Eagle Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 So weekend is near thus I will present you this jewel: Day of the Triffids After a meteor shower most of humanity became blinded while the shower itself caused the growth of maneating plants which are able to move around the landscape in search of (human) flesh. There are only a few people who are still able to see so they can safe themselves. I love that movie. It is of course a good old B-Movie and the story sounds kinda dumb, but the movie itself is very well done. I fear its only Tex and me again who knows about that movie. Who cares at all?!
Sinister Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I watched the original Planet of the Apes movie the other day. This movie is an awesome classic, and I love the ending. It blows away that 2001 remake. http://www.geocities.com/xenogears23/Jokersinsigmgs.jpg "Life is hard. After all, it kills you." - Katharine Hepburn
Krytos Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I remember watching Day of the Triffids. Didn't really excite me too much, but I imagine it was quiet great when it was made.As for Planet of the Apes, I havn't had the luxury of the original, just the miss-fortune of the remake POS. Anywho I just watched AVP2 today. What to say? I wasn't going in expecting much thanks to the first one and Rob's early comments about it. So, what is it? A good action/gore flick. 'Bout it really. It doesn't have any horror what so ever and focuses on the modern concept of how this guy is going to die. It's sort of like writters have not only gone away from the only a few people die to lets kill as many as possible in a red shirt guy kind of way. And thanks to that, as well as some cliche directing you know who's going to die and how for the most part (One exception comes to mind, and it was the only person I didn't think would die and did). There are continuity errors for those who like the other movies in the franchise (You know a movie is bad these days when those words are uttered about it: franchise), though it does a better job of the Preditor (for the most part) than AVP 1. Umong the worst is how Aliens breed (predalien really) and the accelerated evolution of anything Alien, like setting up a hive in minutes, or going from a chest bursting alien to a 7 foot tall one in .. well, minutes again. The overeall plot wasn't too bad, and I think it could have worked by throwing in Wayland-Yutani more rather than the glimpse we got in both movies. The obvious ending should have had an additional news announcment as part of the cover up .. actually, to make a cover up. Also, I'd have liked there to have been a stronger link to why ONE preditor was sent to cleanup what happened - relative? Blood brothers blah blah blah, not just an intergalactic email and "I'll be right there, let me just grab my things". There are quiet a few, small things, that would have made this movie better if not a success, but alas we're left with what it is. That all said and done, one of my favourite scenes was on the Pred hom world - even if short. It was a great visualisation and ended with a lovelly vista of their culture - a sort of juxstaposition between the future and something that reminded me of ancient Greese/Rome. It was a shame, and blessing, it was so short. If you wonder why a blessing - put simply, it stopped them from screwing it up. So, if you're bored and want a mind numbing movie, without a great deal of thought needed or wanted, enjoy the site of people going splat and evil aliens roaming through town then this is it. The end of the movie has you feeling rather "meh". You saw it, didn't like any characters, didn't get to know them, didn't care who lived or died and quiet frankly seeing the movie has had zero impact on you. Hell, I found myself skipping through the scenes that were set up to try and make you "feel" for the 2d characters who's depth is measured in how much time they were given when they died to get to the preditor's hunting in dark places - that being one of the well done elements of the movie.I'm still hoping for a movie that combines the enthrowling mix of martial military prowness and mind freezing horror of Aliens (one of my all time favourite movies), but for now I've had to settle with Video Games that have accomplished this task (AVP2, Doom 3, Halflife 1&2 etc.) http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
Mad78 Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 I'm still hoping for a movie that combines the enthrowling mix of martial military prowness and mind freezing horror of Aliens (one of my all time favourite movies), but for now I've had to settle with Video Games that have accomplished this task (AVP2, Doom 3, Halflife 1&2 etc.)Dream on Kryt, dream on.I got to see the Forbidden Kingdom. I won some tickets in a local newspaper. It was a fun movie and Jackie CHan and Jet Li are an amazing screen duo and one that I hope to see in other movies. The plot was surely one of the weaker points of the flick for while it did use an old chinese legend as its basis (oh so I'm told) the script writer had the bad idea of americanising it so as to combine the two cultures. This basically mean that there were parts that were so absolutely cheesy that they made me cringe ***shiver***. So basically this was a fun movie but I will always prefer other martial arts movies like Hero. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
DarthTofu Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 I never saw Hero. I wish I had. I bought Shoot 'Em Up the other day.... and subsequently forgot it at my friend's house. I have a bad habit of forgetting stuff that I buy if I don't leave it in my car. Still- I love that movie. It has some great lines mixed in with the senseless violence:"Eat your vegetables.""**** you, you ****ing ****ers!" "Talk about dropping your load!""You know what I hate?" 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Eagle Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I'm still hoping for a movie that combines the enthrowling mix of martial military prowness and mind freezing horror of AliensWell that would be good old "Starship Troopers". But I fear nothing new on the cinema front what belongs to that. Who cares at all?!
Krytos Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 yeah, troopers is good in a not to serious way (I really liked the game though and here the books are good), I didn't even mind number 2 but 3 was rather bad. oh well, I can always dream and hope. just like I do for australian top gear to be good http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif

Eagle Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Wasnt that movie in cinemas this spring/summer? Well it must have been a flop, because now it seems to be already in the public domain: Desaster Movie Who cares at all?!
DarthTofu Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I for one am excited about Quantum of Solace. It comes out in the US tomorrow, and I'm going to see it with some of my friends. On Saturday, I'll probably see Sweenie Todd (sp?). A local theater troupe is putting it on, so I might as well take a looksie. I heard the movie was good, at any rate. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Darth_Rob Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 Unfortunately I havent seen Casino Royale yet. The problem is that the misses saw it previously without me (I think she saw it on a plane flight) and did not like it, and I havent had time to watch a movie on my own. I really want to see it... DarthTofu Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 She didn't like Casino Royale? Rob... I think it's time to move on, find another woman. You cannot be with a woman who does not like that movie. It's perfect- really, it has everything you could possibly want in a movie! The thing I love about these new Bond flicks is that he isn't the ridiculous, over-the-top, invincible Bond of the Pierce Brosnan (sp?)movies. His "high tech car" was a regular (though rather nice-looking) car with a defibrillator and a body condition-transmitter doohicky. Bond can only take on one or two guys at once; he gets cut and he bleeds. He sweats. He gets hurt. In short, he's finally human. But yeah, see Casino Royale before you see Quantum of Solace- Quantum of Solace is the first true Bond sequel, taking place about a half an hour after Casino Royale ends. And might I add- in my opinion it ends with the single best delivery of the "The name's Bond. James Bond." line. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Darth_Rob Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 I'll have to check it out one night and leave her hanging in the other room. I just watched the new Futurama movie- Benders Game. It was great! Almost as good as the first movie, and totally made up for the second movies rather disappointing storyline. The thing that confused me is this. In the credits, it says "special appearance by Gary Gygax". But he passed away in March. So how is he in this movie?!?!?! Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted November 14, 2008 SWR Staff - Executive Posted November 14, 2008 The film is dedicated to Gygax, and contains a post-credits scene featuring his appearance in the episode "Anthology of Interest I."Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bender%27s_Game Sweeney Todd was surprisingly good.I am intending to see Quantum of Solace and Bender's Game too (you can't something that's a reference to Ender's Game haha) Evaders99http://swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif Webmasterhttp://swrebellion.com/images/banners/swcicuserbar.png Administrator Fighting is terrible, but not as terrible as losing the will to fight.- SW:Rebellion Network - Evaders Squadron Coding -The cake is a lie.
Darth_Rob Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 We just came back from seeing Role Models. It was a lot better than I anticipated. A stupid comedy, but great nonetheless. SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted November 15, 2008 SWR Staff - Executive Posted November 15, 2008 Quantum of Solace was, unfortunately, not as good as the first Craig movie. Lots of action, skimpy plot. For what its worth, it kinda put Bond back to his normal routine in the end. There isn't any new ground to be had, no leftovers to fill in his character. He is, predictably, Bond again. DarthTofu Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I beg to differ, Big E. The movie certainly has massive amounts of action, but I didn't think it sacrificed plot too much for it. There was still plenty of intrigue throughout, and they left themselves wide open for a sequel to Quantum of Solace. I personally rank it on par with Casino Royale, though I must complain a little bit about the rising "Invincible factor" to Bond. Casino Royale had him taking on two guys and getting a beating for it... Quantum of Solace has him taking out four guys in an elevator with his bare hands, no problem. I suppose if you're angry enough you can, and if they aren't expecting it, but still... Fortunately it again steered clear of the gadget tomfoolery, and kept things (relatively) believable when it came to tech. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted November 16, 2008 SWR Staff - Executive Posted November 16, 2008 There was no mystery on who the enemies were, who were allies and such. I thought it was pretty simple to deduce the plot and its resolution. DarthTofu Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Some spoilers follow. There was the sense of "oh, snap- Mitchell was in MI6 for twelve years and was really a sleeper agent" that made you wonder if any characters who appeared to be good guys might really be bad guys. And when Felix was acting, you wondered a bit about his loyalties- I did, at least. And then there was the question of what Greene Planet wanted with the Bolivian land- that was a tricky one to figure out until it was given to you. But overall, it wasn't about the "whodunnit" so much as it was about the characters- M's conflict over how to deal with Bond, Bond's conflict with his wife's (they got married, right?) demise and how to deal with it. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away

Darth_Rob Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 I'm back guys! I saw the old TMNT movie the other day. I must say it was pretty good! The first two were priceless and awesome. The third one...I hated it. The funny thing is that I remember hating it back when it was first released in theaters when I was a child. It was just a disappointment to not include any of the villains into that movie. I mean, all in all, the only villain from the show to make it into the movies was Shredder. None of the other major villains, like Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang, or Baxter Stockman made it. It was a true disappointment then and now. Wow...I dont think Ive ever ranted about the TMNT movies before... Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! DarthTofu Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Psst- TMNT is the newer, digital film. The other three are from the nineties, Rob. I watched the digital version when I got really bored, and I must say, it disappointed me. I suppose they got the characters down pretty well, but they had a whole new villain thing going and... well, it didn't work at all. Too campy, in my opinion, and they expected you to know a bunch of stuff in advance- such as that Shredder had apparently been killed. Sort of a "WTF?" moment. Shredder is always needed in a TMNT movie! 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
