So they asked him to read the script just to fill in. And it turned out that he read it best. Ah, you might already know that, but Lucas wasn't even considering Ford first, since he didn't want any actors, that had already been in one of his movies before (like in American Grafitti), but after having heard him he wouldn't have someone else. Also I can't say this too often, but I'm so glad, that Christopher Walken didn't play Luke.
