  1. I like the destroyer designs. Are there going to be two classes (bulbous class, and non-bulbous class:)? The Nebula sketch looks the goods too. Chunkier, more capital-like, more star destroyerish etc. I always thought the originals were little on the slim side to be main ships-of-the-line.
  2. As my old P4 hobbles on its last legs, I once again am faced with the purchase of a new computer.......you beauty!!!! Now that I've got the means (employments a bitch but it means money), I can spend a bit of dosh on a new machine. In this department, I have two goals: 1) To catch up on the last 3 years worth of games, and then be battle-worthy against at least the next 3 years of increasingly ridiculous system requirements. 2) Have a system that will smoothly run large scale engagements in Warlords at wonderfully high resolutions (might be pipe dream ). I've got about 5000 or so (australian) bucks to spend so it'll be a reasonably silly (good) system. Now, here's the question - What would you get? The more feedback, the better the beast.
  3. A 9800 pro! You think that's bad, try a 9600XT in an old P4 and see what you get!!! ;D If the executor crosses the bow of the eclipse, it's over. One superlaser cooked super star destroyer coming right up! I think in a broadside confrontation though, the Executor wouldn't do so badly. It packs 250 heavy turbos, 250 regular turbos and 250 concussion missile launchers to the eclipse's 500 turbos and 500 lasers. The heavy turbolasers and concussion missiles would certainly help to shift the balance. Ultimately, the Executor would probably lose out to the Eclipse due to the latter's sheer bulk. The resulting damage from such a battle would be massive enough to mean that Eclipse wouldn't be going anywhere in a hurry in the immediate future, if at all. On that note, will there be a 'Duel' style of gameplay? The PDS crew have put together a brilliant menu system (version 7.3) so you can select 3 or 4 ships on each side to battle it out. If that, or something similar could be applied to Warlords..........drooling right now.
  4. works now.......that's bitchin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. The standard gametpye has always been the longest either against AI or another person. I like reinforcements to just sit back and watch fireworks against the computer.
  6. (after a couple of hours messing around wth trying to get the latest releases to work).........Whoa. Really frustrating. I found the warlords 4.5 launcher on Macologist and some threads regarding how to make your own launcher, but at the end of it all, surprise surprise, it didn't work. Don't suppose anyone out there is a Mac-User who can explain things in laymans english:-) ?
  7. Just bought HW2 for the Mac (VERY bored at work at the mo). Is there a way to port warlords over to it?
  8. excellent....except that I get this little message that says 'no ship param' and then the shockwave window remains blank.
  9. I like the idea. I suppose putting the 'true' amount of fighter squadrons (eg 6 squads in an ISD) would be too PC intensive, and things would get out of control too quickly in any event. But the idea of having capital ships with their own fighter screen is cool.....now all I need is a new computer:). -Freek's idea of an auto-docking feature would be cool too. More 'realistic' that a ship has to recover its fighters before jumping....I wonder if its possible to have a overrride button if this is added (Captain of a badly damaged ship screams "To hell with the fighters, just GET US OUT OF HERE!!!!!).
  10. Ion cannon effects i.e. electricity playing over the hull?
  11. Been mainly playing as the imps of late (case you didn't notice), and have been roadtesting the executor a bit. While it still puts the boot into the smaller stuff, it doesn't really seemed to have the rate of fire that it's armaments would indicate. It seems that the fastest firing, and most potent weapon it has are the ion cannon. When a bunch of Mon Cals (5) come into turbolaser range from the SSD's bow (or anywhere really), the executor doesn't really put out much fire in comparison - certainly not 250 class-10 turbo's and 250 class-5(?) turbo's worth at any rate (even taking into account that not every gun can be brought to bear). However, when it closes the range to use its ion cannon, the Executor cuts loose with a fire storm. The Mon Cals are each disable over a short period of time and then it's the long slog while it ponderously finishes them off with its turbolasers. To come to the point, the balance for the SSD doesn't seem quite right. The older version of the SSD really cut holes in any formation, whereas the new one doesn't seem to pack the same kind of punch. What do you guys think? (or more importantly, what do you think, Eville?)
  12. Couple of new ones. 1) The first is the Militia invincible dreadnaught. With the current release, the game crashes whenever you or AI tries to build it. My solution was to grab the ship file from the last microrelease and replace it (required some .big file unpacking and re-packing obviously). It seems to work fine now. 2) Still on the Militia, the game occasionally crashes for no apparent reason when these side is used by player or AI.
  13. Not sure if this is a bug, or an unavoidable Homeworld thing, but AI capital ships have this fetish for crashing their capital ships into mine. I watched three militia procurator destoyers followed one another into collision oblivion against an ISD II in the space of five minutes. The Star destroyer was completely undamaged!?!
  14. - Been pitting ISD II's against MC80's, and the 80's are still coming out on top. While this may be how it's supposed to be, I'd assumed that the ISD II was more powerful (hence the higher price tag). In some cases, the ISD I actually survives longer. Is there anyway to increase the rate of fire on the II's 8-Gun turrets? - An oldie but a goodie - The flight paths for the missiles on the new Executor SSD. Bout a third impact against its own hull.
