Barkoa Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 Mine are some greek letter and something else, like the Tau Enforcer or something like that. I also have used Sirius as the name for commanding ships. "Be at peace, for the force is my ally and I shall not let anything happen out of my contol."-Barkoa
dmfitz29 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 I especially like "Arc Hammar" two posts up Nice work. Do you ever name the death star? I have noticed the computer does.
TK421 Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Well, you can't really call that a name... Death Star I and Death Star II and Death Star III and Death Star IV... Z'anthr saves the world. Sorry about the mess...
BadSamaritan Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 I usually have each fleet named after a different theme. One fleet will be marvel comicbook chars, another fleet will have the names of football teams. its makes things easier, albight not very realistic. I once knew a great man. Nothing got to him, and he always smiled. May he forever rest in peace, knowing fully well that his freinds shall remember him.
SOCL Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Pity, on my parents computer is a file with the complete list of all Star Destroyer names to ever appear in anything Star Wars (novels, movies, comics, etc.). If I can somehow get that file (along witha dozen others I need), I'll post it up. And, no, this wasn't something I did on my own, it was a file I did as a hobby for a guy who ran a website solely about Star Destoryers...the websites down by now. Krytos Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 Yeah, naming ships is half the fun! Seriously though, I find it extremely helpful to name at least my hero ships and flagships to know if they were damged or destroye etc.For example, when you get the message: "Dauntless Cruiser 12 has completed all repairs" you better remember where and what your 12 Dauntless was upto. Though, something to the extent of "Imperial Tempest has completed all repairs" - it usually clicks that it's an important ship and where it may be stationed. Those are my thoughts at least P.S. Hey SOCL, Imperial Tempest is a cool name - Ticonderoga reminds me too much of Starship Troopers and modern naval ships. http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
spaceguy19 Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 wow quite a list y'all have compiled here.... I like to stay with the theme as much as possible so I use names from the books and games. My actual list is alot longer but here are some of the names I didn't notice listed elsewhere: "Red Wind" (the original was NEB-B, but I use for for corvette's too)"Protector""Guardian""Salvation""Mon Remonda" (Mon Calamari class obviously)"Charger" "Ram's Head""Mustang""Rebel's Revenge""Mon Dolthamire" (I think I just made that one up on the spot a while back)"Destiny" (or "Destiny One" depending on the ship class)"Battle Axe""Colt""Challenger""Cutlass" ....hopefully those were all new, I have an Imperial list somewhere but I've long since lost it. Not like the imp ships are that hard to name anyways. If my list ever does get exhausted I fall back on car names (e.g. Impala, Taurus, Pathfinder, Camero, Barricuda, Torino, Superbird, and Firebird...to name a few)
Jahled Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 I especially like "Arc Hammar" two posts up Nice work. Do you ever name the death star? I have noticed the computer does. Given the amount of resources building a Death Star costs you, I generally never get around to having enough cash to build one under normal circumstances... I invest more in troops and special forces. However, recent experiments to play the game with original stats have reduced me to tears of 'nothing's happened for fifteen minutes of real life,' so i've reverted back to half stats all round; which roughly means i'll be naming my first Death Star; 'The Death Star.' http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
BadSamaritan Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 If I am trying to keep things simple, I name ships after planets of the sector they are stationed in. It makes it easier to fgure out where to send ships after they are repaired, or after a campaign. If I am trying to keep myself confused as to where my ships belong, I look to actual ship names. My two favorites are the Bismark and the Constitution. Although I am fond of using Russian ship names. I once found a list for all the names of Germanys dreadnought fleet from WWI, and used that for ship names. That got hard to deal with however. I wonder if I still have that list.... I once knew a great man. Nothing got to him, and he always smiled. May he forever rest in peace, knowing fully well that his freinds shall remember him.
SOCL Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 Concerning the thread's topic, if you're looking for the name of Star Destroyers and Mon Cal cruisers, check out this site. Other than containing an all right amount of information concerning stats for these two class of warships, you'll also find pretty much complete (other than NJO series) lists of Star Destroyers and Mon Cal cruiser names. ConkertheGreat Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I generally try to have humorous names, but this time around I named some of the ships after characters in certain TV shows. Defender_16 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Playing the Imperials I only name Destroyers. (I end up building enough of them that I can't waste time naming smaller ships.) I use classic names from the movies first then progress into those from the X-wing and Thrawn books. As the Rebellion I name all Mon Cal Cruisers and any equal or heavier ship. Again I try to keep with names from the movies and books. Sometimes I'll name smaller rebel ships if a cool name comes to mind or if I remember an equivilant book name. If I can't come up with a name when it's being built I just go with the XWA ship designation and a number. I put class designation in front of most ship names so that I can more easily keep track of them. budious Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I just name them all the same to confuse peeps in multiplayer "In the future it will become easier for old negatives to become lost and be 'replaced' by new altered negatives. Defender_16 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 *Looks above* I HATE it when people do that. My dad did that one time when we were playing against each other. (In retaliation I changed the numbers on some of my un-named Destroyers into the hundred range.) Fleet 29 VSD: Red Gauntlet Imperial Star Destroyer 49 Imperial Star Destroyer 81Imperial Star Destroyer 125 I'd sometimes change the numbers to those he hadn't seen before just to make him think I had a fleet that size. How do you have enough maintinence points for a fleet that big?!? Star Galleon - Solaris No! Not Solaris! I hated that movie!
DarthTex Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 When playing as the Empire, I prefer to name my ISD's using the international alpha code: Alpha, Baker, Charlie, Delta, Echo, ....Other Imperial ships classes (if worthy) get typical Imperial names, mythological creatures, or carnivore names. For the Alliance, I like to name the escort carriers and Liberator cruisers after WWII US aircraft carriers: Enterprise, Lexington, Yorktown, Wasp, Hornet, etc. Big cruisers and heavy ships get state names (similar to WWII US battleships). Other ships get animal names or ancient weapon names. Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?
Darth_spartacus Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Yeah I never really thought of naming my ships the same or using Star Destroyer 114 and so forth to inflate my numbers... not that I'll really be able to .... none of my friends really like the game and I can never really get the multiplayer to work .... but thanks for the ideas - But it was so artfully done..,
