CDragon Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) I know I just registered to this forum yesterday, and not everyone may believe me when I say what I am about to say, and there is no easy way to say it. I've given this a good deal of thought, and I believe I would like the same kindness paid to myself as well, should something ever happen to me. A very good friend used to frequent these boards and I know about it because we shared interests in Star Wars, gaming and other things, as I'm a long time IRL friend of his. I don't know how much he told any one here as to what was going on with him, nor what he was telling anyone over MSN. Grand Moff Conway passed away sometime Tuesday night. Last night I went to the calling hours and today was his funeral. He was a great friend and I'll miss him. Edited December 15, 2007 by CDragon
DarthTofu Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) Paul! No! He will be missed by all... May he rest in peace. Man... My best wishes go out to his family and friends in this difficult time. Paul will most certainly be missed. I initially thought it would detract from any value of what I had to say to tell Paul to rejoin the Force happily, but truth be told, as Eagle and Forge have said, he likely would have appreciated going out from these forums as much a nerd as when he entered. So join the Force once more, Paul, and may you conquer the galaxy until the end of time. Eagle Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 OMG, Paul! I´m very sorry to hear that. Allthough I haven´t had that much contact with him, it was allways nice. He went through very hard times. First his mother´s illness and her death, than his own illness. Rest in Peace now, Paul! http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/2125/paulyz9.pnghttp://img528.imageshack.us/img528/5484/kerzela1.gif Maybe this sounds rather silly, but I feel that he would have liked to hear something like that: THE FORCE WILL BE WITH YOU ... ALLWAYS! @CDragonThanks for sharing those news with us. I´ve found a guestbook for Paul in the net, where you can add your condolences:http://www.legacy.com/theithacajournal/GB/GuestbookView.aspx?PersonId=99498775 Who cares at all?!
Lord_La_forge Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Farewell my friend, may your voyage be safe. Leave this little planet without insistence but with your hearth full of love and peace. I always loved to read/watch Paul's reactions on certain topics. Somehow, if it was about the Empire (gaming stories or other) he suddenly appeared and commented it right away. He was a real SWR member, and though I don't know him too much, a good man. I'm sure he was a great friend in RL too. And now I raise myself from my chair and play the Imperial March for Grand Moff Conway in my media player. Farewell Paul! We will remember you!
Krytos Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Rest in peace friend. While I only knew you from these forums, you were still a good mate and will be sorely missed. To Grand Moff Conway, may he rule his Empire in heaven. He will be missed by all. http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif

I haven't heard from Paul in quite awhile, although I would see he has posted here occasionally. If you wouldn't mind sharing with all of us whatever you feel is OK, I think we would appreciate it (and you wouldn't have to repeat yourself several times). My condolences to his family, especailly right before the Christmas season. Adios Partner Long Live Grand Moff Conway! Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! CDragon Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 Thank you, all of you. I'll link my brother to this page and let him also see and pass it on. Paul was a great friend to many people. I've been friends with him since I was a young kid, sitting and watching him and my brother play out one of their many lego battles. My brother was a friend with him far longer than myself as they were classmates back in grade school right through to high school and beyond. He'd been diagnosed as a diabetic back when he was a kid. He was horribly prone to sugar attacks, so he liked to stick with people just in case so they could get help or help him if needed. In the more recent months, his health started to decline more, and had been on dialysis the past few months, and it took up a lot of his time. According to my brother, he had just called the night before, was chipper as ever. The next morning, we heard the news when a mutual friend called my brother and told him. It feels like it wasn't too long ago that Paul was congratulating me for graduating high school and sitting and chatting about Star Wars. A lot of things feel like they weren't that long ago now, but he's now at peace and no longer has to suffer being ill. All I can say, beyond that, is the same as I said in the guestbook... May the force be with you, Grand Moff Conway.
DarthTofu Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Man... Just last month one of my best friends was diagnosed, type one. He's seventeen right now, going on eighteen this school year. I really hope he doesn't have the same complications as poor Paul My condolences to your brother and to you, Dragon. Blessed are the dead that the rain falls on.- F. I really hope he doesn't have the same complications as poor Paul My condolences to your brother and to you, Dragon.~Darth Tofu That's not good, but he pays attention to his doctor, eat the right stuff and take his meds right, exercise and all that junk, he can beat it down. It will take time, etc, but it is possible if diagnosed early enough. I was diagnosed type 2 some time ago and I beat it back to being just insulin resistant. That hardest part is cutting out most pasta, bread, most junk food, candy etc, but there is some really tasty stuff out there. One of my fav's to eat instead of pasta is dry fry (no butter or oil so to cut fat...you can do it in a non-stick pan) up eggplant or zucchini, then dump spaghetti sauce on it. Its a lot cheeper and tastier than the low-carb pastas. I can't manage to get the stuff to taste like anything other than pencil erasers and I'm a decent cook.
Defender_16 Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I... just... I... dont know what to say. I knew he wasnt doing that good lately but. Damn. EDIT: That last time I was talking to him he didnt really say how he was doing. He was more worried about his Brother who was about to ship out. (To Afghanistan I think.) I'd promised Paul I'd put him in the story I was working on. Back in late October and early November we planned out most of it but I never got around to puting it all together. Still could be awhile but it'll happen. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/Defender_16/DEFCON/Avatar-Conway128.jpg
Eagle Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I´m feeling sad about that Paul even had it hard in his childhood. All in all he didn´t seem to have an easy life. But I´m also very impressed about his strength to go through all this. Also best wishes to you CDragon. Who cares at all?!
BadSamaritan Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 It saddens me greatly to hear about his passing. Paul and I talked a lot, and I considered him a good freind. We was very pleasent, and seemed to take all of his problems in stride. I will miss talking to him, as will many others. By prayers go out to his family and friends. I once knew a great man. Nothing got to him, and he always smiled. May he forever rest in peace, knowing fully well that his freinds shall remember him.
budious Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Rest in Peace, Paul. I'm not a regular enough member to say I knew him in every respect but it is always unfortunate for someone so young to pass. My condolences to his friends and family he leaves behind. Moribundus Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Although I didn't know Paul much, I'd like to express my condolences to you and his family. I lost someone to diabetes recently, so I can imagine what he had to endure (and what it takes to live with it). Rest in peace, Paul. We will all miss you. -rebellion2 enthusiast-Terra Reconstructed
Jahled Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I am utterly speechless in my devestation. Due to work I have not had the time to be around these parts of late, nor reply to his last email he sent to me at work on the 9th of this month, informing me his brother was being posted to Afganistan. If I hadn't been so weighed under, I would have replied wishing his brother not least the all the best for his tour of duty, and sending him some kindest, fondest regards for his family, as he sent to mine. But I didn't manage it in time, and now my soul feels some guilt. Paul, you were an excellent mate, and the most excellent of gentlemen around these parts, and will be badly missed. What you've had to go through of late simply doesn't seem fair. I type these words in a state of shock, and will try and get to grips with this tomorrow. At the moment I am to blown away to even try.You were the most steadfast Imperial I ever met: http://www2.b3ta.com/host/creative/9805/1197763470/UnitedEmpireofAmerica02.jpg Your home grown Empire dude! Eagle Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Thanks for making this thread a sticky. So I´ll also post a pic for the last time here, which was first intended as a little joke, but I also knew that Paul would like it. http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6355/emperorpaulja5.jpg He´s our Grand Moff! turtle Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 I never directly talked with Paul nor really knew im in any way but even so, I will miss his honesty and informed posts. May god rest his soul. May your empire grow in the heavenly kingdom.
