Bespin (25th Anniversary patch)

Bespin is a gas giant populated by Humans and Ugnaughts, whose economy depends on tibanna gas. Its best-known settlement is Cloud City.

Bespin is a star system in the 25th Anniversary patch 3.0.9770. It takes the slot that the original game gives to Derra IV.

History

Bespin was home to Cloud City, a major site for mining and refining tibanna gas. Its Baron Administrator, Lando Calrissian, worked to keep the city independent and prosperous. The authoritarian regime, however, grew interested in the strategically valuable site and sent more military forces. Calrissian tried negotiating and maneuvering through the city's politics and ended up in an uneasy alliance with that regime. Meanwhile local Ugnaught workers kept performing their essential tasks, helping to extract and refine the precious gas.

In the game

In the patch's default ("compatible") galaxy the system keeps its slot's sector and map position. The patch calls its sector the Western Reaches sector; the original game calls it the Kanchen sector. The patch also has an optional "accurate" galaxy that changes map positions only.
