I have the guide...but its real title is THe Essential Guide to Alien SPecies...so they didn't include humans. the closest i got to an answer in there is that human colonists arrived on Alderaan 27,500 years before the battle of Yavin.

So what do we know for certain about the Pre-Republic humans?

    They settled Alderaan
An alien species took them to settle Corellia
They learned spacefaring secrets from the Duro.
They expanded themselves in the Core

Some questions that linger in my mind:

Was Xim the Despot a human? Were humans a majority in his Tion Hegemony Empire?

Why have humans not evolved in 25000 years, I mean 25000 years ago we were just homo sapiens.

Perhaps they have. Since there are no records of pre-rupublic humanity, they may have gone through the same evolution as us. Aslo, all of the people in the SW universe seem pretty smart, I mean, look at all of the knowledge they have about starships and what not. Gaining access to the Force would also be a huge evolutionary step. Some humans may have evolved into other aliens, such as the Bothans, or even the Chiss.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

As was I, though once Zenoma Sekot wast introduced, the rest was sort of obvious. I think the reason the Vong weren't the next evolutionary step from Humans was the trouble of explaining how they left the galaxy and returned. It would not only take too long, but then they would have to explain why no treace of them was found.

i agree about sekot, from the time that was introduced it became fairly obvious....though i was almost hoping the vong would be almost like a bridge between how humans could exist on earth and also in a galaxy far far away...ie humans left the SW galaxy long ago, one group heading to earth and losing/abandoning the advanced tech, and the other moving to a different planet and somehow evolving into the vong

About evolving. They did. But not all of them. The ones who evolved to gain increased brain capacities became the jedi.

And maybe the humans evolved FROM the bothans or the chiss.

I'm still not buying that biologic explanation of the Force, it just seems stupid, about Bothan, I don't think that they could be related to humans. Chiss, on the other hand may be a race of human origin that adapted itself to the harsh conditions on Csilla.

maybe it helps with the glare off the ice...or better night vision...i'd imagine the first tunnels they dug underground were dark for quite awhile

I think there was mention that the Chiss had better eye-sight than humans. It would also explain why they make such good pilots. It is also more likely that the Chiss evolved from humans, since they have so many improvements upon the human body (better reflexes, eyesight, intellignece, longer life span)

SoT, I doubt there will ever be a link between the SW universe and ours. The fact that is says "A galaxy far, far away" doesn't mean that it is even in our universe (hence the "Star Wars Universe"). And it would be sort of counter-productive because it would destroy the fantasy of the whole thing.

i know that it prolly will never be explained...but i've always wondered how a species would evolve in two seperate galaxies so far away...i know that humans are a lot cheaper to use in films, but i would like to hear at least some attempt at an explanation, and one of the ones that has always appealed to me is some sort of direct connection between Earth and the SW galaxy in the distant past....the events of Zomama Sekot and the Vong would seem to make this at least a possibility, and would invite at least some potential for a new storyline.
A more likely explaination is that we exist in alternate dimensions. Note that we call it the "Star Wars Universe", not Galaxy. This in and of its self implies a different dimension (since ony once universe can exist because it is the culmination of all that is). Therefor there isn't any thing to really explain.

that is obviously a possibility, as the people of the SW galaxy have already breached the frontier from one universe to another...as i understand it, hyperspace is a different universe
Hyperspace is sort of a sub-layer of the universe, similar to Star Trek's subspace. It is an alternate dimension that exists within the SW dimension (as proven by the effect of gravity in regular space on hyperspace). You could use hyperspace to gain access to other dimensions. Perhaps humans arrived here through a mistake in hyperspace calculations.

I've always liked an explanation like that, as it also helps explain why there are so many humanoid species in the SW galaxy, and so few "human-like" animals here on earth.
WHo knows how earth will look in 1 million years. I heared somewhere that it would be one big desert with oceans all around and tropical forest aroud the poles. I wonder how the humans shall look.

That will only betheresult if global warming occurs as predicted. Actually, there has been research done on gloabl warming, and the results show that the polar caps are getting colder, not warmer. I think you've been watching too much Judge Dread Mad  .

I think that with the current population growth, as well as up-and-comming technology we may well live on a planet that looks like Coruscant. We may have even managed to break the boundries of our solar system.

As long as we do not discovr a way to travel faster than the speed of light. I dubt there will be much chances of outer system travel. But they are frankly considering of having settlements on mars.

No, actually we don't need FTL. Only lots and lots of time. Using Ion drives, we could spped up a ship enough to reach Alpha Centauri in some forty, maybe even twenty years. That's not too bad. The only question is: Is it worth it?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/RiesstiuIV/Krempel/trapaure.gif
FTL travel is possible, the only problem is the Theory of Relativity. Sure there are some parts of it that have been proven wrong, but the fact that we can't accelerate to the speed of light is till a problem. We need to find a way to reach the speed of light without having to accelerate to it...
