Ilum
Ilum is a cold, forested tundra planet inhabited by humans, whose economy centers on the extraction of kyber crystals, the gemstones that serve as the heart of lightsabers.
Ilum is a star system in the 25th Anniversary patch 3.0.9770. It takes the slot that the original game gives to Corstris.
History
Ilum kept its long-standing status as a holy site where Jedi came to gather the crystals for building their own lightsabers. Once the Empire rose and the Jedi were hunted down, that role faded. Imperial crews instead mined the world for its resources, aiming to use the crystals in several projects, superweapons among them. Through the years of the Galactic Civil War the planet stayed a disputed source of these scarce, potent gems.
In the game
In the patch's default ("compatible") galaxy the system keeps its slot's sector and map position. The patch calls its sector the Unknown Regions sector; the original game calls it the Quelli sector. The patch also has an optional "accurate" galaxy that changes map positions only.
