Just saw Boondock Saints through from beginning to end, without censorship, for the first time. Great movie, that- I'd seen it on TV once a long time ago, and I thought it was pretty good. The swearing is pretty dang thick throughout the movie, but it's one of the best shoot-em-up movies of all time. William Defue (sp?) is truly spectacular in that movie.

"So what's the symbology of that?"

"Symbology? I believe the word you're looking for is sssssssssymbolism!"

"Greenly- bagel. Cream cheese."

:lol: Great lines, though the all-time best is, of course:

"And shepherds shall we be,

for the my lord for thee.

Power hath descended forth from thine hand

so our feet might swiftly carry out thine command.

We shall flow a river forth to thee,

and teaming with souls shall it ever be.

De nomine parti et filii et spiritus ante."

Any good new movies?

Where are all those epic pieces like SW, LOTR and Matrix (okay that sucks, but still) and i don't know what else...

Are there any movies (like 300 back then) that you guys really wait? Let me know, I'm dry.

There is a butt-load of movies due out in a few months that I am excited for, such as Indiana Jones, Iron Man, and hopefully the new Hulk wont suck as much as the other one. There are many others too, which I cannot think of right now.

Oh, did I mention how excited I am for "Harold and Kumar 2"???

Told you, Mad.

I know nothing about the new Hulk flick, but I'll likely catch it. I'm excited about Iron Man, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Harold and Kumar 2 (weren't they supposed to be escaping from Guantanimo?), and the new James Bond flick. Daniel Craig (sp?) did a pretty good job in the last one. Hopefully they can replicate that in this one- it's nice to see James Bond finally being human for a change.

As for Harold and Kumar 2, I think they get arrested as terrorists, then escape Guantanamo and somehow end up on President Bush's ranch or something...

Most be the cultural difference, superhero stuff never really interested me (or maybe us in Europe), though I loved the first Hulk movie! :D

Was fun to watch, how all those war machines failed against a single human and his anger/love. Even though the CG was crappy, Hulk's character was really good. His moves and his vitality makes him very animalistic and powerful (kind of uber-alpha male). The soundtrack was also pretty nice, fitting to the events. But it was a stupid idea to make all those split screens and picture-in-picture cuts. They wanted to make it like it was a comic book, but it was rather disturbing. The ending was also okay, though other people maybe wanted to see a happy-end.

Indiana Jones will be fun I guess. I fear, they might ruin it in some way, but hopefully not. Certainly a must-see for me.

Supposedly the new Jones movie will stay very true to the old eighties-style of film making. Less digital, more stunt men. I don't know that I'm convinced- I'm quite wary that it'll be ruined with too much green screen. Indy looked way too digital at a few points in the trailer. Add to that the not-hot evil Soviet woman and Indie's lines "Damn! I thought that was a lot farther away!" and "You're a teacher?" "Part time!"... I'm very afraid.

I agree with you on just about all fronts, LLF. I never read the Hulk comics, so I enjoyed the movie as it was. True, it was a kind of dumb idea, but the central plot- that there really is no good guy- that I enjoyed.

Honestly I´m not very optimistic about the new Indie-Movie. I expect the ordinary hollywood bang boom bangaloom bang-movie with lots of CGI, an aged Harrison Ford and without the charme the old trilogie had.

Note: The following is definately not save for work!

For all you Southpark-Fans:

http://www.southparkstudios.com/

That episode resembles some scenes of the cult animated HEAVY METAL-Movie of 1980, which I am proud to own inclusive it´s great soundtrack. If you´ve ever get your hands on a copy of that movie, don´t hesitate to get it. It´s violent, funny, sexy and anything than political correct.

If your curious, here´s the trailer:

Here are some parts of the scenes which have been parodied in the Southpark episode above:

Taarna Pt.1

Taarna Pt.2

Small bonus, though in spain, but you don´t have to understand it either. Just enjoy. ;)

Oh, I have to watch that movie again asap. :D

  • 3 weeks later...

I saw "shoot 'Em Up" on a friend's Zune (sp?). OH MY GOD! Best gun movie ever! It is the 300 of gun fights! Honestly! Sure, the physics is pure crap in a bunch of places (For instance, that car crash where he jumps into the SWAT-style van), but it was still cool as hell! And on top of it all, that thing was against gun violence and the whole second amendment stuff!

My favorite bits were those recurring themes of the carrots (He kills two guys using only carrots) and the line "You know what I hate?" primarily because I hate several of the same things (That turn signal scene was the best). Def recommended it to everyone back when it first came out, and now I wish I'd seen it in theaters. Sure, a few lines were very corny (That guy in the suit was awful), and some bits were poorly done (The skydiving gun fight in particular), but it was still a great flick. Nine stars out of ten, easily.

... So who's gone and seen Harold and Khumar II? (sp?) I think it looks funny, but I'm waiting for some other poor dumb bastard to check it out before I check it out.

I'll be the poor bastard going Sunday.

On the other hand, we saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It was a very good, very funny movie. Laughed the entire way through. If you like the other work they did (40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up) this movie is a must-see.

Found this cool site a couple of days ago where you can watch/download a lot of good old classic b-movies of the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s for free. Very nice. And I have to watch all those good old Zorro and Flash Gordon movies with Buster Crabbe, which I loved as a child. :)

So we saw Harold and Kumar yesterday. It was as good as anticipated, if not better. Definitely lived up to the first one, and is worthy of being called a sequel.

However, this movie did something that other previous releases have been doing the past year. What Im referring to is...well...the blatant, gratuitous showing of...male genitalia, for lack of a better word to use on these forums. I dont know what America's sudden infatuation with it is, but, as far as I can recall, it started with Borat. After Borat, there was a lull, at least as far as I know. But I have seen three movies this year in the theaters that used this for shock value/cheap laughs. The first was Dewey Cox, which was just insane. Then just recently, both Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Harold and Kumar used it as a comedy device also.

It appears to me that the U.S. media is getting more...perverse recently. A lot of things are being said that wouldn't have been said on television two years ago. And now this full-frontal male nudity is parading around in theaters. Now dont get me wrong...I have no problem with the language and what not. But its just weird to being seeing things that I would never have thought to see in a movie. Its becoming common place. I mean, its not that it bothers me, because Im sure I react as the film crew wanted me to by saying "what the @#$%" and laughing, but its still such a new and odd concept to me. I can only imagine that within the next few years, rated-R movies will be indistinguishable from a porno...

What Im referring to is...well...the blatant, gratuitous showing of...male genitalia...

While I realise that male genitalia are considere to be more private than a woman's breasts, I can't help but wonder if you, or indeed most people, would be decrying a sudden increase in the senseless flaunting of topless women in movies (granted, this has already happened somewhat), or if there were (more) full frontal nudity of women? I know you said it didn't bother you, but there are some people (probably men, for the most part) who would be bothered by male nudity, but not female.

As for the media becoming more perverse, I think it's just a sign that North America is slowly edging out of its prudish shell. Certainly something like male nudity would barely be worth mentioning in Europe, whereas here it sends mothers and fathers into corners, to whisper and shake their heads in disapproval.

I'm sorry to take that off ona rant, of sorts, but the thought just struck me as I read your post. In general I don't go to see the sort of comedy movie that Harold and Kumar is simply because the over all quality of "teen comedies" has decreased drasticaly in recent years (with the possible exception of Super Bad, however I was less impressed with it than most), especially since Epic Movie. I find the over all quality of movies these days to be low, with the exception of one or two gems that somehow manage to slip through the fingers of whichever film executives crappify scripts.

I tend to waste my hard earned money on whatever poorly-envisioned comic book adaptation happens to be spewing filth on audiences. Some times I even get lucky and there's a film that claims to be based on a novel, with half the story gutted from it and a plot vaguely resembling what most people remember. That reminds me, Iron Man is out today! Ok, so Iron Man looks pretty good; but will it stand up to Indiana? I think not.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
