the_mask Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 Ok, to check out my Golan III model I replaced the Imp Dreadnought with it. Then I usually continue the game I currently play with the Rebels. After having almost every sector (large game) under my control, the AI has about 3, or 4 sectors left. Suddenly when I loaded my savegame a little diplomacy-fleet, including two Mc80s, a Medium Transport, a Bulk Transport, a Corvette, a Bulk cruiser and about 6 Xwing squads got ambushed by an imperial fleet. The imp fleet consisted of an Interdictor, two Lancers an equal amount of Starfighters and 16 Dreadnoughts, that were now Golan IIIs. http://members.xoom.it/d_kelley/rebellion/screenshots/strategy1.jpgI was trapped with my little fleet and best of all I had Mon Mothma, Drayson and Willard on board as well. So I tried the panic option: destroy the INT and get the hell outa there. To match the Golan's profile I already edited their card, so that one alone could keep two ISDs busy and with 16 of these monsters and the INT hiding beside them, there wasn't really a chance to destroy it with my capital ships and have enough hull left to jump back out. So I sent in all of my fighters. Halfway they met their imperial colleagues and were decimated by one squadron before they even reached the INT. Being in the reach of the Golans (those had no propulson, just hyperdrives), the fighters also had to deal with their shots as well. After liberating the INT of its shields my last Xwing squadron was blown to dust and the inhibitor field of the INT still there. http://members.xoom.it/d_kelley/rebellion/screenshots/strategy2.jpgWithout another option I brought my capital ships in and presented the slightly armed transports as cannon fodder for the Golans while the Mc80s carrying my personnel should destroy the INT. The AI didn't take the bait and the Golans started shooting at the MonCal cruisers instead. Every ship got destroyed, Drayson and Willard were killed and Mon Mothma captured Now I was really motivated to escape out of this situation with all the personnel alive, so I loaded the savegame again. The imps showed up again and they still had the same fleet. This time I tried a diffent approach: I kept all my ships and fighters at the spot, where they came into the battlefield. The AI sent all its fighters after me and I decimated them with my ships and my own starfighters. After that I had about 1 or two squadrons left and only taken out the computer's fighter cover, but without another option, or so he thought, the computer brought in the INT and the two lancers to take shots at my fleet. While only having two damaged squadrons of fighters I let them dock with my cruisers, cause the Lancers usually take them out pretty fast. When they were in reach I opened fire on the INT and ignored the Lancers completely. After I finished the Interdictor I also got rid of the Lancers, that had a hard time piercing the shields of my cruisers with their laser batteries. Now I really felt cocky and considered to at least damage one of the Golans, but after taking another good look at their assembly, I decided to end a battle I could not win and to jump back to hyperspace. The Golans will still be around, when I return with a fleet that'll match their stats http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
UntimelyDemise Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 An excellent strategy. Quick thinking about not moving...let the enemy come to you and stay out of the range of the non-mobile killers! I love it! Guest JediIgor Posted November 24, 2002 Posted November 24, 2002 If the GOLANs are immobile, then how did the Imps move it?
the_mask Posted November 25, 2002 Author Posted November 25, 2002 Jahled, try to copy the text, then paste it in a new browser window, that worked for me Elvis, yep. But I'm very patient Igor, the Golans didn't move, but the support vessels (INT and Lancers) could do that. The Golans just rotated http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif

the_mask Posted November 26, 2002 Author Posted November 26, 2002 Well, like presenting a relatively undefended part as a bait and then luring the attacker back into the range of the rest of your fleet. Of course this would only work well with the AI. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif

Loserboy Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 I've been wondering. I'm assuming golans have hyperdrive (or ar dragged around by heavy lifters), so you can also protect planets without shipyards. And they can't move It be kinda stupid to have battle stations wandering about the tactical map. What happens if the rebs. attack a planet of mine defended by 3 golans, with a force comprising of several golans and a corv. The corv will probably get smashed in 3 secs, but what happens then. The golans are gonna be out of range of each other and they can't move. Endless battle with the Imps and Rebs sending insults over the comm. "your father smelled of wet Ewok fur and your mother was a space hamster you rebel cretin? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------If the shoe fits, get another one just like it.
Trejiuvanat Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 You know what you imperial son of Hutt, KISS MY WOOKIEE! http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
Trejiuvanat Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 I doubt the battle will have an end. Although I have seen that you can't completely get their sublight speed to 0, nor hyperdrive for that matter. The Golan will try to meet each other, it certainly will be a sluggish match, wht I would suggest is to get the immediate result, if you have more starfighters or better starfighter I guess the attackers will flee the system. http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted December 4, 2002 Posted December 4, 2002 oooh, i hadn't thought of that. That could be fun though. Something for Reb II - the best insults increase your xp's because they inspire your team!!! Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
the_mask Posted December 4, 2002 Author Posted December 4, 2002 Well yes, the immediate result would be the best and only solution to this ( damn, didn't think of that possibility). http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Don't worry, it's a valid situation, though really if you want to be fair, only move Golans to planets that you control. Something for Reb II, one of the new planetary defences could be Golan I II and III, and you should be able to see them in a battle and they can be controlled in a battle, as should planetary batteries. Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
the_mask Posted December 18, 2002 Author Posted December 18, 2002 Amen ! http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif

the_mask Posted January 7, 2003 Author Posted January 7, 2003 Although this is an old topic, I never was quite satisfied with not being able to show the pics here "live". But now it seems I've found another provider with remote linking, so here's how it looked, when those Golans arrived http://home.graffiti.net/d_kelley/strategy1.jpg and this was when I tried to bring the INT down with my fighters http://home.graffiti.net/d_kelley/strategy2.jpg http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Lord_La_forge Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 A fleet, full of Golan stations? Hmm.... I think we should than limit it's number, like in MoO2.A planet only had one station. With no hyperdrive, ofcourse, but with self destruct capability...
