Well, I went and saw Cloverfield last night and I did like it. How should I put it? It was a "realistic" monster movie, or at least as "realistic" as a monster movie can get. Take Godzilla and mix it with horror elements and what you come up with is basically Cloverfield.

By the way, stay till after the credits and listen very carefully. You won't see anything, but you will hear something. It's faint, be ready for it.

I would post spoilers but I can't seem to get the tags to work.

Much as I hated it, I just found out something awesome about the film The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's opening gross was 4.2 million dollars. Appropriate? Hell yes that's appropriate! I would have preferred to see it done with the cast of Monty Python as opposed to the guys they used, though. After all, forty-two was chosen as the answer to life, the universe, and everything because Douglass Adams first appeared on Monty Python's Flying Circus during the forty-second episode...

Okay, I'm cutting myself off from Wikipedia.

Wow. 8O I'm not sure whether to shake my head or pity you for knowing that bit of trivia...

For those of you who want some spoilers about Cloverfield, I will now post them.

Behold: First off, they never do say what the monster is nor where it comes from. It is not Cthulhu, as many people believed it would be. The movie does give some possible ideas as to what it is: an alien, government experiment gone wrong, deep sea creature that has only now been seen by humans. As to what it looks like, we get to see it throughout mostly in glimpses. There are a few good shots where you can see pretty much the entire creature. There's even one part at the end where one of the characters come literally face to face with it. It's big, like Godzilla, but it walks around on four legs. In between its front and hind legs are another, smaller, T-rex like pair of claws. The monster also has parasites (giant flea like creatures) that fall off of it and attack humans.

Finally, although this does not really explain where the monster came from, it might be a good hint. At the end of the film there is a recording of the main character talking to his girlfriend about a month or so before the events of the movie. If you look in the background behind them you can see something fall out of the sky and land in the water off in the distance. The characters don't notice it and keep on talking.

Here is a drawing of the monster and it is pretty acurate:

I wonder if this will delay The Dark Knight.

Did any of you see Candy? It starred Heath Ledger as one of the main characters. It's a really good, but sad film. I rented it this last summer.

It's always depressing to see a young and talented actor or singer pass away so early in their life.

I was really shocked as I heard this, because it was so unexpected.

It´s truly a big loss. He was really a great and very talented actor. I don´t know all of the movies he appeared in, but those in which I saw him he allways did a very good job.

I heard from a friend who's intently watching the Dark Knight stuff that they'd recently finished filming before Ledger died. That suggests suicide to me.

Reportedly (From my friend; I'd say that I'm not sure I believe him, but the fact of the matter is that I'm almost positive I don't) he was getting so into his role as the Joker that he frightened himself with some of his thoughts. That led to insomnia, which led to the sleeping pills, which may have led to suicide.

*Shrugs* just my two bits. What's the betting YTMND takes advantage of his gay cowboy role in Brokeback Mountain and starts making "Ledger closed due to AIDS" YTMNDs?

Double post... Two days after my last post in here. Oh well. I have a reason: I'm on topic for once.

Cloverfield was the most awesome thriller I have ever seen in my entire life! If you're not SOCL, picture 300, only as a thriller, and with a totally different plot, but with, at a bare minimum, an equal level of awesome.

The experience was on par to having nails made of win hammered into your ears, eyes, and general body with a series of sledgehammers made of win. Standing up is actually difficult due to the painful experience with awesome you have just experienced.

I'd put up spoilers, but all I think most of them would read "Event X occurs, this movie is awesome, Event Y occurs, this movie is awesome, Event Z occ- WHYTHEHELLAREYOUSTILLREADINGTHISWHENYOUOUGHTTOBEOUTATTHETHEATERWATCHINGCLOVERFIELDFORYOURSELF?!?"

... and so on and so forth.

... God, so much win in one and a half hours- it's hard to absorb! I think my pee had adrenaline in it, the movie was that good!

I wasn't really a fan of Cloverfield.

The acting was, in my opinion, sub par, and the movie itself left way too many questions to be answered (Don't get me wrong, the concept was great, the story was just lacking)

With this movie my worst fear has come to pass.. Reality TV has made a movie!

The movie could have been so much better, and much longer than the 85 odd minutes that it is billed at.

Does anybody remember this one? Even 20 years ago it looked silly, but I liked it. :D

I remember that show, and the toys they made of it.

I had some of those toys! They were like vehicles with a guy inside. You then popped a VHS tape (that came with the toy) in the TV, and you fired the vehicle at the screen. I think it had like these kinds of light guns or something. Anywho, if you ended up losing the battle, your guy would be ejected out of the vehicle!!!

There were toys for that? 8O

I liked the look of it, which looked like after an atomic holocaust. Also the computer graphics were outstanding for 1987.
