What he is asking is this: Can Legacy of War be used to "only" add the units he wants up until ROTJ. Or does he "have" to use all the units Legacy of War will add. The answer is, you have to use all the units. There might be somebody else who makes a "EAW Done Right - Reality Mod" which will simply add all the units up until ROTJ. That is not what Legacy of war is about. They have a much more expansive goal and they are doing a great job of it. Legacy of War is not an EAW fix, its a addon with a new compelling story line, many new EU units, and likely some other tweaks. It will not be EAW anymore. It will be EAW - Legacy of War.

Bad news about the game....but hey! do not be dissapointed!!
Makwu replied to Eduardo's topic in EAW General Discussion
Yes, designed after the SSD and put into circulation after the SSD. And I'm only making a point, no SSD isn't the end of the world in my book. But let me say this: Delphi definetly indicated that they are working with the information provided to them by lucas arts. "Star Wars Lore." So either there is a serious flaw within Lucas Arts and their ability to keep track of their own universe, or else a communication flaw between LEC and Petro. Much of this "Up to ANH" makes no sense at all. Doesn't make sense based on the units they have included in the game so far, doesn't make sense from a gameplay standpoint (In my opinion) and doesn't make sense from a future expansion standpoint. Then we have some other pre-existing issues. Little things like the ISDI being an ISDII model. (Which all by itself wouldn't be a big deal at all). Then I'm sure you all recall the infamous quotes "here is a rancor, an indigenous unit of Tatooine" and "in true star wars fasion, the power generator is outside the shield" So the question is: Where is all this misinformation coming from? As a developer reading this, id likely be thinking "These are minor complaints from fanatics who know too much". You may be right in that "most" people who pick up the game won't notice or care. But I disagree with that type of thinking. You dont' have to make a game based on an existing universe. You can always make a new game in a universe that you invent. And nobody can say "That isn't right". But if you are going to make a game on something such as Star Wars, get it right. I'm not blaming Petro, I think its equally LEC's fault. It really isn't that hard to get all this stuff right. There are at least 5-6 members on this forum alone who, had they been consulted on the making of the game, could have done a better job of getting the details right. There is little excuse in my opinion. It will still be a great game, everybody knows that. But it could have been a great game and accurate to the universe it was depicting. But apperently it won't be. Shame on somebody or everybody. -

The post that has the "title" SSD confirmed actually goes on to find out it doesn't. A dev posted at the end of page one saying that the timeline will only go through ANH. No SSD's, b-wings, etc. http://swempireatwar.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=845&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 Last post on that page -

Tie defender definetly wont make it in. As the SSD was in developement during ANH, the defender was in developement during ROTJ. But if the SSD didn't make it, the defender wouldn't even make it if they were to take the timeline all the way up to ROTJ. -

I can't find the picture of the Accusor. Does anybody remeber noticing and differences to the model itself? Or was it exactly the same as the other ISDs, just slightly enlarged? -
Yeah, maybe the jedi fighter too for some heros? I suspect Petro is going to have to make up a few fighters for this timeframe.

Victory conditions for EaW, considering the ANH timeline?
Makwu replied to Naja's topic in EAW General Discussion
We don't really know. We do know that you win if you control all the planets. But we don't know if there are other terms for victory as well. Ie kill Vader and Palpy if you are the rebs. -
Yeah, having the game only go to ANH makes this more curious. Should an expansion start at end of ANH and go to ROTJ it would only have 6-7 more units to add to the game (Plus anymore Petro wants to invent) but would have to remove more units than that which were no longer used. So they would be releasing an implosion, not an expansion. However, if you were to start with the Thrawn era (Which is what i think a lot of people expected) then you would have to have all the units that you would have "researched" and "built" between ANH and ROTJ available at the start. It would be strange starting an expansion pack, all the sudden having access to some pretty important ships like the bwing and SSD that weren't available in your initial build. And starting at ANH and going "through" ROTJ into the thrawn era would of course make even more problems. I see the expansion pack situation as being rather problematic at this point timeline wise.

Why not start the mod off by first filling in upto ROTJ. Have that as your first goal, get that much released and perfected, then work on the rest. That is my humble opinion

The interdictor. However, right now the Empire has only only 3 fighters and we can easily surmize that that will not be enough. And what good will fighters prior to the wonderfully dominating tie scout be againt A-wings and X-wings? The empire from a gameplay standpoint needs interceptors, I suspect they are already in. There are clearly more imperial fighters to be shown.

Agreed.

Guys, we are not arguing about what we like in games (I think we agree there) we are arguing about different definitions of "balance". We all like balance in that both sides have an equal chance of winning the game upon start and that neither side has a unit combination that is completely unstoppable. None of us want a quid pro quo scheme in which every unit on one side has a counterpart on the other side. -
maybe let the two people matched up (assuming its 1vs1) arrange their own time each round? Have a final date that the two have to have the match played by.

Yeah, that has been pointed out. Same for a few other's -
It occurred to me last night that there really weren’t too many ships introduced in between ANH and ROTJ so we aren’t missing out on a whole lot of content. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is it: Imperials: VSDII ISDII SSD Interdictors* Interceptors Lancer Frigate Rebels: A-Wing* B-Wing MC80b *These made it in game That is only 7 less ships (unless I am mistaken) which isn't much at all. I'm sure any reasonably good design/mod team could make those ships in a few weeks at most. What was the Accursor btw? Some people have it at Mark1, the X-wing games had it Mark2 and the tech commentaries has it as a Mark3. Anybody know?

I've always seen Home One listed at 3.8k or 3.1k. ISDII as 1.6k. MC80s at 1.2k. But i suppose that could be wrong. Where is your data coming from fosh? -

Looks like they made Home One the same size as the other Cals rather than the normal 3x. I'm fine with that, will keep the ISDs from looking small : ) -
Nope. Just raises questions

I haven't made a model since UT 1. I tried helping the BotS team out, but I worked a bit too slow for their needs My friend is a good modeler however (Went to school for it). He even has some star wars stuff. If I recall, he has a great SSD model he made a few years ago, maybe it would be of some use? -
I suspect they will try to stay away from the "hidden weapon stash" formula of the EU. I can't see that working well for a RTS
-
Ok, since we now know when the timeline ends. We might as well start looking in the opposite direction for new units. What ships do we expect do see? What happened to all those driod ships? The Driod battleship was 3000k wide. That's no SSD but its still a huge ship on the battlefield and it carries over 60! squadrons. Will any of the other droid army ships make it in? The have a lot of nice destroyers that i suspect LEC would rather make an appearance than the old dreadnaughts. Venator? What early hero ships might there be? I am not that familiar with the technology timeline at the point in the history.

Whoa, let me clarify by saying that is XML in its "simplest form". But it remains to be seen how they handle many things like hardpoints and moving turrets. The ISD’s have 8 turrets on the top, if you change that model at all, you have to change the location of the turrets and hardpoints. That code will be a lot more tricky. I suspect the basic unit statistics will be as simple as possible (Similar to what I just showed), but the unit model data will be a more complicated by a fair degree. For example: ISD has only 8 large turrets. But now I am making a SSD model. If we made it to specs, you would need to program the location of all 350 turrets, their arc of fire, etc. The best bet might be to not use a moveable turret on a SSD, but just have a small-discolored hole from which the fire comes from. For all practical purposes, you wouldn’t place 350 fire points. You’d simply model say “35â€
