I think we have a newbie here who wanted to see if his posts worked, and then realised that they did but he had nothing to say, so he's asking for it to be deleted. But lets talk about Rommel instead. Poor bloke - Rommel that is!

Brilliant tactician, wrong side. Made one too many mistakes. Does anyone ever wonder what would have happened if someone sane had been in control of Nazi Germany? I mean, they did have superior weapons for a while and very good generals. Hell, they had jets before the Allies did!

Even Hitler was a master of his art, he was a master manipulator. If he and several others hadn't been so insane, they could have won. I strongly suspect that if someone had thought about the problems of Russian winter, and standardised tanks, then they would have won.

I think that the reason that Hitler lost is that he tried to do too much at once, he tried to fight the Russians and every one else at the same time. If he had concentrated all of his energies on one particular enemy then he probably would have been victorious...

Some of the General's did recognise the Russian winter as a factor but Hitler wouldn't listen, was to wrapped up in the idea of lebensraum

The reason that H. lost is simple: he was an idiot and deserved nothing better.

 

A history teacher once gave us a good example of this: when he heard of the growing number of losses in Russia he threw himself to the floor and bit into the carpet. Nobody sane (even a bit) would have done that, also in front of the few generals he still had by then. Those who were of a different opinion were quickly executed....

 

 

But Khan is right, delete this topic altoghether. This is not really worth talking about.

If Hitler had not been over zealous and concentrated his army on Europe instead of pissing off the Ruskies then i would be speaking German just now.

he already had Europe. If by that you mean England as well then..'ve seen pages and pages of debate on this and no solid conclusion.

 

My take on it: If he'd been able to get a decent landing barge design and produce enough of them, if they hadn't buggered up Dunkirk and stopped bombing the RAAF bases then they could have invaded. But it would have been a damm hard battle, lots of casulties. The pomms woulda put up a damm good fight.

 

 

There was talk of Stalin having some secret plan to invade Germany around the time of Barbarossa but i've never seen much more of it than a few KGB documents in some doco

By my last past i did mean Brittain and i also agree that the onlt thing that kept us from being conquered was the fact we are an island. If hitler had a good landing craft then we would be buggered.

Yeah it should be moved. This always seems to happen, we always get off topic. In this case there was no real topic to discuss so how could we get off topic.

So someoine move it but let's carry on. There are an awful lot of ifs in this discussion, but i reckon that even if Hitler had gotten GB, he would have lost. His deteriorating condition, combined with the involvement of Russia too soon, and Japan dragging in America, meant one conclusion, and one conclusion only, defeat for Germany.

If hitler had not gone after Russia and the Japanese had stayed put, the Americans did not want to get involved and Hitler would have conquered Europe. We are just lucky he was a maniac that bit off more than he could chew.
