well if you are expecting a star wars universe that is strictly to the movies/story your going to be disappointed. sure you could try to recreate the movies, but this game is more of a you do what you want with it kind of thing. i think it would be cool to add extra shields and weapons to my ships, to make a turtle group, a pretty versatile group and so on. its like the specialazation you got in DoW and i think it will do well.

Story-wise is not the issue here though.

 

It's the silly idea that you can replace weaponary and put other shit on established vehicles and ships.

didn't know you could do that on here, reminds me of the total war games where you can upgrade armors, and weaponry.

The Sds can all have different loads. Some will be bristling with weapons while others with have better shields

I think what they ment by upgrading weapons and shields though is that you can't change them out but you can boost there defensive/offensive powers.

The way it sounds is that you can customize each hardpoint on your ships, not just upgrading your weapons and shields.

Garbageben is right, not only can u do upgrades, u can also specify the hardpoint layout, if u want more ion cannons, hull armor, shields, ect, if i remember correcly.

ouch, that made me kind of disapointed, maybe they can mod it after it comes out and take out the upgradable ion cannons and things, even though it would be cool it would kick the challenging part of the game out the door.

Actually there's a lot of examples in the EU of ships being customized for specific mission assignments. Having upgrades to existing ship hardpoints probably would have been common place. I remember some intelligence types talking about identfying ships by specific upgrades on vessels in the Black Fleet Crisis books.

 

The good news with this is that it sounds like the likelyhood of us being able to name individual ships is higher. I mean how hard would it be to edit a string for the name of a vessel compared to customizing the loadout of each hardpoint?
