64-bit Vista hasn't given me any major dramas as yet. All the games I have installed haven't given me any grief. Homeworld 2 asks for updated video drivers at the opening menu but that it doesn't effect the game. I'm told that the 64-bit version is required to use 4gig of ram. So far (it's only been a week), I haven't experienced any difficulty or noticeable difference between the 32 and 64 bit versions. The only thing Vista doesn't like is old versions of virus protection software, and the added software for the G7 mouse. I'm still using my old system for the net and other basic stuff as I haven't got around to getting new virus software etc.

The 'Machine' is up and running now....my god. It's a very quiet system. I recommend liquid cooling to all and sundry. I've spent the last two evenings playing F.E.A.R, Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander and Medieval 2 and to say the very least I am blown away. Then I decided to give Warlords a whirl. Then I had to go and change my pants . With two AI, normal ship limits, and everything graphically cranked I had virtually no lag. It was so damn beautiful, I just left it playing like a screen saver for a half hour. Unbelievable. I gave the Endor scenario a whirl two and had no lag there either. I can't wait for this next version to be completed.

Finally, after 7 years, I have kissed my old P4 2 GHZ with 1 gig of ram and a 9600XT goodbye. It served me well but now it is time to upgrade....to THE MACHINE. Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 2.4 Ghz, FSB 1066Mhz, 2x4 mb ASUS Striker Extreme MBoard 4gb PC2-6400 (DDR2-800) 5-5-5-15 Dual Channel RAM 2 Dual Layer DVD Burners (don't know why but what the hell) Sound Blaster X-Fi ExtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro 7.1 Sound Card with on board RAM (since when did sound cards come with their own ram?!?!) GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit DDR3 Thermaltake Armor Case with Liquid Cooling 750 Watt PSU Logitech G7 Mouse and Keyboard 22" Monitor with 2ms delay Windows Vista (64-bit....I think vista blows) I get it next week (I'm letting the shop build it cos I'm lazy). I can't wait to put Warlords through its paces...and Half Life 2, and Battlefield 2142, and Medieval 2, and Doom 3, and FEAR....god I've missed a lot of gaming. Is she powerful enough? If you don't think so, please follow the dotted line to the room that has 'firing squad' on the door

COLLISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dojoyoda_warlords replied to Evaders99's topic in Features/ships/updates
Gee that sucks. Is there a way to reduce the size of the box in .ship files though, or is it something constrained by the model? -
Does anyone know (looks at Eville ) which parameter in .SHIP files controls the collision distances of capital ships? I've been playing around with weapons and engagement parameters for the last couple of days and noted that most capital ships 'collide' when they are still some distance from one another. Star Destroyers and Mon Cals are big perpetrators of this.
-
Since Eville is working on other stuff, I guess it will come down to how well we all do with the modelling, scripting and editing that he farms out.
-
So......how do we go about getting started?
-
Read 'I need help!' by Eville. That should give you an idea on the timetable.
-
ACK!!!!! unit descriptions, unit and weapon stats, editing and tweaking - I can do that. Like Evaders though, Maya is beyond me (that seems to be the norm) so 4.5 conversions are out of my juristiction (starts praying that someone will come along to rescue the situation). If it's alright with you EJ, I'd like to cut together some clips of the mod and start churning out ads and 'Ship spec' videos (the latter to show off individual ships), and then dump them all over U Tube and Google vid. This mod is simply too good to be left to die.

star wars starship minatures for sale/trade
dojoyoda_warlords replied to Stratus's topic in General Discussion
I think the rules a little simplified. Capital ships being able to hit each other at any point on the board sort discourages the idea of moving. Me and a couple of mates have started collecting and are going to incorporate a number of ideas from Battlefleet Gothic so that the combat has a more fluid, less controlled feel to it. -

you and I have the same 'wanted' list -
It looks as if it relates to the Empire at War expansion - I managed to find a list of what the Zann Consortium can build and it says they can purchase Venators from Pirate docks. It's a bit of leap but I guess pirates recover them from deep salvage. Sound like the kind of wasting the Empire excels in.

I'm down for it too. dojoyoda@hotmail.com

Shame that the AI doesn't seem to like building them at the moment.

The man hasn't finished modelling the new version of the victory yet. There's some development shots of it in the gallery on the website. As far as SW history goes though, the VSD I predates the Venator. The VSD I is a design from Rendili Stardrive (the same guys that designed the Dreadnaught). KDY Industries was responsible for the Acclamators and both classes of Victory. According to Wookiepedia, Venator's were designed more as a starfighter carrier than a frontline battleship. They were phased out by Victory II's, Tectors and Imperator I's through the early years of the Empire. To quote: "At the end of the Clone Wars, it had outclassed the Acclamator-class assault ship and the Victory I-class Star Destroyer to become the primary capital ship of the Republic, although shortly after the formation of the New Order, it was eclipsed by designs inspired by the Victory II-class. A second generation of Venators were finalized by the time the Empire was moving in on the last remnants of the Separatists and the Jedi Order. They lacked the colorful markings of the Republic and were used to great effect in the early Empire. Eventually, more robust vessels such as the Imperator- and Tector-classes became favored and the Venator and its variants were gradually phased out as the Empire's main destroyers. Still, they continued to serve the Empire, even during the Rebellion era, although the extent of their use appeared limited. After the end of the Clone Wars, many Venators were abandoned and left to drift in space. Several of these vessels fell into the hands of the Mandalorians, the Zann Consortium, the Hutt Cartel and various pirate groups."

Eville, I've done some balancing for the MC-80's weapon values so that they aren't completely undergunned against ISD's and larger militia vessels. I tested them against both MK I's and II's and now they....well they last a little longer than before. If you're interested, i can email you the changed .shp files.
-
Eville is currently re-modelling.....well every ship in the mod so they don't suck your processor dry. The ones in the 0.5 test have been updated (except for some of the clone wars ships). Those that aren't in there simply haven't been done yet. All the ships are still in the old 4.5 version but (IMO) Eville's new versions are so much better. I imagine all the ships will be in 0.5 when Eville finishes them. I wouldn't bother asking a finish date. He might think we don't appreciate his work.

No frigates or corvettes, and MC-80 rate of fire
dojoyoda_warlords replied to Evaders99's topic in Gameplay
Okay, the MC-80 rate of fire isn't that different. In fact, the Libery does shoot a little more. I'll upload a couple of videos on to Youtube shortly and let you judge it. Star destroyers really do kick the shit out of MC-80s. -
Hey dudes, I've been doing some testing using the 'small' unit caps, and I've noted that the AI does not build corvettes or light frigates. Anyone else noticed this? Also, I've been watching the two classes of MC-80. I reckon that the Liberty class (winged) does not put out the same rate as its Maria class (wingless) counterpart. This is a bit wierd as the Maria is supposed to ten fewer turbolasers. If you guys can have a look?........ Gonna test some more, and then maybe bitch about balancing too

Behemoth - here's the link for the fixes.big http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F6YEH11L If you post me a hockey bag full of cash, we'll call it even

Christ - I used Unf Big .BIG-file packer. I downloaded it off the net ages ago. Behemoth - I'm uploading the .big file to.......mega upload. I added the description 'Homeworld 2 Warlords - fixes.big with eclipse.' I have no idea if that helps. I just pressed a couple of buttons and it started uploading. Eville - cheers. "We will make you our new god!"

Is there any way to use a joystick to control camera movement in Homeworld 2? I only ask because that would make panning across ships and doing freehand 'orbits' a lot smoother for videos, rather than the shaky mouse turns. I remember some guy over at PDS mentioned it about a year ago but never followed it up and now I can't find the thread anymore.

instead of the Zerg....what about the Protoss? They use words like 'executor' and they talk about dying for this and that. Only problem is (from memory) most of it refers to their homeworld. Another solution might be to write some script lines and then get some volunteers to record it in a 'gutteral' fashion.
