Star destroyer landing on planets...

There isn;t a massive amount of energy dispersal as Thrawn was able to get the Chimaera to do very accurate bombardment of Honoghr to prove a point in DFR.

Thanks Fosh, that sorta clears up the issue.

About orbital bombardment:

There is an Imperial command code, Base Delta Zero, which pretty much means that the entire planetsurface be bombarded into molten slag. Supposedly, 1 ISD is enough to do the work in a matter of hours.

About landing star destroyers:

The Victory Class star destroyer is the largest class that is able to enter an atmosphere, but it is incapable to land on the surface. Oceanic landings might be feasible though. :)

Um, Jan, better tell Petroglyph that, and QUICK!

things like this aren't Petro's fault. Its LEC who can't keep track of their own timeline and such. Petro has to go along with what LEC tells them. If LEC tells them things that are wrong (based on their own accounts) then what is Petro to do? Research the facts and shove them in their producers face? Hardly.

Heh, was meant as a joke mostly. And I know that LEC is the main culprit here. They can't keep anything straight it seems and it gets really bad when it comes to games. Dome shield generators on Star Destroyers anyone?

The Acclamator like we saw in Ep 2 CAN land dude. I simply state a way it can be done if it can't already.

And I'm simply saying that if, keyword here is if, it is already stated it cannot, then that's that. End of discussion.

If then someone comes out and claims it can, then he or she is going to be arrested on that faster than you can say "You shouldn't have said that".

They could bring in Curtis Saxton as an advisor.

I'm sure he would straighten out any inconsitancies. :D

Then tell me, why can the ones in Ep 2 land? I'm thinking as a modder. If it isn't ingame(the Acclamator landing) I'm going to put it in there for sake of it being shown in the movie.

Oh, I see what you mean there. :)

We were arguing about 2 different things now. :D

Sorry, my bad.

But you get my point still, right?

If not, replace the word Acclamator with VSD.

And Fosh, yes it would. :D

No no, I started the missunderstanding. :D

When I said "Not if it's stated it cannot". :)

That's when this whole missunderstanding started. ;)

So you're pretty much in the clear here.

Any hint of defensive fire from the landing craft? And/or can they be destroyed by AA fire? From the videos it looked like they just popped in and out really fast and the AA may not have time to take them out before the troops are out. I can't remember whether or not the landing craft are actual ships that were in space or not. When vader was dropped he came out of a Lambda Class Shuttle it looked like. Which on a scale setting would be about the size of 4 xwings maybe?

Maybe individual units come off the cap ship this way and regular troops come off the persistant ships in orbit, but I don't remember if this had been specified.

The transports are actual ships you can see in space.

So a good tactic I would assume would be to leave the transport behind at a friendly, nearby planet and then bring them to the planet you want to capture ones your forces has delt with any defence orbiting the planet.

Ah, but can you do that? Can you occupy a planet and then drop say one transport at a time?

This is the scenario I am thinking of:

Empire comes in and blockades a planet. Resistance is light and soon there are no rebel space ships.

Does the view switch immediately to the ground or does it go back to galaxy view?

Could an enemy fleet show up in the middle of the battle?

We don't really have a good grasp of the dynamics of a battle I think.

If you win the space battle but have only 1 transport left, are you forced to land it or can you just occupy space?

Ugggh. Makes strategies hard to think about because there are so many questions and ways it could go.

The logical choise would be to make the ground attack and space attack 2 seperate attack commands. Obviously, moving your ships from 1 friendly planet to an unfriendly one would result in automatical armed space combat if enemy space forces are present in orbit. If you figure that this is not a battle you can win, or will result in un-acceptable casualties, then you have the option to retreat.

But maybe Delphi can shed some light on this?

I'm not sure I understand what sort of game dynamics this RTS will follow anymore. ;)

How will you do that if a combat ship landing is not possible in the retail? You thinking about just replacing the standard troop carrier model with it?
