I hate fat people... At school nothing is sold anymore because everything good that we used to have had too many calories.

I'm as beligerent(sp) to fat people as often as possible. Well the useless ones anyways.

Today's my last day of slaving away for the man!!!

Since today was the last day of classes, I also made it my last day of work. This way I can cram over the weekend for my 3 finals on Monday, then I get to go home!!! Then I will begin my winter break career of selling off the junk in my room on ebay.

What are you going to do with all of that cash you get form ebay Rob? And for how long is your winter break (or, ... is that really a Christmas break)?
Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?

If you're trying to BEAK him, Tex, I must correct you: Only a parochial school may refer to the break in December as a "Christmas" break. (Though they should really offer the break in the Summer around August)

In accord with the Establishment Clause and the decision that children are influencable by being taught religion in school, the school board must call it "Winter Break," so as to be non-denominational.

We just finished up the first ammendment in government class. If you were referring to it as "Christmas Break" with regards to it's length being all of one day, I appologize. I just like to go off on long rants about the Constitution because I can.

@Eagle: And here I always wanted to watch "The Meaning of Life." That was both hilarious and sickening. Kind of like "Supersize Me."

The winter break does indeed cover Christmas, along with Haunkah (sp) and Kwanza, so everyone's happy!!! It goes on til January 15thish I think. I dunno the exact date, but somewhere in there. Got so much stuff to do, between ebaying it up and the holidays with my family and Festivus with my friends and my friend's birthday and visiting my sister in NYC and seeing New Found Glory in concert and going to South Carolina for New Years (I'll almost be close enough to throw something at Tofu's house)...I'll be a busy beaver.

Many many moons ago I used to work at a Cici's Pizza... its an all you can eat pizza buffet place here in the U.S. ... and let me tell you... there were some people just like that Def.. i mean.. they showed up before my shift started at 4 pm and didnt leave until shortly before we closed at 10 pm.. it was scary to see how much pizza they ate....

We in the NY Metro area get commercials on that place from time to time...however, just like Denny's and Sonic, you can't find one for about 50 miles (approx. 80 KM for those International Reb fans playing at home)

There was no BEAK intended, just a poke at nosy liberals taking matters into their own hands. And, why should a parochial school offer a "Christmas" break in the Summer around August?

In accord with the Establishment Clause and the decision that children are influencable by being taught religion in school, the school board must call it "Winter Break," so as to be non-denominational.

[my computer died the first time I posted this, so here goes ... again] The last I remember, the Founding Fathers were all "Christians" and their beliefs were the foundation for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. No where in either document will you find the words "separation of church and state" (I know that's probably what you were thinking Tofu). I don't remember where it was mentioned, but it's definitely NOT in either of them. If you remember your history, the King of England was also the "head" of the "church" in England, and the Founding Fathers didn't want the new American government to be in control of religion. But, that doesn't mean the government can't mention religion or anything associated with it. It's the bleeding heart stick-my-nose-in-your-business liberals that take it upon themselves to change things to their liking by professing that "it offends others" (Go cry in a gulag!). Oh sorry about that; anyway, the government isn't telling the citizens how to worship, where to worship, when to worship, if they even want to worship at all. That's left up to the individual person (unlike back then). So the bleeding heart liberals want "Christmas break" changed to "Winter break" because it might offend somebody. Well, the change to "Winter break" offends me, so what are they going to do about that! This is America founded on freedoms, not a bunch of pansies trying to turn everything into a "generic sterile society" so they can feel good and be important (at least to themselves).

Oh ... sorry about the rant, but I did mean what I said. And Rob, that's a nice long CHRISTMAS break. Even though you're really going to be busy, I hope you enjoy every minute of it :D

Tex, I'm studying this in government class. Ben Franklin and Tohomas Jefferson were both Deists, and the most of the founding fathers agreed that, in effect, a wall seperating church and state in America was necessarry.

As for the parochial schools offering their Christmas break in August: That's when Jesus was supposed to have actually been born, if I remember correctly. Christmas was moved to the winter to take advantage of the popularity of the Pagan solstice holiday.

You have every right to believe what you want, and I'm not trying to encroach upon that in any way, shape, or form. I'm fine with it.

Thing is, it's been determined that you can't teach religion in a public school as fact. Ever heard of the Lemon Test? It was derived from a Supreme Court case, and essentially says that the government can in no way fund the teaching of any religion.

The fact that you are 'offended' by the use of the term 'winter' is your own issue. Winter is not religious unless you want to start making up your own religion where that's a dirty word.

So yes, you got that pretty much entirely wrong. This nation's Constitution is NOT founded upon the Bible. It is founded on the idea of freedom both to for religion and from it.

I have no problem with it being called a Christmas break, so don't jump on my case about being a bleeding heart- I'm just repeating what the government has already said.

Edit: So I feel rather stupid, now. I just realized that Rob's in college, not High School, and that Colleges, being something that is not considered absolutely necessarry in the U.S. may, in fact, call it a Christmas break if they want.

Everything I was talking about reffers to required educational facilities.

Christmas was moved to the winter to take advantage of the popularity of the Pagan solstice holiday.

It was moved to winter to replace a Roman holiday. The solstice is on a different date.

The seperation of church and state was only meant to prevent an official religion from being established and persecuting the others. Values from almost every religion were incorparated into the constitution. Don't kill, don't steal, don't attack anybody, plus more, are all values of Christianity and other religions.

And because Christmas's main focus is no longer on religion, but Santa and presents, it does not even come close to enforcing religion on anybody.

Disregarding all new evidence everywhere.

Tohomas? (BEAKness turned off, there's way too many errors) I agree about separation of church and state, just not the way the direction the bleeding hearts are pushing it

This nation's Constitution is NOT founded upon the Bible.

I didn't say it was founded on the Bible; which/who's version do you think it's based on? I only said their Christian beliefs were a foundation (you do know what a foundation is?). :?

You are a bleeding heart, and what's wrong about jumping on your case? I thought you thrived on chaos and challenge, especially given on the topics and comments you make. Oh, and just don't be a parrot repeating what you learn in school; teachers aren't always right in what they teach, as some teach their personal philosophies about subjects. Understand the subject, and form your own opinion and what you really think

Actually the colonists and early Americans were Protestants. They had left England to escape the Christian/Catholic church.

The Catholic church ceased to be an influential force on everyday English subjects when the monarchy took over the reins of religion. I would think they left England to escape persecution from differing with the monarchy on how they wanted to worship/believe in God. Not to mention that quaint little thing called tithing ($) and who gets to keep it. :?

I have my own opinions, but I by no means consider myself a 'bleeding heart.' I merely put things in context and try to deal with them with empathy.

You may say that, in not wanting to attend a Christian church sermon, I am close minded because I feel uncomfortable due to not believing as they do.

How would you feel at a Muslim sermon? I have a feeling you'd be rather uncomfortable.

Christian faith is only part of the foundation behind this nation. It was also built off of the Roman civilization, ideals such a Hammurabi's code, etc. Saying that the Constitution is based on the Bible is like saying that America today is based on white, caucasian males. Sure, a lot of stuff in production today is produced by white, caucasian males, and a lot of this stuff was invented by them. But if we only take inventions from white caucasian males to be American, then we're taking out a huge chunk of what makes America great.

In calling me a 'bleeding heart' you hide behind a mask of a complete lack of empathy, and give no speech on the matter. I'm telling you what the Supreme Court has ruled- if you don't agree with the court, that's your right. Odds are you aren't about to change it.

I do form my own opinions on matters, and feel strongly about them. I believe in most everything the Constitution says, and feel much the same way as the Supreme Court did in many cases. My opinions are formed recently in some cases, but they are still based upon the same matter as your own.

Just because I feel sympathy for someones' cause doesn't mean that I'm a bad or stupid person, by any means. I don't see why today's society has gone off and found it to be a bad thing to care for your fellow man.

I enjoy bringing up controversial subjects, primarily because I enjoy debate as well as seeing everyones' views on a matter, and why people feel the way they do.

BTW: On "There's way too many errors?" Really? There is too many errors? There are too many.

Tofu,

I'm a bit too tired to verbally cross swords with everything you stated in the post I'm referencing. Again, find us a part of this nation's Constitution that enforces a separation of Church and State. If nothing exists, then this is a matter of the Judicial Branch creating Legislature. Nothing More, Nothing Less.

Now, if there is a quote from a Founding Father that states said separation, please quote him and reference the document. This way, we can make our own judgement by placing the quote in context.

Whoa, okay! Time to grab this bull by the horns and bring us back on topic...lest punishments be handed out.

So I still work at a damn book store: Borders books. My general manager quit, though, so it makes life only that much more bareable. Also, I work at a bank as an evening drive-thru teller, and as a receptionist/office assistant at a private securities firm in DC. My boss for the securities firm is a cool, ex-Special Forces guy who scares the crap out of me every time he gets angry at someone.

Maybe... It's really more a pain than it sounds...unless it sounds like a pain already... In any event, it's not much fun juggling three jobs and university all at once. Basically, I work at Borders the days I don't have classes, I work at the bank when I do have classes (after classes in the evenings since the bank is close to my university, except Fridays), and work as a receptionist Friday and sometimes Saturday nights (I am one of three, well, two now since one of the receptionists got sacked for losing some paperwork, but there are supposed to be three: one full-time, day-time receptionist, one part-time evening repcetionist, and one part-time weekend receptionist...me).

Yeah, I'll second Mad's statement - more on the grounds of the fact you've got 3 jobs and can stand it 8O I know people with 2 jobs and it drives them nuts, let alone 3 different jobs.

Umm...did I read right? A drive through bank? 8O

That's new to me!

I officially love my new place of work; We have Christmas Day off!!!

Yee-haw! Not like that stupid coffee shop.

Really? Interesting. It's not so much the entire bank is drive-through, we just have a few drive-thru tellers and I happen to work on during the evening shift.

As for having three jobs and handling it...well, it does drive me rather crazy. In any event, the three job matter is only going to last until the start of the new semester, at which time I'll switch over to a single job on weekends only. I'm really only doing this insanity to make money over the winter break.

Well, actually, I don't have to work, but it does help out when it comes to paying for gasoline and such other things. I prefer to let the parents pay tuition whilst I cover the other expenses. Plus, it helps to save for graduate and post-graduate school.
