August 31, 200422 yr I know that it is perhaps one of the geekiest things you can do, but I'm an avid re-enactor, and I'm wondering if there are any others here. If you're in europe, I guess the only thing you'd be re-enacting is the Napoleanic Wars, which tie in nicely with the most popular re-enactment here in Canada, the War of 1812. There are also some American Civil War re-enactments, though I'm not sure why (not that it's not important, but why would we do it in Canada?). History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
September 1, 200422 yr DO participate alot in this kinda thing? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
September 3, 200422 yr I know that it is perhaps one of the geekiest things you can do, but I'm an avid re-enactor... Indeed it is... If you're in europe, I guess the only thing you'd be re-enacting is the Napoleanic Wars... How so?
September 3, 200422 yr If you're in europe, I guess the only thing you'd be re-enacting is the Napoleanic Wars... How so?Because appart from the WWII its all you can do to reenact major battles. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
September 3, 200422 yr Come again?! You guys must be joking! Apart from there being multiple less known European wars one could re-enact, you're forgetting WWI and the 100-years War between England and France, as well as the 80-years War!
September 3, 200422 yr Author The only wars people tend to re-enact are those that are considered major. The little wars between countries (such as the war between the Netherlands and Gelgium) don't have a big "fan-base", and equipment for those would be almost impossible to find. There are WW I and WW II re-enactments, but for some reason, despite the simplicity of the uniforms and equipment, they are very expensive to prepare for. Anything that is pre-musket in th eway of weaponry is only popular with a small (Like, maybe 5,000 people total) group of fanatics. This is mostly because it's hard to fire off blanks with bows, and swords can cause real damage. Thus, the most popular wars to re-enact are those that revolve around the Napoleonic wars. History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
September 3, 200422 yr I see. I didn't know that but then again, I'm not what you'd call an expert on re-anaction...
September 4, 200422 yr In Switzerland I guess you could always react the battle of hoth http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
September 4, 200422 yr Yes, and the Jabba the Hutt scene in Egypt, the battle of Endor in the Amazon, etc. By the way, are there any Star Wars re-enactors?
September 27, 200422 yr I am--was a Roman re-enactor (I don't think I'm a part any longer since I went M.I.A. ). By the way, are there any Star Wars re-enactors?That depends by what you mean by "re-enactors". If you mean people like us who run around dressed-up as Jedi or Stormtroopers and correct people on Imperial ranks and insignia, then yes, there are. If you mean re-enactors like people who re-enact battles of the world wars or whatnot, then...well...I doubt it (after all, where are you going to get a real-life Dewback to re-enact scenes on Tatooine?). September 27, 200422 yr Author I could fly to British Colombia (west coast of Canada) and re-enact the Battle of Endor where it "took place"... not sure how I'd get my hands on some AT-ST's... or speederbikes... or Ewoks... maybe some vertically challenged people would volunteer for the latter. The re-enactment season is getting warmed up. I've just recieved my new sword: http://www.militaryheritage.com/images/1803sword1.jpg I't quite nice, but cost a fortune. History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

October 22, 200421 yr Enhough Dewbacks and Ewoks on these forums, it's the vehicles that provide the challenge...Hillarious! I'll go ahead and post this on the re-enactment thread. Here are a few pictures of Roman Re-Enactors from the event that occured last weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Sadly, they would not allow me to be Caesar and instead chose a guy who, close up, looks like Palpatine. I'm actually in a few pictures at this website, but sadly the pictures are few and normally at a distance or from behind. For instance, in this picture, I'm the legionaire who's in the closest to the camera and looking down. In this other one, I'm the standard bearer on the far left. It was A LOT of fun, and I'll be attending another event in November. SOCL: Putting the BE in BEAK.Read the Forum Rules - Welcome the New Members - Rebellion Reloaded -
October 22, 200421 yr Author Wow, looks like fun! Did you have to supply your own armor, or do they do that? Are there mock battles? Andy why do we never see your face? It's always convenientley hidden . I think I'll stick to my 1812, as much fun as Rome looks. I like the pomp of being an officer . History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
October 22, 200421 yr That depends by what you mean by "re-enactors". If you mean people like us who run around dressed-up as Jedi or Stormtroopers and correct people on Imperial ranks and insignia Those would be simple fans or members of http://www.501st.com/default.html or of the http://www.rebellegion.com/This is surely one of the smallest Imperial garrisons ever http://home.intergga.ch/SwissGarrison3/home.html And a question i have been wondering about for a long time. How do you do to have a simple word as URL instead of typing the entire adress? Like SOCL did before. Neat sword GAT. How much did it cost ? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
October 22, 200421 yr Author There is one member of that Swiss regiment who looks creapily like a WWII German Lieutenant. If you want to have one word as a link type "whatever word(s) you want the link to be". Makes posts look much nicer . The sword I bough came to about $320 thanks to the 15% tax here in Ontario. Quite worth it. I'll take some pictures at my next event and post them. EDIT:Mad, you have to find out where they are holding their events (the Swiss regiment), and give that Thrawn imposter the what-for! His uniform is terrible. It's far too big. Looks like he was overweight and lost a few pounds without getting a new uniform! History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
October 23, 200421 yr i believe most of the members live in the german speaking area. And a meeting ywould surely end like this:"Your costume looks too large, tighten the hips and lose weight.""Wos? (was but in local dialect)" http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
October 27, 200421 yr Did you have to supply your own armor, or do they do that?I don't own the armor (lorica segmata) or the helmet (Gallic H model), but everything else I own. I made the tunic you see me wearing by hand and purchased the belt, the sandals (caligae), and my sword (gladius, model pompeii). I still lack a dagger (pugio) and those items which I borrowed (armor and helmet). I should be getting my hands on a few soon enough. And a question i have been wondering about for a long time. How do you do to have a simple word as URL instead of typing the entire adress? Like SOCL did before. You simply type "URL[/i]]. After the closed bracket, type in some text, and then finish it with. So it comes out like this:URL[/i]]text Andy why do we never see your face? It's always convenientley hidden .Well, my name isn't Andy, but I'm pretty much a newbie and so didn't have anyone around I knew that well.We do expect some face fottage next time, SOCL!Yes, don't worry, I'll have some soon enough. October 27, 200421 yr By the way, new pictures were added to the website with the Roman event, totally 72 so far. Interestingly enough, there's another picture of me. I'm the legionaire on the right and the lady on the left, nearly out of frame, is my girlfriend, Becca. October 28, 200421 yr Who won in the end?Sadly, there was no victor or loser. The match was supposed to be a demonstration for the Emperor, but the lead actress's character, according to the story, got carried away and nearly slit the throat of Bosarius (who was played by the executive producer, Gary Barbosa). Had it not been for the quick-moving Gladiator master pulling the lead actress's character away, Bosarius would have been a pool of blood. It was actually rather interesting to watch, though just standing in the heat of the day with the duty of holding the crowd back was rather boring. I was hoping we would crucify the lead actress's character for disgracing a demonstration match before the emperor. By the way, that picture was taken during rehearsal. During the actual match, Bosarius had a huge helmet on so you couldn't see his face and we, the soldiers, were at attention. October 28, 200421 yr Is the person on your right in the picture taking a photo. Did they use Kodakus cameras? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
November 1, 200421 yr Is the person on your right in the picture taking a photo. Did they use Kodakus cameras? Of course. And, like everything else, it's made period authentic (wood frame, glass lens from Han China, and leather film). Back then they were called Kodakus camerus, which is where we get today's Kodak cameras. In fact, the Kodakus was a camera made by a man from southern Italy who was tired of having to chisel all his pictures and was disliking the Greek characteratures.... I plan on purchasing this standard scutum and Praetorian scutum for myself soon. Additionally, I'll be getting a an Imperial Gallic H helmet and the vital lorica segmentata. All of this through my legion commander, Dan Peterson, who is a consultant for the company that makes all this stuff and, thus, can get me a pretty good deal on all of it.
