Fighters, how they dogfight
Delphi-PG replied to Grand AdlGen frank's topic in EAW General Discussion
I think its clear that a ingle TIE wont have a chance vs a single X-Wing or A-Wing but this will be balanced by the cost of the spacecrafts. (Weaker means cheaper and vice versa) Nailed It! Also, SD and ISD produce Ties and bombers at no cost. -
The major concern I have is that in EVERY RTS so far when you have a group of units, the front units will close in and then stop when thy get in range leaving back units woefully out of range which really sucks to no end. Hmm, haven't seen it happen in EAW.
-
I wonder how the probe droids are going to work. You control where they move.
-
the way he said souded to me like the unit/s will behave like the did in Red Alert...you click one spot on the map the go to that spot, if you click a spot on the other side of the map while your units are on route they will stop and start heading towards the spot where you just clicked, and ignore that fact that you want them to go to the spot where you clicked first...thats my impression of what delphi meant...please correct me if i'm wrong. Correct! There is a nice waypoint system in place if you would really like to micro your guys.

Delphi, you say the capital ships will naturally avoid the asteroid fields. In Star Trek Armada they also implemented this kind of system, however in much larger groups of ships, the outer ships would find themselves in the nebulas (in EAW the asteroid fields) simply because they were 'pushed' there by the grouped ships at the centre. My point being, I'm expecting this won't be the case for EAW... Oh no, the design team would freak if this was the case.

Fighters, how they dogfight
Delphi-PG replied to Grand AdlGen frank's topic in EAW General Discussion
IM ASKING HOW WILL THEY DOGFIGHT AND HOW THEY WIN, IT'S RANDOMLY, OR IT DEPENDS ON THE CRAFT!!! It depends on the units in the fight. Keep in mind the game still plays like an RTS in tactical. Don't expect long drawn out battles in a dog fight scenario. We're still tweaking balance and pacing, so things are changing everyday. Our goal is "fun" RTS game-play and tactics above all else. -
Sadly, no Grav Gens for Rebels. =(

So why would the Empire want to build a Death Star?
Delphi-PG replied to Teradyn_pff's topic in The Bar
I wouldn't expect it to be a rebellion 2 any more than I'd expect it to be Galactic Battlegrounds 2. I expect a unique, new game... and I hope that's how most people do see it. Agreed! At the end of the day our goal is simply to make a fun SW:RTS. We have game play on many different levels (galactic, space, land) combined with some fun and unique units, powers and story telling. We really hope you guys like what we are doing with the series. -
I've heard, among other things, that the Rebellion always knows where the Empire's forces are You've heard wrong. The Rebels will need to be just as sneaky if not more than the Empire. Good thing they have a few heroes for the task.

Does any one know if you can select mulitiple waypoints to force your units to follow a predetermain path? You can set single waypoints for individual units. This is a basic standard among most RTS games. The game also uses a predictive path finding algorithm that helps determine the best route to the intended destination. Also keep in mind, large capital ships will try to path around asteroids fields unless commanded to specifically go through them. They will take a serious beating if they do, but it can be handy if you need a ship at a location ASAP. There is a lot of little things like this in the game, so it hard to cover everything.

Yes, probe droids will be used by the empire on a galactic level. They need to be researched first before they can be brought into play. It is a very sneaky unit, especially in multiplayer campaign mode.
-
Yes, the Acclamator is more like a medium cap ship in EAW.
-
Unfortunately this is out of Petro hands. I do know that Lucas PR has some good stuff in the works, so it shouldn't be long.
-
The Nebulon frigates will probably be the same on each side. Nebs are specific to the Rebellion in our game.

So why would the Empire want to build a Death Star?
Delphi-PG replied to Teradyn_pff's topic in The Bar
I would compare it as a Star Wars version of Rome Total War and Risk. With an added dash of C&C for spice. =) -
so you guys at petro are taking the point marker mechanic from DOW then? It is more like Battlefront (if we had to compare) that anything else. With that said, it is a ton of fun and makes for some really unique ways to play multiplayer tactical games. always good to have new info btw....can thier be deployable AA? Of course! The Empire makes good use of this unit. It is also great against infantry. Also, Acclamators cannot land on planets in Empire at War. Sorry, just wanted to dispel that ASAP.

There will be upgrades, but they are in the more traditional sense (i.e reflective armor, increased stamina, etc).

What will immerse you most into the SW universe?
Delphi-PG replied to Nevets's topic in EAW General Discussion
Does that mean that the single player maps will not be available in skirmish mode? Or are there scripted elements that would not fit in the multiplayer modes? Duh! Should have been more specific. You’ll find the same single-player maps in our online campaign/scenario mode (1vs1 plays similar to single-player). We’ve cooked up something unique for our one off land and space tactical combat maps (these contain the unique maps mentioned above). Of course it hasn’t been announced so I can’t really go into great detail just yet. -

The ships and planet for me. Each and every planet is unique. =) Even the land and space tactical multiplayer maps were created from scratch; not repeats from the single-player exp. -
Does this mean that we don't have to build transport ships? Or are you meaning more like a Rebellion interface where you drag the units to the fleet and they get added if there is room for them on the currently built transports? More like Rebellion in the sense that you drag units into a fleet (galactic mode). So if you encounter space tactical combat, ground based units will be in transports and very vulnerable. Is it possible for the transports to be fired upon by enemy AA weapons? Yes… Meaning if the defending forces are moving on a reinforcement marker to retake it, would it be dangerous to drop troops there for fear of them being destroyed in transit? Yes… Also, reinforcement markers are contestable, if you don’t protect them they can be captured by the enemy. This mechanic is awesome in multiplayer as strategic locations can change hands very quickly. =) From the videos it seemed that the transport drop was a quick automatic thing that happened immediately without real interaction between the transport and the land map like being fired upon or firing back. When you select a squad from your reinforcement pool and drag them into a reinforcement location, the transport process is automatic. Units are dropped off. One last thing, units are very vulnerable during this phase; protect them well. =)

Just keep in mind we are committed 100% to EAW pre and post launch. After the game ships, we'll look too the community for feedback on how we can better improve EAW present and future.

Hard points on capital ships and space stations are not customizable. But, that is not to say we don't have plans for it down the road.

Fighters, how they dogfight
Delphi-PG replied to Grand AdlGen frank's topic in EAW General Discussion
I think the different resources in this game are taken care of by the planetary bonuses. That is correct, each planet provides unique bonuses and resources to the player. As for fighters, they come in squads. So when you select one, it will basically select all 5 ships. Like most games, you will be able to select all units of a type by either a hot key or double-clicking on the unit. -
Transports can be selected as a unit in space right? Yep, in space tactical mode they are an actual unit controlled by the player that must be protected. In galactic mode, you will simply move unit icons from one planet to another. How do they undeploy units in ground? When you engage in a land tactical combat situation, you will tell the units where to deploy based on reinforcement markers you've captured. Transport will then land and troops will automatically deploy. Reinforcement markers are vital too land tactical control, without them, it will be hard to gain ground and secure locations. How you place units in a transport if they are in a planet? From galactic mode, you simply grab your unit icons from land and move them into space. Our galactic UI is very intuitive and fun to use. Also, from the galactic UI you will be able to combine ships into fleets, allowing you to create unique offensive and defensive groups for each planet.
