I'll look at a more subtle background then.

    HUD Graphics

Here's a little weekend present. SOGE_Imperials.rar Contains a new brushes and DDS texture, along with edited GameInfo entity files (so copy/backup your SOGE mod folder before extracting). Unzip the RAR file into the mod directory. I have done appropriate graphics for freighters, refinery ships and worker ships, but I believe ATM the moment they are shared entities between the factions (I could be wrong ), so if we want faction-specific images for them, we'll need individual entities. A sample is below: http://users.on.net/~ozwolf/soge/imperial_ships.png The background can be whatever we want. I can colour the ships, rather than give them a faction coloured glow. We can replace the planet background with faction symbols, such as we have above. I can also look at removing the in-game gloss texture for the HUD picture. Going to start work on the Alliance now. Cheers, OzWolf

No, I downsized this cut 'n' paste so as it didn't explode browsers. The original is 2048 pixels wide. I tried to get the ships on an angle, which unfortunately gave the Neb-B a pinched look due to it's size. I will look at downsizing the escort carrier so that it isn't so cut-off.

http://users.on.net/~ozwolf/images/sample.png This is a sample of what I'm working on. I've played with a number of designs, including colouring the ships vs having a background logo in the color of the faction. I like this one, but any thoughts appreciated. Cheers, OzWolf

    New Blood

Thanks Evaders. I have a concept HUD picture texture for the Empire, which I'll post when I get home. At the moment, it is just the new Imperial content. Haven't looked yet at doing the current in-game elements (shipyards, trade ports, etc.) to match the same style. The one thing I am doing (and love about the mod capabilities of this game) is trying to create new texture and brushes files, so I don't do anything to upset the game's original content.
  7. Hey guys, My name is OzWolf (obvious really) and I stuck my hand up to help work on the SOGE 2D elements to the game. I am a professional programmer and web developer, so I have had plenty of experience with graphics and coding, plus I reasonably well known in the Madden NFL modding circuit for the .NET applications I have built for editing/converting data in game files. I do have some modelling experience with 3D Studio Max (thank you university ) but my experience would put me squarely in the "so rusty, it's rustic" category. I love the SOGE mod and haven't played vanilla SotE since it had opposable Star Wars factions. Before sticking my hand up and volunteering, I did ensure I knew how to get the appropriate texture, entity and brushes files to work and have done a fair bit of prodding around the files. Anyway, glad to be able to finally contribute to the SOGE project and look forward to working with you all. Cheers, OzWolf
  8. Hey guys, Long time listener, first time caller Love the mod, and back in February, I made Evil an offer to do some graphics work for him on the SOGE mod. Unfortunately, work and a (rather enjoyable) overseas holiday interrupted that process, but I've got the time now to do some of the work I offered. Originally, I was looking at doing the buttons, but since coming back, have noticed that a splendid job has been done already though the fighter buttons are missing. So I'm looking to take up the mantle of doing the central HUD picture and icons. I'm going to be producing new DDS and TGA files for this. My intention is to do work by faction and have started work on the Imperials and nearly have the Imps HUD pictures done. When I complete a faction, I will release an appropriate zip with edited brushes, entity and texture files. I'm going to create seperate files that don't override base game files where I can. Anyway, thought I would say hello, reveal what I'm doing and I look forward to being able to finally contribute personally to a mod that I love. I haven't played vanilla SotE in eons Cheers, OzWolf
