  1. I thought the purpose is obvious. Its so that you can get real close to their shield power core and get a line of site to it. This way you can take out their shields with some bombers without having to risk any of your units. Duh!
  2. i think nebulas are in the space combat map by the planet. Rather than just in the middle of nowhere.
  3. chat it tomorrow
  4. yes
  5. Is Imperial March post Yavin?
  6. But that is the whole point of defensive shields. So that you don't have to run out and face your opponent on their terms. They must come to you. And you get to make a defensive position in anticipation of that. From a gameplay standpoint, a defensive shield just makes the value of your defending units go up, changing the balance of the forces (As it should). Some say that having it inside would increase unit clumping and camping. Which is true to an extend, but also true to how combat takes places. I think having two targets within the shields, the power core and the shield generator, makes most sense. It will make the defender have to defend two points (Less unit clumping) but still have a lot of advantages.
  7. Though each missed shot would consume an incredible amount of energy and recharge time. I'm sure it would be preferable to leave guesswork out of it.
  8. Yeah, its not an issue of the ability to detect the speeds of the enemy ships. Its how fast can the super laser track? Its a relativly easy mathermatical equation than I can break out if needed but basically: From close range Id say it would be impossible for the laser to track another ship. At a long range, it would be easier. But the super laser doesn't have the motion of a stand alone turret...I think you'd have to move the whole space station at a speed that matches the radial volocity of the ship you are targeting. Combine that with an vertical component to the ships movement. Not an easy task. Though not impossible.
  9. It was said that the shield "power core" was outside of the shields "true to star wars"
  10. 299,792,458 meters per second
  11. Well there are credits, which is the star wars form of money. And as I recall there was a star wars version of monopoly as well? Clearly it should be compared to monopoly and maybe trivial pursuits also. Oh, and if the heros have an automated function, the Sims too. Which reminds me of sim city, maybe in space. Oh, I hope this games spacestation building is similar to sim city 3, only in space. "Random metero shower strikes!" That would be so cool...................
  12. This game is very much like rebellion, people need to stop getting offended by the comparrison. Both are Star Wars RTS. Both have a realtime galactic map and a combat map. Both have heros. Both have Death Stars, B-wings, Ceptors, SSD's....well they arent identical They are by no means the same game, but clearly in the exact same game class and rebellion is a game that all of us are familiar with. Why do some people feel like the two shouldn't be compared? Please name a game that makes better comparison? Honestly. I think it is perfectly acceptible to compare the two. Rebellion had good and bad things about it that heavily influenced our expectations of this game. Who here saw the announcement for this game and DIDN'T think of rebellion immediately on some level. Rebellion is not the perfect comparrison, but it is the best one.
  13. Dark room, 21 inch LCD and my scratch and sniff Chewie doll.
  14. There are differences between "cannon issues" ie. a-wings but no SSDs, and "game" issues. ie. number of fighters in a squad. They are not ussing 5 instead of the ussual 12/24 because there is confusion about how many units are in a SW squad, but rather because having that many ships on the screen is too much. However, it would make sense to use multiple, such as 4 or 6 to represent 12 rather than an odd "5". I did notice in the ISD vs MonCal that the tie squad is 7 ships and the bomber squad is 4. I hope they didn't go with an odd number becaues it makes vangaurd formations look even
  15. I think this is a rumor that has spun out of control. I'm about 98.9% sure there is no ship customization. I don't know who started this, but there is very little evidence to support it. EDIT: Whoa, this server is messed up. I made this post as a reply to 4 posts down.
  16. Thank You
  17. MmmMmm, hope that wasn't directed at me. I reserve the use of smiley faces for very rare occasions, such as extreme sarcasm.
  18. Well he said Venitor, that makes me skeptical

    Chat date and time?

Wait a sec. You are going to miss EAW chat for school? You want the time changed because your priorities are all messed up?
  20. Well some of those stations are huge. At least 11 times the size of the ISD's. So i think the engine can actually handle the SSD at the correct scaling. And without question at 1/2 normal size.
  21. Yet another great feature of Myth that was released in 99 but was lost until the last year or two
  22. Agreed. You only have about 8 ships to model/skin. I'm sure you'll have them all ready to go long before the game gets released. Thanks Jug, many of us appreciate the work you guys are doing for everybody.
  23. Well I am calm. I have watched many similar threads run on and on over the last few days but nobody was articulating the exact issue. If you mean calm down as in "don't write so much", I did my best to say a lot while keeping the post short. I think what I said was what most fans on this site feel. Though I'm not claiming to speak for everbody by anymeans. Even you said "You are right". And as far as it being obious that that is why the date was pushed back... That sounds like hindsight bias. It wasn't obvious at all to me. In fact you are the first person to say anything of the sort. Petro and LEC have given us very little information about such things. The average member on these forums has no NDA agrements signed, and is not privy to such information. In fact, we have been given very little information at all.
  24. Bravo. I'll petition LEC to cut you a paycheck for doing their work
