I hope there is no SSD equivalent in Empire at War unless it's something already established in the Star Wars universe. It's senseless to invent something in such a large scale which would've obviously been mentioned at one point by someone as a method to counter SSDs.

In fact, it has long been known that SSDs are an inefficient starship design. A few Star Destroyers together can replace its role and the fleet would be cheaper, more powerful, and more versatile. Really, the SSDs were nothing more than a show of the Emperor's limitless power and his desire to waste galactic resources.

I bet that those Petroglyph folks frequent this site, or at least have at one point. They've been bound to see one of our...numerous...SSD threads.

I strongly agree. The heaviest a Rebel starship should be is a Mon Cal. As someone said, "cookie cutter" match-ups between two opponents' units are very dull and unoriginal. Starcraft strongly alleviated that by having three very diverse, yet very balanced factions, and I would like to think that the Petroglyph folks are aiming in this direction. Hell, I'm sure they grew up alienating their girlfriends and quitting their jobs as soon as Starcraft came out, just like a bunch of us did.

I think this is as much as we know:

The New Order

Strengths: More starting planets, strong capital ships, numerical superiority (TIEs, stormies), Death Star!

Weaknesses: Not subtle, starfighters are plain crap, vulnerable to hit and run raids, loss of a super weapon is crippling

The Alliance to Restore the Republic

Strengths: Ubiquitous spy network, strong and hyperdrive-equipped starfighters, elite forces

Weaknesses: Less starting planets, limited amount of strong capital ships, limited forces at first

I would say that that's balanced enough for me.

Yeah, that was the nice thing about starcraft it wasnt the same units with different looks it was 3 very unique and distinct races with +'s and -'s for each anyway, was the bulwark battlem cruiser more powerful than an SSD? Thats what my strategy guide for SWR says. Thanks! Oh and by the way.. Unlimited SSD's all the way! :D

SSD wont make it :( Ive lost faith

Don't you fool. But don't get your expectations too high either; that is an even greater act of foolery.

Sorry, I'm influenced by your sig.

I am confident it'll make it. By the way nice sig but when one of the moderaters sees it they'll prolly make you change it, still pretty funny.

The only possible reason I can think of as to why Petroglyph wouldn't have an SSD is because (they decide) that it didn't fit within the III-IV timeline era. Which is bunk, if you ask me, because I believe the Executor in Star Wars lore was launched just after the Battle of Yavin - indicating that a: it was under construction at least before episode IV, b: the Empire long had it on its drawing board. Let's just hope our guys read their expanded universe novels. Otherwise, they might decide that the SSD was an episode V thing.

I still can't see why it is nessicary. For its size, the Executor class SSD was incredibly under-gunned and didn't even hold that much stuff (like TIE squadrons and ground assault forces.) I can't see the use of a command vessel either (which was its effective role) unless you gain some pretty good fleet bonuses like quicker hyperspace travel, or better accuracy because of improved communications.

I thought it went from (III-IV) to EU. It doesnt just go from III to IV.

Well it doesn't really matter either way it allows for an executor!

because it will fulfill all my hopes and dreams

Actually if the death star works like it does in Rebellion it will be a great asset, in SWR it increased Imperial support on every system of the sector it was in, but it was more of a political tool than a "Planet Blower-Upper" destroying a planet has little/no tactical value. But it was Extremely expensive.

Swiftdraw is against SSDs? We must eliminate him/her. SSD has to be in the game, tactical advantage or not. It's the very symbol of Imperial power. (Right after the DS of course) The SSD might not be such a tactical vessel, but it should still be the most powerful ship by far. It should be more like a morale booster for the Imperials and a fear-creating enforcer. It would be easier to win battles when your Stormies fight with high morale and the rebel soldiers fight with low morale. So, the SSD should be in as the most powerful ship, and an effective morale booster.
Go Leafs go!

If the Executor and/or its ilk are indeed in the game, I wonder how they're going to scale it. Most books (and the movie canon!) show the Executor being MASSIVE in comparison to a regular ISD. Almost 11 times as long. Wheras in the X-Wing series of video games, it's only a mere 3-4 times as long. I honestly don't care about that technicality as long as it's in.

Hell, maybe some ambitious modder will put it in if Petroglyph doesn't. But I'm hoping that it doesn't have to come to that. I'm hoping that they cave in to our sordid desires, hee hee.

Hmmm. Our wishes may not come to pass. A Lack of B-wing and TIE interceptors show us that. I am sad that there appears to be such a lack of Interstellar warships. I mean so far we have seen like 7. Where's the Lancer Frigate?? Where's the TIE interceptor and Defender??? More Importantly for the Imperials WHERES THE @~:@~: Super Star Destroyer???
