after a battle considering that the ships dissapere from radar posably giving the person enough time to build more units.
Nevets Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 Hmm, does seem like nebula will add to galactic strategy, which is always a plus. I wonder which star systems will have them tho. I also wonder if the Maw will be an area.
CommandoGamer Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Thats a good idea but i remember a space game called conquest frontier wars had those nebulas but the probelm with the ships were they were moveing slow to slow when they were near a nebula but still it was pretty fun haveing those nebulas and would like to see them again in SW:EAW.
Holly-Gan Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Talking about space 'obstacles', what happens in asteroid fields etc? This is my sig. There are many like it, but this one is mine.http://www.petrolution.net/PetrolutionButton.gifhttp://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/hollygun.png
CTrooper1 Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Talking about space 'obstacles', what happens in asteroid fields etc? From what i have heard if your ships get to close to an asteroid feid and hit some asteroids it will damage your ship. I think its cool though bec it shows how detailed the game is and will be.
Garbageben Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 s it true that space battles can take place adjacent to nebulae, as well as in planetary orbits? Yes, players can fight in and around nebulas. When ships enter a Nebula sight range is limited, special abilities are temporarily offline and of course ships disappear from radar. Wow that's great news. Thanks Delphi http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sh/type/0/garbageben.png
Nevets Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Talking about space 'obstacles', what happens in asteroid fields etc? Delphi said that usually ships will automatically go around asteriod fields, but if you want to get somewhere quickly you can go right through them, but your ships will take damage.
