Death Star

From Star Wars: Rebellion Wiki Original 1.02 & 25th Anniversary

Death Star is an Imperial capital ship in Star Wars: Rebellion. The in-game encyclopedia describes an enormous battle station 120 kilometers across, the peak of Imperial engineering. Chief Engineer Bevel Lemelisk designed it, and it was built above the penal colony of Despyre. Grand Moff Tarkin saw it as the ultimate symbol of rule by fear. It had a crew of over 750,000 and enough firepower to destroy a whole system. Tarkin showed its power by destroying Alderaan to pressure Princess Leia Organa into revealing the Alliance base. Its superlaser and many surface turbolasers defend it against large attacks, but it seems open to attack by small starfighters. It was later destroyed in the Battle of Yavin, where Tarkin died. The text says it is not known how many more Death Stars he had under construction.

In the game

The Death Star costs 584 refined material to build and 600 to maintain. It has a fighter capacity of 24 and a troop capacity of 18. Its shield strength is 2000.

The infobox values come from the game's data file. Ratings such as hyperdrive and maneuverability are internal numbers that the manual does not explain, so they are best used to compare ships.

The manual says the Empire can build the Death Star, but it needs huge resources and a long time. It is best used as a threat, since its presence makes garrisons better at preventing uprisings. Destroying a system with it sharply lowers popular support across the galaxy, so the manual advises saving that for heavily defended Alliance strongholds. It can also join an offensive fleet and bombard planets before an assault. Alliance players can try a Death Star Sabotage mission, or send fighters on a Death Star run in a tactical battle. Only Death Star shields on the same system protect it from such attacks, and sabotage is then the only way to destroy it. The manual's ship table gives the same capacity: 24 fighters and 18 troops.

25th Anniversary patch

The Death Star is an enormous space station and superweapon built by the Imperial Department of Military Research, Sienar Fleet Systems and other contractors for the Galactic Empire.

A giant space station armed with a superweapon, the Death Star stood as the high point of the Galactic Empire's drive for supremacy, built to spread fear and put down rebellion by being able to destroy planets. It was finished around ABY 0 and became a focus of the Galactic Civil War. The planet Alderaan was its first and only target, which demonstrated what it could do. Yet it also came to represent Imperial arrogance, since the Rebel Alliance exploited a serious flaw to destroy it at the Battle of Yavin. That event marked a major shift in the conflict and encouraged resistance across the galaxy.
