Well, I was going to send you some Eagle, but the postage was incredibly expensive so I had to give it a miss

It's a nicer 35 today. Summer sure has come late for us, not a month ago I was wearng a jumper. What tops it off, is our aircon isn't very effective (barelly cooling half of upstairs let alone any of downstairs), and at night the parents turn it off and open the windows. Last night was about 26-27 inside :(

Hmm, usually? Usually this time of year it's around 30 or so for Melbourne .. which I don't like as well  40 is high, 40 for several days in a row is a heat wave. Apparently it's been over a 100 years since we've had a heat wave like this in Melbourne. Same time last year, Adeliade (capital city of the state next door) had 5 days of 40+ in a row.

@Rob: Ah, that's a shame. Still, Aus and NZ have some nice areas in the Winter too - nice snow slopes, mountain ranges etc. Anywho, I'm sure where-ever you go you'll have a great honeymoon

Irony- just a week or two ago, Florida had its coldest weather in 100 years or so. There was snow outside one morning. Snow. In Florida. In central Florida- madness. I mean, here it never goes below 0C (32 F), so when that happened, it was just nuts. I had to scrape ice off of my car in the morning instead of wiping water off.

On a related note, that cold front has passed, and now we're just experiencing brisk weather at best- it's hovering around the sixties, never really sticking with one range of values beyond 60-69.

Really!?

Well consider this that I am already long enough here to know my mates over here good enough to know where they do come from. I just thought that these high temperatures are normal over there in summer. ;)

Who cares at all?!

And Tofu thought he was the only one who can make random videos.

Granted, Tofu's are better. Much better. Much, much better.

These are just some videos of me being extremely retarded with no direction or rational explanation.

Since when were my videos intelligent? And since when did they include any semblance of direction or rational explanation? I wrote the scripts and directed those things. I know for a fact that there was no direction or rational explanation for any of it. For God's sake, the Teletubies owned the Mafia in one of them!

8O That guy died on my birthday! 8O

He's just another fallen hero, the dark poet. If you haven't heard of him before Tofu, I recommend that you listen to some of his stuff. It's quiet good and still relevant today. He's been compared to the late George Carlin during his day for the way he did his comedy and for his point of view that he put across. He didn't really agree with that view, but didn't seem to mind it either. Look on Youtube for some of his stuff - his live show in England was recorded and at least use to be on youtube in parts. Revelations, I think it was called. I should point out a lot people seem to get offended, and he can be "off colour" with his humour. I say grow up and learn what a joke and point of view is

http://www.billhicks.com is also a starting place.

On a different note, what a crap day. Got to 46.4 in the city and a top of 47.9 (118.2) in the state. But, the fires have been the worst, there's a lot burning and my dad and i have been trying to brave the heat just to patrol once or twice. We've been lucky, further out east from us there's a massive blaze going, weather radar is picking up the smoke from the main fire as clouds. Sigh, the joys of living in the bush.

EDIT: Not sure how long this'll last:http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR022.loop.shtml

Usually that shows clouds and rain ... today that's smoke.

Yikes! Looks like the bush is not the place to be right now. Here's hoping everything turns out alright for you, mate. When I finish my FAFSA forms, I'll give Bill Hicks a looksie.

Yeah, I'm fine. The closest fire got within 3-4 kms from home, which was a bit un-nerving wondering if the wind would change and send it up a hill it was burnnig at the base of and straight at us. There was another, smaller one, about 2 kms in the opposite direction, but it seemed to be the least threatening.

The weather has changed for the better for inner and coastal victoria, cool change and the occational shower so I'm not too woried for my house and family today. Further out, things are still really bad with massive blazes burning in roughly 9 places with countless smaller ones (my brother's working on a program that takes the CFA and DSE (fire fighting units) website's RSS feed and throws down the fire locations on a map, and it was mind numbing to see the state covered in markers). Some of the greatest problems yesterday were the gale force winds that were fanning these massive blazes. There was some footage on the news of a grass fire front racing up a hill faster than you could hope to run - that was scary to watch, the idea that if you'd decided to stay and fight that there was little to do, and little to help yourself if you were in the way.

Another clip was a of a bloke who parked on the side of the road to walk 10 metres to talk to a camera crew only to turn around and see the fire which was no-where in site before except for the smoke jumping the road 10-20 metres behind his car. He foolishly ran back for the car, and got away alright. He was lucky, so far there's a comfirmed 35 dead from the fires, including a family of 6 found in what remains of their car :(

We've got a rough plan for fires here, but without a water tank and a pump there's only so much you can do. Our property is at the bottom of a valley with a creek, so it's in a good place for fire protection. But, we also back onto a national park, so there's a lot of plant life in there that would create a massive blaze. Yesterday, short of putting out embers there'd have been nothing we could have done for our house. We were protected from a lot of the wind, so there's a chance the ferrocity of the fire wouldn't have gotten to us, but with the ambient temperature being 42 out my back door, and upto almost 48 further north, trying to fight a fire would still be damned near impossible. I have no idea how the CFA (Country Fire Authority) managed to work yesterday, I know in a few cases large fronts could only be water bombed even though the terrain was flat and open (grass fire only) it was just too hot.

EDIT: 65 dead now. God, what a way to die. One of the worst they've shown was a group of cars that piled up due to the dense smoke and before they got out the their cars the fire engulfed them. :( Turning into a really shitty weekend. Haven't heard of anyone I know losing a house yet, though there's a friend of my mum's, who's daughter's house was in the fire line. I think they said 600+ houses are destroyed and the fires are still going, and will go for a lot longer. At least a week. I heard one station say that there was an 80km wide fire front.

I drove down the road today to have a quick look at where that fire I was worried about got to. Scared the shit out of me, a hell of a lot closer than I thought. The firies managed to save a house in threat (I honestly don't know how, everywhere around the house is burnt) and stop it a little bit after that. I burnt to the highway edge and over the train lines. Less than 100 metres more in the direction it was going and it would have hit dense nation park lands and then it would have been lost. Back in '97 the fires hit that national park and it was massive - weather wasn't anywhere near as bad as it was yesterday either, and they had a lot more fire fighters from around the state to work on it. Can't say how lucky we are that they stopped it in time. Haven't had time to go look at the other fire, and not too sure I will.

Damn, every time a helicopter flies over head I run over to the window and start smelling the air.

EDIT: 66 comfirmed dead, as many in hospital with burns, 20 critical and 3 that the doctors have pretty much said aren't making it. One bloke on the news said how his 5000 gallon water tank had all the water boil and evaporate as the fire front approached kiling his fire defences. I missed whether or not his house went up.

EDIT: 76 dead now, just seems to be getting worse and worse like some terrible nightmare

Hey, Kryt, have you and your family already figured out a plan in case of things getting hotter (literally) to flee to a much safer place?

All the best and good luck, mate! May the fire stay away from your home!

Who cares at all?!

Oh, Jesus....

I'm sorry, Kryt. You have my sincere wishes that this all turns out for the best. This has to be trying and difficult for all of you guys. If I prayed, you'd be in my prayers. But seeing as there's some (shoddy) scientific evidence that lots of people thinking hard about the same thing happening decreases the randomness in the universe, and may help the desired effect to come about, I will hope very strongly that everything works out alright, and that the fires go out before any more lives or properties are damaged.

Godspeed, and stay safe.
