OOC: For the time being unless somebody else want's to jump in (or somebody higher ranking wants to kick me out of the spot!), I'll go ahead and run the General commanding the task force, General Drelin. It'll make it easier for me to coordinate a few things for the next little while. I'll Header my posts so everybody knows which is which.

OOC: Cool, good idea - we need a Commanding Officer, now we just need some Imps to throw a spanner into the works. Anyway, I'll be waiting until the fleet battle between the Imperials and Republic starts before joining in - until then, I'm just in transit to the planet escorting the Republic's Envoy II .

The battle wasn't kind to the already wounded Nova Dream and it sluggish lumbered back onto the Republic Envoy and nestled into it's docking bay. Ulic disembarked from the ship and got back to work on the ship. He wondered what had happened to some of the other ships but he'd have to find out later.

"It's not my fault!"

"Oh yeah? What's in it for me?"

The Battle was finally over and Tython was congratulating his pilots on a job well done. "Well done men! Against all odds we survived and we have 16 confirmed kills. because of that we are being promoted to leading fighter sqaudron." Tython said and as an after thought he added " and all of you stay preped we might have to be called in at the slightest sign of a continued battle. I hope to see you all rested and back here in 4 hours.

From the bridge of the Alderaan, General Drelin watched the Star Destroyer's battle group complete its jump into hyperspace.

We need better gravity well technology, he mused. I'm gtting sick of the Imps jumping in and out wherever they want. There aren't enough 7700s to go around. Maybe if we started dedicating some of the new frigate hulls to interdiction...something to bring up when we get back...

Logging the thought for later, he turned to his chief of staff. "Ok, we've got work to do. Start by informing our Bothan he'll have to contact his representative on Hefi and push things back a day or two. I don't want anybody important on the ground just yet" Distantly, he wondered how the Bothan would react to being spoken of as "theirs". Probably the same way I did the first time he talked about "his" escort group".

"Second, contact Major Karn and have him report here. Get me that kid who was cluttering the freqencies, too. Did we ever figure out his name?"

"Yes, sir. Captain Nulos of the Revolution said it was a Cadet Brandei, a turbolaser crewman."

"Brandei as in the Coruscant Brandeis?" At the blank look he got back, he snapped "Find out. I like to know these things."

"Third, I want every tagalong we have on this trip, all the extra civilians that Command insited I give rides to, to be ready for a radio conference in 4 hours"

"Finally, bring that smuggler's ship we snagged in before he either burns out his engines or pulls something clever and gets away. I want him brought here to the bridge as soon as his ship is secured."

"I...I don't believe it!"

"THAT is why you fail."

Arten had removed his finger from the hyperdrive control as the Revolution locked its tractors onto his ship. His euphoria at completing the job quickly turned to dismay as he realised that he could not escape - to try to enter hyperspace while in the cruiser's tractors would destroy his tiny freighter in an instant.

As the Scout headed for the massive navy ship ahead, Arten heded for the cargo compartment to clean up all traces of the compartment's previous cargo.

"I thank you, my friend, for it is in your death that the Scorekeeper finds my true worth."

The Reckless Wonderer held its postion next to the Alderaan as a shuttle exited it's hanger and headed towards the larger Mon Cal vessel.

Karn sat patiently in the passanger section of the shuttle during its journey. It only took around 5 minutes for the shuttle to leave the CC-5500's small hanger and dock with the Alderann.

Karn exited the vessel in his clean cut Rebellion era uniform - not being a member of the New Republic's military, he'd never recieved the updated uniform. It didn't matter to him, though as he walked through the hangar he noticed the stares of attention that he got, they probably think I'm some Rebellion hero like Luke Skywalker or Wedge Antillies. The idea brought a smile to Karn's mouth.

It was another few minutes until Karn had reached the General's quarters onboard the Alderann. When he arrived, there was another man waiting - this one wore the uniform of the New Republic, and judging from its looks it was the combat uniform of a turbolaser crewman. Karn nodded to him, and then leaned heavily againt the wall and waited until the General called him.

IC:

Alex took a good hard look at the man in the outdated uniform, trying to figure out if he needed to address him by rank or not.

Better safe than sorry, I suppose. Like I need anybody else pissed at me...

"You screw something up too, sir, or does the General need you for something else?"

OOC: Welcom back Brandei! :D !

I hope you weren't detained by anything to serious. :?

IC:

Looking up at the cadet, Karn almost didn't realise that he was being spoken to. So few ever called him Sir, and it was a tag he prefered not to stick with. For some reason it made him uncomfortable in these situations - in combat or when commanding his own ship it made life easier. Though in someone elses ship, and waiting to talk to his CO, being referred to as Sir was just weird to him.

"Not sure, kid. You don't have to call me sir, my own crew hardly call me sir so I don't except anyone else to. Pretty sure I havn't screwed up lately - but then again, I've a tendancy to get on people's bad side."

Karn could see that the cadet was a bit on edge, and from his question it was obvious the soldier had done something wrong.

"So, what's your story Cadet?"

"Heh. I think I did screw up, but not anything I did today...I think the General might think I'm somebody dangerous"

Before Alex had a chance to decide whether or not to explain any further, he heard General Drelin summoning them both into his quarters.

"I...I don't believe it!"

"THAT is why you fail."

As General Drelin:

The General looked up as Cadet Brandei and Major Karn walked in, Brandei immediately snapping to attention, Karn adopting a somewhat more relaxed pose. Not disrespectful, but relaxed.

"Major, have a seat for a moment while I deal with the Cadet, here."

"Cadet, you do realize that your chain of command exists for a reson, correct?"

"Yes, sir" The reply wasn't proud, but it wasn't ashamed, either. Drelin smothered a grin, managing to keep his face deadpan while he continued.

"During this battle, you repeatedly ignored that chain by forcing your way onto other command nets to disseminate information. By doing so, you prevented other sections, many of them more critical than a single turbolaser, from communicating with me in a tense combat situation. Do you understand that gravity of that?"

"Yes, sir"

Drelin grunted, then shifted his attention to Karn. "Major, you have extensive combat experience with the Rebellion, and you're quite familiar with Imperial tactics and capabilities. Alone, all things being functional and equal, how much chance does an Imperial Strike Cruiser stand against an MC-80 cruiser carrying a standard 3 squadrons of fighters, 2 of X-wings, one of A-wings? And ONLY answer that question; I intend to educate the Cadet here."

"I...I don't believe it!"

"THAT is why you fail."

Karn stared at the General, he wasn't sure what the cadet had done though it was obvious where the General was going with this. Without needing to think about weaponary or anything else about the ships involved, Karn replied.

"With out any other factors included, the MC-80 would defeat the Strike cruiser. However, a good captain or strat . . ."

Before he got to finish, the General cut him off. Karn never liked repremanding anyone, unless they had done something seriously wrong. Nevertheless, Karn wasn't about to push this point - at least infront of the cadet. He didn't need to get on the bad side of his new CO.

OOC - Oh. Oops!

IC - Arten lowered the Scout's cargo ramp and walked out to meet the three troopers standing in the center of the frigate's massive hangar. He raised his hands in a gesture of mock surrender.

"Look fellas, I was just running a routine courier job for one of the chemical refineries on the..."

The first soldier cut him off before he was able to finish.

As General Drelin...

"Thank you, Major. Now, what if the MC-80 in this case can't accurately target the Strike Cruiser? In your opinion, does a Strike Curiser possess enough raw firepower to seriously damage or destroy the Mon Calamari before reinforcements can arrive?"

"I...I don't believe it!"

Arten returned to his ship as ordered, supressing an amused grin. Surely the soldiers' failure to search his ship the moment he docked broke just about every regulation in the book? He went back up the ramp, codelocked the controls, exited the ship, and closed the ramp. He turned to follow the guards, who were now heading for a door set in the far wall of the hangar.

Karn didn't jump right into answering this question. A Strike Cruiser could deal out a fair amount of damage, though was it enough to do any real damge to a MC80? A good captain and crew could concentrate their fire over a small area and open up a weak point on the shields allowing a stray bolt to pass through. Though, the ships hull armour would be able to protect against the type of firepower a Strike could muster for a long time. Even if the MC80 didn't have shields, the best the Strike could do is attempt to knock out the ship's bridge or shields - which was a long shot as well.

Though the MC80 had its shields, and assuming the Strike could open up a few weak points in the shields, which would close after a few seconds, it would take a very long time to do any real damage to the Mon Cal cruiser.

"No sir, the Strike cruiser didn't have enough time to do any real damage to the MC80."

Karn wanted to push the point that the Strike Cruiser was just a distraction, and left unattented would have been able to deal with Karn's own frigate and the diplomats vessel easily. Though Karn had already over stepped his boundaries with the General - he would bring it up once the cadet had left. All he could do now was clench his fist tight enough to turn his knuckles white, though he carefully placed it out of the General's view.

As Drelin...

Drelin grunted, inwardly amused at the expression on Karn's face.

"Well, I tend to disagree, Major. I don't know how much of the fleet-wide chatter you were able to catch, being engaged, but we weren't able to target the Strike Cruiser at all. Had we not taken our turbolasers off computer targeting, they would have had a free shot at us, with the Ardor and the Revolution unable to retaliate as well."

"My point here is that Cadet Brandei did the right thing, catching a problem, evaluating its import, and making the decision to override the chain of command once his superior unfortunately chose to ignore him."

"The Imperials were using technology I haven't seen before, targetting individual gunner stations and toying with the readings; essentially, they were able to neutralize an entire 3 ship's complement of weaponry. Cadet Brandei here caught that...although, I suspect, he had help from his father."

Turning to face Brandei, he asked "Am I correct?"

"I...I don't believe it!"

"THAT is why you fail."
