I was reading Wookiepedia...and I was saddened...

 

I learned what really happened to the new republic.

 

After the defeat of the Galactic Empire, the new republic was fromed. A few years  later, an alien species devasted the new republic but the republic won barley but they were weak now. The reminats of the former galactic empire got together and allied with the sith to destroy the repubic, and they suceeded...

 

The galactic empire returned to power once again...

first of all, don't belive anything that comes from wookiepedia. Secondly the EU universe is a matter of one's own opinon. If you don't want chewie to die then in your mind he never died. or any other bogus EU stuff

About half-way through the vong war the New Republic and the imperial rement allied together to form the gatattic allinane to fight the vong. now at some point durning the next 50 or so years the GA falls and this new empire forms. this new empire fights the sith.

Making the Alliance galactic

 

The new government would not be composed of just the old members of the New Republic. Bringing their former adversary, the Imperial Remnant, as well as the Hapes Consortium into the new government, the Alliance achieved what previous governments had long hoped for—a unified government of the known Galaxy. This was further achieved with the cooperation of the Chiss Ascendancy, an insular civilization from the Unknown Regions on the edge of the Galaxy.

 

The new Empire

 

Over the years, the Imperial Remnant somehow regained power over several worlds. The Remnant slowly began to re-establish itself as an Empire once again.

 

The resurgent Empire used this situation to draw in the Alliance's member worlds. Invoking the Treaty of Anaxes, the new Empire declared war on the Galactic Alliance. Weakened by internal separatist movements among some of its member worlds, the Alliance and the Jedi Order steadily began losing ground.

 

Eventually, the Sith-Imperial War resulted in the fall of Coruscant, and the reestablishment of the Empire as the primary galactic government, operating out of the galactic capital world. The Alliance's remaining worlds surrendered and were absorbed into the Empire. Yet, the remnants of the Alliance military, in the form of the Galactic Alliance Core Forces, remained to fight the Empire.

Did Pallaeon side with the New Republic? or did he lead the Remnant?

he lead the Remnant untill the GA was fromed then he was supreme commander of that for a bit then he retired then he took back the supreme commander postion after the current one was killed. at the time of the LotF books he might still be supreme commander im not sure(ive only read the first one - still waiting for the second one to come to Australia :'()

Ahem, anyway, I'm glad that the Galactic Alliance was dealt the Death card by the new Sith-Empire alliance. It's about time the baddies won for a change. It'll make the good-guy comeback that much better when it happens. ;D I'm sick of Light Side endings...we need some Darkness! w00t!
