Rumors of the SSDs involvemnt have been false.
Makwu replied to Vader89's topic in EAW General Discussion
The whole point of the SSD is that it is too expensive and not practical. It’s like owning a 60ft yacht. Wouldn't a 40tf have done? It’s a display of power and threat rather than practical. And THAT is what the empire is all about. Control through fear. Thus, that is what star wars is half about. But I must say that I fear that might be the last time we here from whatever poor bloke posted that info, he will likely disappear in the night and turn up down river several days later. And the LEC moderators, likely to loose their pinky fingers. Imagine trying to type a capital mid sentense? Oh well. Can we unlock the topic in which we were discussing the SSD specifications please? The need for the discussion seems to have returned. Thank you here -
this discussion found its way onto the other thread: here These are both tatooine screen shots: Backpacks/Long Rifles/White Shoulder Pad http://www.eaw-fr.com/modules/view_screen.php?n=3358 http://www.eaw-fr.com/modules/view_screen.php?n=2351 No Backpack/Short Rifle/Red Pad http://www.eaw-fr.com/modules/view_screen.php?n=1714 Desert Planet (Can't tell if its tatooine): No Backpack/Short Rifle/Red Pad AND No Backpack/Short Rifle/Black Pad http://www.eaw-fr.com/modules/view_screen.php?n=1711 I would say that the long rifles and short rifles are two different units, rather than different/models skins for different terrain. However, I can't tell if the should/backpack colors are based on unit upgrade levels or if they are unit coloring signifying different player colors? NOTE: I would like to thank eaw-fr.com for the use their gallery

Well, did command and conquer generals have it? That would be a good indicator. I need to buy my new monitor by the 13th (4 more days). Sigh

Does anybody know if eaw will support widescreen resolutions? About to buy a new monitor...

Well im not even sure if bounty hunters have been confirmed (Other than Slave-II). I was speculating (based ont the fact that slave-II was flying around and I can't imagine it belonging to a faction) that bounty hunters come into the gameplay and activily try to capture heros. Though, we don't really need to ask "Are there bounty hunters" then "Do they come into the gameplay to capture heros?" since the second one implies the first one. I'm very interested in this now that I have put some thought into it and would definetly like to get some answers in the chat.

Eh, I must have been really tired when i was watchng those videos. Can't find them now, so im guessing I was looking at rebel soldiers and thought they were fighting other reb grounds units or something. There are some navy soldiers "other than stormies" in the intro clip from the trailer, but doesn't mean anything.
-
That would be very interesting. Perhaps that is how some heros are recruited?
-
hope there isn't an auto retreat for heros. Once they get to 25% health their ship automatically comes and picks them up.

Looking through some of the videos, there are definetly imperial army troopers (or maybe navy troopers - I can't tell the difference). There are also two different types of storm troopers (Im sure this has been pointed out long ago). One has a long rifle, the other a short rifle with an arm patch.
-
I've looked through all the images and video and still can't find any population indicator, which casts a lot of doubt on my hypothosis. However, the icon next to credits (which I assume represents credits) seems redundant if there is nothing but credits. Perhaps clicking on this icon cycles through other data?
-
I agree. We will soon see how well its implemented. I really like they idea of "hero units" such as home one and rogue squadron. But having to micromanage hero ground units and their multiple special abilities seems like it could play out to be a bit much. We'll know soon enough. It could be fixed by making them fairly easy to kill, which I hope is the case.

I think fairly. Jango put up a good fight with Obiwan. If obiwan were to be attacked by two Bh's at once, that would be an interesting fight. Needless to say though, having to deal with one BH at a time would at least take the hero out of the game and distract the player, thus serving its gameplay purpose.

Naja, I suspect (Based on reading a few of the planet attributes) that each planet has a base population. Then there can be modifiers based on faction. Say Rebs get a 10% population bonus. Then catinas and such will give pop bonuses also, say 5%. I suspect (Though I dodn't have a screen shot to confirm this yet) that there are only two resources in EAW. Credits and Population. Planets have base stats. You can build mines to increase credits or build catinas to incrase population. The question that raises: Does population increase planet credit production? (Ie. simple tax). Or can we increase taxes if we choose? Or do the two have no consequence on one another? NOTE: I am speaking of the campaign mode. Skirmish will definetly working differently to some degree.

Blah Edit: Nevermind. Would take too much linking and explaining. Enjoy Was referring to this: http://swempireatwar.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=832&start=25 Which was folowed by this: http://swempireatwar.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=695&start=50

I think both sides will get at least one elite unit ground unit and one special ops unit. Elite Unit: My gut feeling says no darktroppers. Petro wants to do something new. The empire will likely get something like the Coruscant Gaurd or the Emperor's Royal Gaurd. I expect to see crimson running accross the battlefield. Rebs: I have no idea Special Forces: Imperials will get some sort of small commando squad while the rebels get a guerilla squad. Special abilities will something along the lines of “hidingâ€

It just occured to me that you will most likely be able to employ bounty hunters to try and find enemy heros. We have already seen Slave-II. I suspect that once you pay a bounty hunter, they keep showing up at your battles trying to catch the hero. If you are on the ground, all of the sudden a ship lands and you have to start fighting off a bounty hunter who is relentlessly targetting your hero unit.
-
I think the empire will get a cheap and quick cruiser, likely not the carrack. Something similar in capacity to the strike cruiser from rebellion but they will make a new ship for it. They will definetly get the Lancer or the Defender, but not both. Rebellion will get a dreadnaught or an assualt frigate of some sort, plus an MC90 or Aldaraan War Frigate and they will get a carrier.

yeah, that has been known for awhile

I have no idea why everybody is so worried about cepts and b-wings. They WILL be in the game. Any reasonable logic points to that. The inclussion of some EU units, the need for a larger tech tree than they have shown us so far, the fact that those are obvious fan favorites.... the list goes on. B-Wings AND Cepts with both be in the game. I can gurantee it. Stop worrying. Defenders/K-wings/E-wings is another story.
-
They have noted that there will be some EU units. A SSD could easily be balanced out with b-wings, k-wings and E-wings without having to give the rebs a ship they don't really have.

They never build it properly to scale. They don't even know what the proper scale is to begin with. In rebellion it was about twice as big as an ISD. I suspect Petro will make it about 3-4 times the size (Or about 1/3 of what it should be) Needless to say, the SSD will definitely not be as big or as powerful as it is on all the statistical records. The RPG accounts say that the SSD has 250 turbolasers, heavy turbo lasers, ion cannons and missile tube. These numbers are based off of the miscalculation of the ships length, meaning the actual numbers should be about 3-4 times that many. But we’ll use Starwars.com’s as the official numbers. They have the SSD length at 19k meters. Weapons: 350 Heavy, 350 Regular, 250 Ion, 250 Missile Tubes. They have the Mon Cal 80 listed at 1.2k meters. The weapons as generally listed at: 0 Heavy, 48 Regular, 20 Ion. The MC80 has 3 times the shield generators, though each is weaker than an ISDs. I’ll have to go back to the RPG for the shields: SSD= 96000, MC80 3840(x3=11520) And the damage of Heavy vs Regular TB at 10/7. (Though I suspect the Heavy is more than 45% more powerful than a regular) SSD Shields: Approx 8 times a MC80 (Being generous with the backups) SSD Weapons: Approx 22 times that of a MC80 On paper I would say one SSD could take on at least 10 MC80s, more likely about 14-15. A far cry from rebellion, in which I think 3 MC80s would match a SSD. (Though I haven’t played in awhile, maybe it was stronger than that) Sorry for the long post...

I had a dream last night (And I am being 100% serious) about a Bulwark cruiser kicking my ass. I woke up laughing. It took me two squadrons of ties and one of tie bombers and a lancer frig just to take out their one squadron of X-wings. Then I was able to take out thier only escort ship they had suprisingly easily, which didn't look like any ship i have seen before it was similar to a nebulon B only minus the vertical protrusion below the forward section. But the Bulwark took out my few remaining fighters, my lancer and two ISD's without a scratch. It was a nightmare.
