I consider myself a Star Wars fan. I do my best to like everything w/ the Star Wars name on it. The prequals are something I still struggle w/, though.

Scummy George Lucas and his cash grabbing antics!

I heard a rumour that the Bloodlines won't be coming out in paperback at all. Same goes for the fourth one in the series, by that I mean the next one to be released. So say the folks at the bookstore where I work... I hope it's not true.

Not true- I saw Bloodlines in paperback at my local bookstore. Didn't buy it on account of not having read enough of the E.U. to fully understand it (In addittion to only having about $50 to spend) but I saw it in paperback.

My mistake. I meant to say Betrayal, the first in the series. Bloodlines was, in fact, a straight-to-paperback (mass-market) release, just like the recent one, Tempest.

All the hardbacks will come to mass market paperback.. eventually. Considering I would have to wait another 6 months to get the first one, Betrayal, and I had time this break.. I went ahead and bought the first hardcover and next two paperbacks. There will be another paperback before a hardback in the middle, then 3 paperbacks, then the finale hardback.

So far, the series seems very political, since they are really fighting themselves. It seems hard to feel for any one side except: knowing the Jacen is being manipulated and Alema Rar is back against them. Like NJO, I will have to reread these books before I make a critique of the series. There's a lot to like, a lot to hate. Jacen is certainly the protagonist of this story, Jaina is just swept aside.

While the writing styles are different, it seems much more akin to the Corellian trilogy or the Black Fleet Crisis. It isn't so much the battles and raw conflicts like in NJO, but more politics and talking. On some parts, I feel it is a critique (or at least strong mirror) to today's "War on Terror"

Well that's my current opinion, having read once through Betrayal, Bloodlines, and Tempest.

Evaders, I bought Betrayal and put it aside as I was rereading the Thrawn Trilogy again. Only reason I bought it was they said in the review in SW Insider that Lumiya (a Favorite of mine) was in it. How often is she mentioned? - Grand Moff Conway

Lumiya is back (although she isn't revealed by that name until the end) to help Jacen become a Sith Lord. Trust me, she's a pretty important character to the whole series. You won't be disappointed there

To tell you the truth, despite my cynical and general discontent with the NJO, I'm actually looking forward to reading the Legacy series. It just seems like the more mature Star Wars for the 21st Century, going it's own way rather than trying to hold on to the same line of dialog from the original trilogy. That probably contradicts my critique of the NJO in an earlier post, but I have gotten the same impression as Evaders, namely that it's more similar to the Black Fleet Crisis, a trilogy I actually enjoyed thoroughly. Plus, I like politics and such and their development, namely the way the comics allude to the Galactic Alliance become or being overtaken by the Empire...

They were good, but there's only one Traitor in the whole bunch.

Yes, and I'm glad for that.

It's like 'where have I seen this scenario before?' Closest thing that comes to mind for me was an incedent in Gundam Wing but I'll leave that be.

*SPOILERS*

Jacen: Hey look! I wanna join sides with the Yuuzhan Vong!

Vergere: Hes not lying... honest... (Everything I say is I lie, everything I say is the truth...) mumble...

Vong: Wellllll... maybe.

Jacen: I'll be good! Honest!

Vong: I suppose we can try it out.

Jacen: Hey look, I betrayed the Jedi with the worst danger sense to you.

Vong: Should we kill him?

Jacen: Maybe we could try sacrificing him in the one place where I could ruin all of your plans? Could I?

Most of the series was good I found though I started to notice the creeping hand of GL at work as thing went on, trying to adjust the timeline to better fit his prequel movies.

"Oh hey, an acclimator transport, that's odd we havent ever seen one of those over the course of THIRTY PLUS YEARS OF STORIES BASED ON THE ORIGINAL MOVIES!?"

Can't believe they killed off Anakin.

GL: "People might get Anakin Solo and Anakin Skywalker mixed up, Let's kill him off."

Can't believe they killed off Anakin. )*@#&$)$&$)!

The ending for the series seemed a tad quick but it was still good overall.

I'm kinda glad that they killed Anakin, though I have mixed feelings about how they did it. I finally finished Star by Star, which is the second-worst book in the series so far as I've read. (Balance Point was also crap) The huge continuity errors within his own book annoyed the crap out of me, with everything from T-21 blasters that can apparently get through Vondum Crab Armor to Anakin's lightsaber being "Scarlet" at one point, to any and all Twileks knowing their way around anything and everything that's underground, to Luke turning three squadrons of fighters into two fifteen-fighter squadrons, and then sending two squadrons one way and a third another.

That said, it was good to see another major character die. Things were softening up since the Dark Tide Duology, and unless you had read "I, Jedi" Elegos's death didn't hurt very much at all. Anakin and Borsk dieing, Coruscant being taken over- all of those things were designed to shock and to hurt slightly, and they did.

The things that I think Troy Dennings managed to do right: A sense of hopelessness and despair, a sense of sadness as people died, and desperation.

Things I think he did wrong: Any sense of continuity, basing the book on a Rambo movie for the most part, poor character interaction and speech, (Honestly, how hard is it to make "It is" into "It's" for more natural speech?!) and basing most of the book off of the "Young Jedi Knight" books.

Elegos' death meant more to me, but likely because I had first met him as the tragic figure of the Hand of Thrawn trilogy and not the over-glorified politician he was made out to be in I, Jedi (italicized or underlined, Tofu: it's a book ), but that might just be my anti-Stackpole bias coming out... Further, he was the only character throughout most of Star Wars who when he said he wanted to find a peaceful means to a peaceful resolution, he truly meant it. Not like the Jedi and, dare I say, every character who said they wanted a peaceful resolution and a peaceful means to the same, but gave up on that on page 5.

I'm behind by about 30 books. Those are the Sith/OR Era and Legacy Era books. Granted, there are a couple NR books I don't own. I'm still totally lost when you guys start talking about the Legacy books.

yeah.. and he died.

but you're right about the Jedi.. *cheer for Kyp Durron*

Mixed Feelings. Loved some of it. didn't like the death of chewy. but overall a good read. reading the dark nest trilogy now. was thinking of skipping it but so much of legacy is bound to it. thought I better read it. not to bad. I really liked Bloodlines and the story of Fett and his family.

I was ticked at Destiny's Way's errors with regards to consistency and science on some things (Corran Horn apparently commands Rogue Squadron, and the New Republic can control captured Dovin Basals... And silver apparently make tremendously strong alloys. Oh, yes, and there's an element called "bronzium," now.) but overall thought it had good political stuff- it's rather odd when you read it and compare it to U.S. and British Government systems...

Now I'm on the Force Heretic trilogy... Haven't started yet, primarily because I have lots of homework and small amounts of self-control. to resist the urge to read a good book...

Besides, I've been reading too many of those books lately. I actually had to stop myself from telling someone that I got the holo...
