Thank you Jan, welcome to the boards

I do recall that on some of the screenshots, the shadows are very elongated. It wouldn't be very hard to program a different point of light and vary the brightness/hue to make different times of day. Making night would require a lot more work however.

Here is a short little article on the dispersion of energy weapons Here The US military has concluded that energy dispersion within the atmosphere is negligible. They have been using energy weapons to shoot down tactical missiles and artillery shells (Each traveling well over 5000mph). There is little contestation that the system can be upgraded to take out nuclear warheads. I don't know the exact math, but I do know that nuclear weapons must be taken out while still in space and while moving at around 15000mph. Hitting a nuclear missile traveling through space at 15000mph with an energy weapon is far less difficult than hitting a ground target from geosynchronous orbit. More info More info 2

My impression of the few pre-release game chats that I have sat in on: "First off, I just want to say thanks you so so so so much for doing this chat. My name is SuperPetroFan985, I'm your biggest fan!!!!!!!! " "Is the game going to be any fun?" "Can I mod the game so that Obiwan can cut of storm troopers heads?" "In the movies, the grass on naboo is a little darker green than in your games. Have you guys ever watched the movies?" "Please go play RTW, because I think there is a lot you could learn about RTS genre before you work anymore on this game. Have you ever played RTW? Its really good, I'm serious." "If you are to include Greedo as an Imperial Hero, can you make sure that Han fires the first shot should they confront eachother rather than having Greedo fire and miss? Thanks" And my favorite: "I need know when Death Store falls in battle and pops nar the planet and there are like tini ships and big ship and there are rocks form the planet because that fire ring went around back and out and the are turning around sliding fast towards outerspace sparkles all over and the base sheld of the smaler shiips had vanished and one of the peaces hits near one of the big ships does the one die?"

Linking to your public webpage is sharing. Downloading it and giving it to somebody else would be stealing One of my hero skills is super sharing, it improves the health and morale of all my troops within my command radious.

Mountain sized... that leaves a lot for debate. But if you can bombard a creature the size of a mountain, then you can bombard a creature the size of an ant. It merely becomes a matter of technology. How accurate are the targeting systems on star wars ships? They can jump through hyperspace, are over a mile long, can send messages via hyperspace, and in the case of the death star, destroy an entire planet. But they dont' have the sensor strength or accuracy to target a smaller ground unit? Or at least a building?

With what success?

Well let me clarify a bit. Aiming a laser at the ground from space isn't very technologically impressive, even by today’s standards. Being able to hit a target would be pretty easy. Now, this is star wars not real life. In star wars, I don’t recall any examples of a spaceship targeting a ground unit or structure. But I have only read about half of the EU. Though I do recall an example of when Thrawn was able to get a planet to lower its shields and forfeit to save time. There was (If I recall) some unwritten implication that the fleet could do very heavy damage to the planet. But how precise that damage would be was unclear. Another point, which I have no seen much about in star wars is counter-measures. As targeting systems improved, so would jamming systems. Although the technology for aiming a laser at a large capital ship is rudimentary, the technology to deceive such a targeting system could be devised. Though missing a cruiser passing by you even at a high speed seems highly unfeasible under any circumstance. But hey, this is science fiction. If consensus says that in star wars, they can’t target ground troops, then I’m all for it being like that in a star wars game.

the proper use of shields/powercore would solve this problem. Loyalty penelties for hitting buildings and such.
-
Vehicle Thief is a hero skill. So you can at least steal ground units I would surmize.
-
Well we are talking about sophisticated targeting systems. Current US targeting technology allows the US to drop metal rods from space, calculating for atmospheric conditions and the earths rotation and have them land within a 5 meter area. I doubt hitting a target from a spaceship with a laser (which goes from the ship to the surface in a fraction of a second and is unaffected my most atmospheric conditions) would be much of a problem.

Ah, that would be a good guess. Must have missed that discussion

ooops. sorry bout that. hold on.. FIXED

Walking infront of vader... *EDITED* http://www.eaw-fr.com/modules/view_screen.php?n=3357 Though after looking at it again, the unit size is exactly that of the stormtroopers whereas most the heros seem larger. Hmmm.

Vader, please don't say that. Next thing you know we will have a petro designer ussing your quote and rebutting "Its the same reason that the powercore for the shields array has to go outside of the shields" Although in many of the technical drawings such as this one from the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels here list the globes as shields, most indepth research has concluded they are sensor arrays. It was not the distruction of the globe that brought down the shields, but rather a barage by admiral ackbar at a consentrated point which allowed the fighter in episode 6 to destroy the sensors. (Which is a great first target after loss of shields because it is easy to take out, even for a lone fighter, and has devestating consequences). The Star Wars Technical commentaries is the best source of info on the matter. Please read here

I'd like to chime in and say that the EU got out of hand with rediculously predictable plots. "Everything is dandy. Wait, something feels wrong. Oh no, there is still an evil spirt/clone alive. Oh no, there is still a super weapon that was hidden all these years. Oh no, we are all about to die. Wait, yay, we got lucky! Everything is dandy!" I must say though, the lowest point in the EU was when Luke was being hunted by the one armed wampa and his friends. Who approved that script? Edit: I'm speaking of the pre-New Order series.

I tried installing it a few months back with no luck. Also, does the mod have the new ship models or do you have to install those on their own?

Couldn't agree with you more. Excerpt from my orginal post here

Sparky, thanks very much for putting in the work for us

Dont suppose we could reorganize the units into imps/rebs? Would be much appreciated.

Few comments. 1) With the attention to detail they are placing on each planet surface, I think 40 planets is asking a lot. Each planet has its own terrian, trees and NPC life. Each of that takes a long time to put together. Let the modders add another 100 planets once the game is out. 2) Unit scaling has been vastly improved. Thank you Petro for listening to your fans, that goes a long way. 3) The Corellian surface brings up something that I hadn't put too much thought into... the maps are being designed as defender friendly. If the invading force must march its troops down a narrow bridge like that to get to the base, they will be at a large disadvantage (Which is how it should be in my opinion. Should need a 3:1 ratio when invading). 4) It occured to me how imprortant it is for them to have damaged units stay damaged. They stated that damaged units will be fully repaired after each battle. I think that this is bad for a persistent universe. I think this is more important than unit experience, especially since they have stressed the tactical implications of retreating. It would be horrible if you almost loose your ISD, jump out, regroup then jump right back in and take no penelty. Also, if unit debris from destroyed ships stays around (as they said in this video) then ship damage should as well, imho. 5) Shockwave from planet clearly does not go through the DS, but rather passes just under it. It does go through the other ships however. 6) Nothing he says suggests that the DS can target ships. He is simply talking about taking out just the spacestation etc from a strategic point of view. 7) He says once you have a planet you gain the resources and "strategic' advantages. The later clearly includes construction levels and research points and unit types from watching the video. Most important information from the video: Research. He says that they are quickly increasing "Resources and Research" and "Leveling up". Meaning each level has new units. As he is talking about leveling up and new ground building appears (Looks like a research facility). I wonder if this got added as soon as they "leveled up" or if it became available to build. (You can see that he levels up several times. I think he starts at level 2 and ends at level 5. Look at the info window that keeps appearing on the left hand side of the screen) Also, right before he builds the deathstar, he levels up and instantly there are two more units available in the spaceship window. I think this suggests there there is a simple level based research system rather than a research tree in which a player can choose what type of unit to research. I.E. Once you get to level 10, suddenly b-wings become available. As I can tell, at first the empire has (From left to right) - Tartan Patrol, Missle Cruiser, Victory SD, Acclamator SD, PROBE DRIOD, Unknown, Tie Scout. NOTE: The probe driod has its first sighting. Must be very usefully for finding enemy units on the space maps. the unit after the spy driod is an engima to me. Since we must take into account that all the other units are from a port/top angle view, so is this one. Meaning it is a very tall and skinny unit, very similar to the ground unit troop icons. Is this a space marine? It is definetly located next to the spy driod and likely a specilized unit which are grouped between cruisers and fighters. Upon Leveling up, he now has access to ISD's and Interdictror Cruisers. The first appearing at the begining of the unit list, the latter appearing after the Acclamator SD. Oddly, he then stars building DS, which there is still no unit icon for. We can now tell that the pointer icon represents ships and the lined symbole represents ground units. On the right hand side there is a stat bar for each. You can see the ships on corrusaunt is 3 of 5 and the ground units are 3 of maybe 9. Is this a unit cap or a contruction rate? 9) Im concerned by the fact that the game freezes for less than a half second, and he quickly assumes the game has crashed, as if this is an ongoing problem.

Yup, we need somebody who speaks German and has site access.

Press Release: 08/17/05 We here at Nintendo have always tried to position the Nintendo console as family entertainment. We have a long history of developing games which are both appropriate and enjoyable for all ages and genders. Now, we present to you the Nintento Revolution. We are taking our family business model to the next level. Many studies have shown that the tv remote has been one of the most voltile and contested devices to enter into the modern household. Studies have shown that nearly 20% of all domestic desputes begin with the symbolic toil of remote control, through which the tv remote represents much more than just what is on tv but rather the control of the whole family structure. Nintendo is proud to say we have found a way to end this ongoing thorn in the modern household. No longer will husband and wife have to fight over the remote control, now they can fight with it! Ninento aims to bring couples and their children closer by giving everybody a remote control looking thing to hold and claim as their equal portion of the power. (Of course the Parental Models will have a child-lock that can deactivate the childrens remotes at bedtime and at the two minute warning of Madden 06). We are making a difference. Nintendo: Bringing you the happy home revolution.

i think the original stormtroopers were clones, and then they slowly replaced them with non-clones. One thing to note: If you are making an amry of humans in an entire univser, you'd expect there to be a lot of variation in height and width. However, when luke opens leias door in EP4 she says "aren't you a bit short for a storm trooper?". Now, some might say that she was just making an insult...but it is possible the storm troopers were all the same height to hide that so many of them were still clones. But then you have to factor in the EU in which luke could easily sense a clone from a human. I think George lucas should have never let george lucas write any more after EP4.
