Okay, I didn't even know that forum existed, I usually just check out the ones for EAW.

What is P-02?
-
You lucky S.O.B.! If I tried that with my boss, he'd say "Sure! Why don't you atke the rest of the year off as well! We'll start looking for your replacement tomorrow." Needless to say I didn't ask, but I'm going to try to put in a good 4-5 hours playtime when I get the game.
-
That's good to hear, this is one thing I couldn't be happier to be more wrong about.
-
I just looked it up on Amazon, and both versions of the game were PC CD-Rom. Maybe this is an older pic of the game box and they have changed it for the Collector's Edition, but so far it's looking to not be the case. Especially since if you look at the Collector's Edition for BFME 2, it clearly states DVD-Rom.
-
I noticed that too the other day when I looked at EBGames, I think when the games comes out they will update the onfo to reflect that it's on DVD and Cd-Rom. A game of this magnitude would have to be on more than one CD, just look at BFME it took four. I can't see LucasArts not issuing the game on DVD as well.

picky, picky, picky...

All great examples of what I was referring to, thanks guys.

You still don't understand what I am talking about. Yes you have ships and troops to defend your bases and attack the enemy's bases. I am talking about secret missions that you can send heroes and/or special forces on to take out specific enemy targets. Such as having a squad of commandoes who will infiltrate an enemy base to take out their shield generator; to make the job of conquering the base easier for your forces. Having a special covert squad that can swing the tide of the battle in your favor by destroying a critical structure that weakens the enemy base. Another would be to have a squad of commandoes infiltrate an enemy shipyard to take out their newly built Battle Cruiser. Let's say you're the Rebels and you are watching your brand new MC-90 come out of the Mon Calamari Shipyards, then suddenly it explodes due to sabotage by an enemy commando unit. All those resources and time spent building it are gone. That would be a huge blow to your war effort. What I am talking about is in addition to regular warfare. It's clandestine warfare to weaken the enemy from within, while you attack from without.
-
Destroying ships, enemy structures, assassinations, things like that. For instance in ground combat, you send in a covert team or a hero to take out a shield generator or a heavy weapons factory. In space, taking out the enemy's brand new top line ship as it leaves the shipyard. That's what I am referring to. We know espionage is featured in the game since the Rebels have to steal the plans for the Death Star and the prototypes of the X-Wing. To me it would only make sense to have sabotage as well.
-
What I'm talking about Dork is watching your brand new ISD pulling out of the shipyard and two seconds later it explodes. Missions you can send heroes or covert teams on to destroy specific enemy targets. It would be great if they have sabotage, but we can only hope.

Awhile back we talked about sabotaging ships while they are being built, and I was wondering if anyone knew if this was going to be ingame or not?

What will immerse you most into the SW universe?
Rogue NineCH replied to Nevets's topic in EAW General Discussion
I can't point to any one thing that will immerse me into this game, it will be everything. I have been waiting so long for a Star Wars RTS, that it will be hard to disappoint me. Given the fact that Petroglyph has a few C&C veterans working on this game, I seriously doubt they will muck it up. -
I Will Never Look at EPIII the Same Way Again
Rogue NineCH replied to Nevets's topic in General Star Wars
ROTFLMAO!!! Whoever put that together was brilliant! -
Ok I finally checked out your site. Very interesting and quite a bold undertaking as well. I am curious to see how you fit those factions into the game. That would be cool to go up against the Vong ships and see if they really are as tough as the NJO books made them out to be.
-
I agree with you there, Lucas could have done a much better job. I think what would be great for an expansion is introducing the Yuzzhan Vong (I forget how they're spelled). Since bringing the timeline from ANH to ROTJ doesn't do enough in terms of units, then how about bringing in the Vong? There is a wealth of new units and heroes that can be brought into the game, and it would certainly have plenty of intrest from the fans.

Would you rather have no more new Star Wars products at all? That's the only way the "madness" would end. What's so bad about Lucas trying to make more money? There is obviously still a market for Star Wars products so why is LucasArts providing those products "madness"? No one forces us to buy Star Wars games, toys, movies etc. We all choose to and when we do we risk the chance that the product will disappoint and we will consider our money wasted. That's the way it is, period. Okay so Lucas is milking a cash cow he introduced in 1977, so what! Wouldn't you? Say you came up with a Science Fiction franchise that gathers new fans every year and almost thirty years later is still going strong? You would be an idiot not to recognize the potential money you can make from it. I seriously doubt that anyone would not take advantage of such a lucrative opportunity as Star Wars. We'll never know obviously, since Lucas thought it up, but I think he is only doing what any businessman with a succesful franchise would do. To attack him for that is ridiculous since we would most likely do that exact same thing in his shoes.

Wasn't refering to the Empire itself from the movie needed more aliens, I was refering to that the game could use some, just so we wouldn't have to look at humans all days as our heros (like how Rebellion created the spy mon cal. I think they created her.) That makes sense too. Sometimes I overthink things too much for my own good. Actually I was referring more to the Empire from the EU, Lucas pretty threw continuity out the window with the prequels. Not that I'm complaining, most of the people who watched the prequels probably wouldn't understand much if he kept continuity with the EU.
-
You're right the Imperials didn't hate alien races, but they looked down on them obviously. They were used as pawns by Palpatine, and for tasks deemed too lowly for Imperial citizens I'm sure. We all know that Thrawn was sent by the Emperor to the UR to expand the Empire, although it was believed that he was exiled. I was merely responding to Nevet's statement that the Imperials needed more alien heroes for diversity, and why aliens were used sparingly in the Imperial Hierarchy, from which most of the heroes will be used for EAW.
-
Plus he is an alien, which is lacking on the imperial side so it is always nice to have some diversity. If you remember the Imperials looked down on Alien races, and the reason Thrawn is a Grand Admiral is that he was a brilliant strategist, plus they shipped him off to the Unknown Regions. The Imperial sentiment was that aliens were inferior and had no business in the Imperial hierarchy.

That's what I do when I retreat, but it's still would be a useful feature. Hit the retreat button and your army executes a fighting withdrawal. Granted I am no RTS wizard, but planning ahead comes natural to me, but every once in a while, my opponent throws me a curve ball.
-
While I'm no RTS expert, I have played my share of RTS games and one thing that has always bugged me. When the battle isn't going well and you decide it's best to retreat and regroup, your men always stop firing and turn their backs on the enemy to run. It would be great if a "Strategic Retreat" button was added so that when a retreat was called, your army or at least a portion of it would simply "Walk backwards" while still exchanging fire with the enemy. To me this is more realistic and would enhance the depth of the game. Now I am not sure how this would work in space, but since most vessels can fire in all directions, this wouldn't apply so much as to ground forces. What do you guys think?

and maintain balance between the sides. While it would be cool to have tons of units for both sides, there comes a point where they are redundant. Having more than two units for a specific combat function is not practical. For instance, it makes no sense to have fifteen different kinds of bombers. You could go on and on for every type of unit in EAW, and then what about balance? You can't have one side that completely overmatches the other, the game would suck. Also you have to take into account game performance. More units means more demands on the PC, and Game developers want their game to appeal to the widest audience possible. You can't have the minimum specs start at 3 GHZ, because not everyone has that fast of a computer right now. Now as for the units you mentioned, I would like to see most of those in EAW. However I seriously doubt we have seen all the units that are playable, so we have nothing to worry about.

What i am curious about....
Rogue NineCH replied to General Ackbar's topic in EAW General Discussion
You think all battles throughout history had a point to them? Sometimes there wasn't one. However to answer your question the point would be that your fleet survives to fight another day when something bigger is at stake. -
It's in two of the six SW movies for pete's sake! Next to the Death Star, the Super Star Destroyer is the pinnacle of Imperial might. To not have it would be a huge mistake, and hurt EAW as a true Star Wars game. It makes no sense not to have the SSD. Especially if Home One is going to be in the game, then the Executor needs to be as well. I'm sure if the only SSD in the game is the hero unit Executor, then someone will mod it so it's buildable almost as soon as the game's out. That's just my thoughts on the SSD.
