Rally Crashes

Does anyone know what kind of cars these are? They seem incredibly lightly built.

Mad's correct, that these cars are mad lighter to improve performance. The heavier a car is, the more power and torque required to produce the performance of a lighter car. Therefore lightening improves acceleration, and to some extent top speed.

It also improves handling. Less weight improves the centre of gravity (usually improved with some modifications as well), and there's less momentum to throw the car around with.

Lightening the car is usually achieved by ripping out the non-essentials - all seats (racing seats replace the front two), carpet, additional body work, air con, cruiser control, abs and other weighted objects. Panel work is usually replaced with lighter materials, fibre glass, aluminium, Kevlar and more recently carbon fibre.

Additionally, roll cages and strut bars are added to give the car's chassis more rigidity - and the roll cage is also intended to protect the driver in case of rolling over.

Engines, too, are heavily modified. Freer reving, lightened fly wheels, heavy clutches, massive turbo's or super chargers, massive inter coolers, practically non-existent exists etc. Modern turbo engines are also over-fuelled to keep the idle high enough so that the turbo is constantly spooling. Most engines are rebuilt after every rally to keep them running. On a side note, modern cars that are built around the rally designs are often high maintenance cars - the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 and 9's were high maintenance cars, in particular there was a 400hp Evo (2 litre engine with a turbo bigger than your head and more lag than some cars can rev) that needed to be serviced every 3000kms.

Most of those small hatchbacks (chosen, because the small size of a hatch makes them lighter and more nimble than a larger car) looked like Renaults and Peugeot's. Personally I liked the Audi Quattro in its day. Then there was the Lancia Delta S4 - a crazy rally car. The only thing that was shared with the original road going version of the car (towards the end if their rally life) was the cabin. The rest of the car was made from roll cage style tubing and Kevlar. The engine was both supercharged and turbocharged.

EDIT: And I just learnt that the car I bought off my brother, and was receiving tonight was just crashed into.

That sucks. What kind of car?

I was sorry to hear about Chris Benoit yesterday (I saw it mentioned in the wish topic, but wanted to bring it hear to talk more about it). He was a great wrestler from way back in the day, and its horrible to hear what he did.

'95 Audi 80 Quattro

Haven't seen the damage, but my brother said: "It's not that bad"

Of course, he's only selling it because he just bought a 2001 BMW 540i, so who knows what that really means.

At least it was insured, as was the other driver. Still, the car WAS close to immaculate

No accidents, one or two minor dints that were barelly noticeable, caused by retards with shopping trollies.

I'm going to go break something now.

Well, car's home and I'm happier than I was earlier. It really is 'minor' damage (I hope there's no additional damage :? ). The boot has a minor dint that looks like it could be panel beaten, however my brother wants it replaced. Bumper while only slightly damaged requires replacing being plastic. A tail light and possibly the exhaust/muffler.

I still wish it didn't happen, and I'm hoping that there's only the physical damage present and nothing hidden like chassis damage.

Truth be told I almost laughed when I saw the other car, a Corolla - I'm thinking 2000ish - which had the front end rather badly damaged.

I'll hopefully have some pics soon.

On a lighter note, my brother brought home his new car :)

Damn it's nice.

I'm yet to recieve the pics of the damage from my brother.

I do, on the other hand, have pics of it prior to the crash ... trust me, the colour grows on you (that use to be a running joke, that the colour grew on the car).

Huge lego aircraft carrier.

Reminds me of the Lego sculptures they have in the Toys R Us in NYC. Heres a pic of it

Of course, that aircraft carrier is sooo much cooler. I love it when people make ridiculous things out of legos.

8O Wow. I (helped) make a huge Space Shuttle at Kennedy Space Center for their Visitor's Center when I was, like, eight, and there were over a hundred members of the Lego Club there to help! That's mad awesome, that thing is! The only things that beat it are at Legoland in California.

Randon tech support. (Seriously, do we have a tech suppor thread? A link would be handy.)

I'm trying to share folders between my new computer and old one. After wrestling with VISTA I finally mannaged to get it sharing on the same network. Now when I went back to the old one to finish getting it to share I ran into THIS!:

The only think I can think of is that I'm not the admin for my computer... which is impossible because I bought the damn thing.

Many years ago now.

Help?

The Church of Google

Just remember, it is a parody - so don't go off the deep end like some of the hate mail

Even though it is a parody, they do make some interesting points in the arguments section. Their proof section was a bit lackluster.

Personal note, while funny - kinda thought they went over the top in attacking other companies calling them the devil or simply crappy. I know Microsoft isn't the greatest, but they definetely could have let up a bit there with the Satan thing and telling people not to use IE. Ironic, seeing as they talk about how they don't pressure people into doing what they don't want etc.

Oh well, each to their own. Funny, nevertheless. Enjoy :)

EDIT:

Oh on, looks like they're in the news now!

Enable the Administrative Tools menu for the Programs folder (located in start menu options). Browse the start menu and find the Services console. Start the Server Service and change it to Automatic setting, I assume if it is stopped, it is currently set to Manual or Disabled. You shouldn't get that error anymore.
