The fires are expected to burn for the rest of the week if not more ... and the reports coming out are just scarey, it's like hell unleashed. 135 comfirmed dead with people saying it will go over 200. Seeing the aftermath .. no words describe it, brick houses burnt to the ground, cars burnt out with puddles of metal under them. The instense fires, reaching 35 metres in the air, produced enough radiant heat to kill you from 130 metres away. Someone reported that the paint used to line the roads was on fire. I'm interested in seeing what sort of aid we can start fundraising for for you Australians, and what charity groups would be the best to send it through. Any suggestions for what's wanted? Bottled water, bandages, burn salve, etc? We meet tomorrow, so promptness will get this resolved quicker. Sorry to not think of it sooner. Any other forum members with ideas for what would be helpful are welcome. I still need to figure out who to send any charity stuff we raise to. Shipping costs will be more expensive than any needed supplies you would collect, and therefore a total waste of funds. Also, with $ the correct and needed items can be acquired locally and quicker I would suggest the Austrailian Red Cross as they are already involved with helping those in need in the area. It appears they have a specific donation site just for the fire victims (usually the Red Cross will put donations toward a specific cause if specified, otherwise it goes to the general fund). Of course, that's likely because I was ten years old at the time. The highlights of the trip were the M&Ms building, any place with A/C, and getting kicked out of Ceaser's Palace for pointing out that the "decorative mirrors" were set up perfectly so that the house could see what the Poker players had, but the poker players couldn't see what the house had. That, and we corrected the grammar on a few of the strip club signs. "That's shouldn't read "girl's, girl's, girl's." Those apostrophes are superfluous! Darth_Rob Posted February 21, 2009 Share Posted February 21, 2009 One of the most ridiculous parts of the trip was the fact that there are troves of men handout out what I like to call "Stripper Trading Cards" to anyone who passed...men and women, young and old, etc. Basically it was a card with a mostly naked "lady of the night" on the front and the number to call her on the back, along with her "stats." It was hilarious to see these being given out, and even more so by the fact that they tried to give them to 10-year olds and 70-year olds. Im leaving tonight (Saturday) and I get back to NY early Sunday morning. It was a very fun trip. I already called my friend back home (who is going to be the best man at my wedding) and we are planning to have my bachelor party out here next year!!!
