excellent read!

Now i know some people account this as lag but simply what could be causing the horrible frame rates. Land battles are the worst imo, i mean i have tryed this on various comps and the land battles are simply poor on the lowest settings they make the game look like it was made in 1999 though they can still force a 2.8 pentium 4 with 1ghz of ram and an ati x850xl down to 10fps? Another example is when you do max out the graphics the game still has the same fps almost, okay from 10 fps you might get 8-9 now? Just to say the same system runs BFME2 at max settings and the likes of F.E.A.R/quake 4 with no problems.

On patch, multiplayer greatly improved for me seems more stable and less laggy also the lobbys seemed to have gone a bit more quieter now that you can ignore people, the test connection works well. Lands battles don't seem to lag as much as they once did. Ohh and have played online 8 times now and not had that exception error once. just a question i see it has cpu and fps? How is the fps scored is it based on the cpu? as someone could have a fast processor and an intel graphics chip or a decent processor and an ati 1800xt graphics card.

LucasArts Interview release 03/17/206
Spiralarchitech replied to Siddus's topic in EAW General Discussion
Lucasarts is a buisness, and run like one. I can't see them spending money on something that they feel they won't see a return on. Can't really blame them but at the end of the day if we wanted a great online service for all our starwars games someone is gonna have to put some money on the table somewhere along the line. -

Empire at War Community Update

Great news, i noticed this last night when i was playing mp. Also noticed a little amendment LEC made to it on their forums can you guess what it is. Oh and its really childish too. -
Re: Balance? We dont need no stinkin balance!
Spiralarchitech replied to z3r0x's topic in EAW General Discussion
The balance in this game is only there with the hero's. I have played a few no hero's Mp games and rebels are so overpowered, plex soldiers and infiltrators are all you need to own the empire, and if your still having trouble throw in a few speeders. Without mara jade and vader the empire has no chance, and if you do manage to get to late game their T4-B's wil beat empire up bad with out old palpatine on your side. -
Obi wans only purose in this game is to kill the emperor, if you see vader run away unless you've got backup.

Not a flame merely expressing my opinion on how i feel that forum is run and the sort of people who post on it. I think i have listed 4 constructive reasons why i think the forum is poor.

LucasArts game forums are for 10 year olds and trolls, the mods there do not do there job in my opinion. Discussions can be about anything other than the game (EAW) and they won't do anything. On the first page there is 2 topics about civ3 and galactic civ2 what have these to do with EAW? And there is dozens of threads basically slagging of EAW no reason just threads that go 'EAW is crap' ,they even have threads were people have stated they are using a pirated copy and the thread has not been locked.

I played the first game 'soldiers' its a good game, probaly on budget now, i would buy that before the new one as it'll let you see what its like. As its not a traditional rts type game but it is good just maybe not for everyone.
-
I have to say i like pre built bases it saves me time having to buil one on my own and even if i could the AI would have no chance as it would probaly be impenetrable. But i agree slightly bigger maps would be welcome as 1vs1 maps are cool but 2vs2 or more it starts to get a bit crowded. I would like to see an improvement with infantry combat, at the moment its fairly static i would like the ability to make soldiers go prone for extra defence and for a second ability seek cover in wooded terrain or long grass making them harder to see, p.s. need a scatter key (as in C&C) to make infantry scatter in different directions. Also explosions in space are excellent i think land vehicles could use a extra oomph in the explosion department.

Spiralarchitech replied to Code_Monkey's topic in EAW General Discussion
Thx on the update in fact its rare these days, so its greatly appreciated. Also its great that EAW is a success for petroglyph and i hope it continues. P.S. I hope you get pay rises for all your hard work and success, if not 'fight the power' -
Re: How is your ground-based game performance?
Spiralarchitech replied to jpinard's topic in EAW General Discussion
I find turning the shader down helps the land battles, but i here ya the land battles can lag. When a sandstorm/snowstorm/rain kicks in it can turn into lag central though the effects are nice, a wee option to turn them off would have been good. -

Re: What do you think of the balance: MULTIPLAYER?
Spiralarchitech replied to Jameswgm's topic in EAW General Discussion
I agree, okay we can't really improve on the manouverability but i seriously think the damage needs increased. This is the empire's most powerful land vehicle it should decimate opposing units and i mean decimate. As it is the AT-AT is a novelty you would be better to spend your money on 2 squads (4+4= AT-ST's that can destroy 3 T-4B's (a single AT-AT will get owned by 3 T-4B's) So what if it can deploy storm troopers has anyone noticed than other than capturing imperial storm troopers are pretty much useless and are crap compared with the rebellion soldier. Only Veers AT-AT is really worth using and at 4000 its a very expensive toy, okay his special is good it can take out any unit/building in the game, but its a bit expensive i mean 4000 ??? with 4000 i could spend that on any number of units that could do veers job quicker and with less hassle. -
Just played what i thought was a 1 vs 1 quick match but when the game was over it showed 3 players names. Is this a bug was i playing vs 2 people or was 1 watching? Not:not a custom game but quick match.

Spiralarchitech replied to jpinard's topic in EAW General Discussion
I feel that the land battle is not fully optimisied and there maybe a memory leak, hopefully they are testing out possible soloutions and will be ready when the next patch comes out. Also just to say i have fiddled with all graphic options in game and for my video card (ati x800xl) and there is very little difference in the speed/fps of the game, also the in game speed slider i find the differnce from slowest to fastest barely noticable. -
I gave it 4. I think this is a fun action based rts, it might not be a complicated as rome-TW but to me this is a plus i don't want to be a stat whore or have to play 60 hours before i can be competent at the game. I like the diversity of having land and space battles combined with rebels or imperials it adds a good variety in the gameplay for me, i also like the campaigns although a tad short the conquest games are good fun in that when taking a planet you never know what you might run into initially, or when you come under attack what will be landing to take on the small force of 3 squads of stormtroopers you have for the defense of the planet. I much prefer this to the majority of other rts games which start of with me on one side and the AI on the other side of the map and its build a base time and maybe i might try out my new 1337 rush tactic ??? Graphics are good imo the textures maybe could be worked on but the heat/bloom effects look nice and the lasers/rockets explosions are v-nice, though i have not experienced the bugs other players have i do find land battles a bit slow and find it a game engine problem rather than a graphic one.

Re: What do you think of the balance: MULTIPLAYER?
Spiralarchitech replied to Jameswgm's topic in EAW General Discussion
At the last dev chat i asked what they based the space combat on, they replyed they based it on naval combat ie. battleships/destroyers so on (i tend to think its a cross between early 20th century naval combat with battleships and so on mixed with modern missle technology) Frigates do not have horrible accuracy their weapons are just weak vs capital ships, its like if the royal navy in ww2 had sent 100 destroyers (instead of the hood/prince of wales) to hunt the bismark with its huge guns it would have hammered every single one before they even got in range and even if they did get in range their guns would have took ages to do any significant damage to it. -
Re: EAW: Did It Live Up To Your Expectations?
Spiralarchitech replied to Star Wars Man's topic in EAW General Discussion
Depends on what you are looking for. For example someone mentioned AOE:3 as having better graphics, better textures yes but better effects ie, explosions, i would say no. -
